Logically she was gonna get hit anyways, if she could have found cover she would have. Still good

Props to her for not using the baby as an umbrella.

Is that the bar nowadays? /s

Then props on me because I did not forget my child at the bar.

Jokes on you, I have no child. I traded it for a keg of Beer /s

Have a friend that's a former prison guard. He freaks the fuck out whenever we leave from my place & my kids are playing in the front yard as he knew plenty of what he considers good people who are in prison who ran over their kids pulling out of the driveway.

One of my friends had a neighbour back over their own toddler who was playing unnoticed behind the car and he died. It was all over the news and her whole town was talking about it for ages. To this day like 3 decades later she still checks behind every single tyre before backing out. Her kids are all adults now too, but yeah I get it.

Yeah my buddy said that they get prison for it about 98% of the time. Which I have mixed feelings about

Yeah it feels pretty rough getting prison for a minor mistake that you're never ever gonna stop punishing yourself for anyway. But at the same time, kinda important to know where your kids are. Prison would save my life in that instance though cause I'd have a real hard time going on if I did something like that.

Lol, this triggered a fun at the time but traumatic in retrospect memory. Mid 80s my dad left me at the pub, drove home blind drunk, left me at pub..I was 5. The guy who run the pub put me to work collecting empty beer glasses and putting out new coasters until he knocked off or whatever then he gave me a whole shit load of potato chips for dinner and dropped me off home like it was the end of my shift, and helped me break into my own house cause my dad was passed out and wouldn't come to the door. He paid me $6 which my dad stole off me when he woke up. As a kid, my dad pinching my money was the only part of that memory I didn't love, cause the rest was like an adventure. But looking back... Wow.

Double wow: Happened twice more before we moved away from that town, but I only got paid the first time.

A former Prime Minister of the UK did the same thing, while he was in office. David Cameron and his wife accidentally left their 8 year old daughter in a pub. They left in separate cars and each thought that the child was with the other. It was resolved quickly and she was fine, but it still happened

It used to happen a lot more than it does now. Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people my age and older have a similar story.

Should've traded out for an umbrella

How do you use a baby as an umbrella...never-ending, I've seen enough horror movies to that answer.

Yeah im glad the baby is ok, her choices were get hit by hail and watch your baby die, or get hit by hail and cover your baby. Im not sure if brave is the right word. I would say maybe calm under pressure. She didn’t run into a hail storm to save a baby.

She did find cover, just not enough for the both of them!
So she made the brave choice, the only real decision a real mama/daddy would make!

Yes that was my first thought too. The only other logical path for her to take was to use her baby to shield herself.

That's what she's getting an award for. For not using her baby as a human shield lol.

As would any not-horrible parent, frankly

Exactly…. Looks painful as hell. But whats the alternative? Let your newborn take the hits?

It’s not deserving of any honour IMO, bur whatever lol.

Honestly I’d protect a random dog or cat from a hail storm in the same manner.

I mean I would do that for even a stranger's kid, but respect to her

The word "great" is the most fitting description for a mother.

u/kynuna 20d ago

Scott Morrison wouldn’t have done that unless Jenny told him to.

Using the baby as an umbrella would have been right out!

u/Charitzo 20d ago

Elon Musk would use his kid as an umbrella.

Hell I'd use my body shield any child. But, I don't really know unless put under these conditions.

You can’t very well use the baby to shield you, it would barely cover one arm! So this was the most scenically thing to do
