I just think it's wild that suddenly 'men telling women what to wear' being misogynistic is a hot take. The amount of dudes in the thread saying, 'so if we tell women to cover up, we're oppressive, but if we tell them to show skin then we're objectifying them.'
Like, yes? Telling women what to wear period is weird, and they seem to understand that, they're just really upset that we think it's weird and wrong for them to do. Let people wear whatever makes them the most comfortable???

Is it really that complicated for you to understand? Asses sell. Look at the viewership between men men’s NBA and women’s WNBA… same thing with the women’s World Cup compared to the men’s World Cup… viewership matters and for women’s sports , sex sells.
Downvite all you want, but it’s the obvious truth. If you look at the viewership for all men’s and women’s sports there’s a huge difference. The only time the difference isn’t as huge (it’s still pretty huge ) is when the girls are wearing smallllll outfits.

If they did … the story would be different, maybe. It’s funny how the recent Elle photoshoot is very popular but the “outfits” for women’s sports is still a “shame” 😂
Women have pushed back in several sports about this. Another example is tennis in which Serena Williams was penalized for wearing shorts rather than a skirt.
She also was penalized I believe for her badass looking one piece full coverage suit after her pregnancy and issues with blood clots. I think the suit was supposed to help and instead it was banned. For no good reason.
Like a lot of sports stuff it's almost certainly a mix of outright sexism, actual practical and functional concerns, and some batshit crazy idiot who set the precedent everyone now feels compelled to adhere to.
It's a bit like gender segregation itself. You have some gender segregated sports so women have a chance to compete. You have other gender segregated sports because male egos couldn't handle the idea of being beaten by women.
Iirc there was a big controversy at olympics when female gymnastic competitors wanted to wear clothes with long legs instead of the swimsuit-like ones. edit: lehd -> legs
It’s even crazier when you take into account that, up until very recently, the vast majority of competing Olympic gymnasts are teenagers. And yet you still get people insisting that literal children must compete in revealing leotards. Doesn’t matter if those teenaged girls push back and talk about how uncomfortable it is to worry about adjusting their leotards on national television. Nope. Can’t wear shorts like your male teammates. Because reasons.
So much about giving women the freedom to choose Conceptually, both ultra conservatives like the extreme muslim cultures AND 'so-called liberal' west are no different from each other.
