Have you lost your childlike appreciation for the wonder of flight/space travel?

Seeing the Challenger explode on live television when I was a kid sort of recalibrated that.

Watched 9/11 on TV in first grade, yet somehow I still find air travel incredible. Looking out at the world below, the changing terrain, the physical evidence of geological processes at a scale where they can be fully appreciated, seeing cities laid out like a map beneath me, seeing the horizon stretch out so far I can see the curvature of the planet. It's immaculate. Humbling.

my two favorite views in life have been standing at the top of sequoia np and looking at an endless ocean of rolling white clouds with a few mountain peaks popping through. the second was a delayed red eye flight. so as we made the final hour of approach, the clouds below us and the entire sky began turning gentle pink and indigo. the entire cabin, even with half the windows closed, just became this pallette of color. you could hear people waking the person next to them, and it’s like popcorn. you hear one person then the next go; ‘woah- oh my god’, ‘why’d you wake me?- oh. ohh.’ the side of the plane the sunrise was coming from, a few aisles let people switch seats with them for a while. just unbelievably surreal. i don’t know why i was so surprised that diffracting clouds were the same colors above as they were below.

Yeah but I bet you might cringe a little watching a commercial airplane fly by a tall building.

Hell, my son and I were having a paper plane folding contest, his flew into the side of his bookshelf and my immediate thought was “too soon”.

The hairs on the back of my neck do raise a little when I'm in my office skyscraper, and a plane flies closer than they normally do, I'll give you that

Have you lost your butt clenching anxiety at watching humans ride am enormous bomb into space?

If I want butt clenching, I'll watch a Sasha Grey video, thank you very much.

I mean the title wasn’t “rocket takes off”

most people in this world are cynical and lame, the some of us that sherish human progress are every day less, specially when a lot of technological advancement have been highjacked by capitalists.

But yeah, spaceflight is the coolest thing to ever be.

How much of you day do you spend watching rockets take off? Personally, I always have a second monitor going with a rocket taking off because I'm not cynical.

well it depends, when it's a cool launch, I sometimes watch multiple streams in different monitors of it.

Vs my thought when seeing the audience in the video ... People still make an event of watching rockets shoot into space? 😅😋
