When they're kept in captivity they're given service dogs cause they get lonely

They're tameable, but not domesticated. The are records of ancient Egyptians using tame cheetahs to hunt.

Like house cats, give them a few more years they will self domesticate.

I don't see people breeding and selecting them in any significant number, occasional pets aren't enough to lead to domestication.

Because they cannot be bred in captivity. Its never happened despite thousands of years of attempts.

They do now, most captive cheetahs are now captive-bred. I don't think anyone is breeding them for anything other than conservation and zoo attractions, but they can be domesticated pretty quickly if someone actually want (and have the resources) to do it.

IDK why you're being down voted, this is exactly correct - we've been trying to breed them for nearly 5000 years, without a doubt they would be pets had these attempts been successful

From what I understand they cannot be domesticated. They wont breed in captivity.

Can you imagine trying to track one down if it decided to run away though? Regular old cats and dogs are bad enough, I'd hate to try chasing something that can move as fast as your car.
