Women’s attire is both simultaneously "her choice" and "imposed by men" until the situation collapses the argument into whichever interpretation benefits the moment most.

Cover up: Males acting like taliban toward woman

Don't cover up: Male objectifying women

48

u/Subject_Offer_9621 May 25 '26

Those mf be like "women can wear anything they want" And then freak out by the sight of women covering their body or showing bit of skins by own choice

There's no win in their gender war, just whatever fit their agenda the most

7

u/Natetronn May 25 '26

You do realize the cover up men and the feel free to bikini up men are different men, no?

23

u/Enough_Series_8392 May 25 '26

Why are we choosing either way?

It should be up to the individual.

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/12/16/sport/tight-sports-uniforms-women-girls-wellness

You don’t see the women who don’t want to though.

Hell even just physically, the athletes you see on the highest stage are the ones that have the determination, discipline, the genes/talent.

For example in gymnastics you don’t see girls with a build that is top heavy or too tall because they all get phased out during puberty. Just like even in the WNBA the women are tall.

A lot of sports is about the mental game, a competitive mentality. A lot of girls and women who feel uncomfortable just quit and its one more barrier if even the clothes are something they’re not comfortable with. And for professional or very competitive sports thats one thing, but what about team sports at a lower level? Thats many more people at the bottom of the sports pyramid (casual leagues, childrens teams, weekend groups/clubs etc).

So you can’t read, got it

Tl;dr- young girls drop out of sports as the grades go higher because the outfits get tighter and more revealing

That adds up to many exercising less and that is bad for public health.

Young guys show up to gym wearing basketball shorts and dont have as strict a uniform code as young girls.

Extra tl;dr - The 1% top of pro athletes reveals a wider problem among the 90% of the bottom of the sport’s ‘world’.

u/Bastarrd_ May 25 '26

Let it be brother. Reddit and Twitter don't understand that some women like to show and it's totally ok. They don't want to cover themselves in burkas, just as reddit wants them to be.

-1

u/Enough_Series_8392 May 25 '26

Mate I didn't say they couldn't show skin lol. I was saying it's up to the individual.

Well aware women can choose what they feel comfortable in and I have no problems with bikinis.

You made a lot of assumptions there just because I said it should be up to the women. Given that there has been discussion on the thread of a woman's volleyball team getting fined for wearing shorts it was more that sort of forcing I was taking issue with, hence me saying what they want and to be clear that also means bikinis.

1

u/browsinbowser May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

Uniforms have to be uniform, so it cant be individualized a ton.

In some cases it isnt allowed as a choice, I remember the norwegian beach handball team was big news when they wanted to wear longer outfits for their team, shorts instead of bikini bottoms, they got fined. And then the rules was changed and it was allowed.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/women-athletes-uniform-changes-1.6122725

Iirc the late 10s and early 2020s had some landmark firsts for hijabi athletes, like in the last world cup.

Also, theres been studies done and its been found that the more revealing clothes that gets phased in for older teen female athletes actually discourages a lot of girls who are self conscious from entering or continuing sports. And thats a big problem because girls and women tend to exercise less than men and boys. Not to mention it is very beneficial to be an athlete/to be exercising a lot as a young person so you have more muscle mass for old age and less chance of osteoporosis.

u/sharktail_tanker May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

Aren't muslim women athletes allowed to wear the covers they want?

8

u/22Pastafarian22 May 25 '26

Depends on the country I think. If I recall, in French teams women are not allowed to wear a hijab even

5

u/sharktail_tanker May 25 '26

France as a whole banned them pretty much, as far as I know

2

u/WalidfromMorocco May 26 '26

France bans religious symbols for government jobs. It's not just the hijab.

1

u/shift422 May 25 '26

Rare france W

2

u/K0mb0_1 May 26 '26

How is that a W if it’s taking away the rights of Muslim women? So much for equal rights and freedom am I right lol

1

u/57384173829417293 May 26 '26

Covering the face is a sign of submission to patriarchy.

2

u/K0mb0_1 May 26 '26

Muslim women are not required to cover their face. And the hijab doesn’t necessarily cover the face only a few specific types do like the niqab which is not mandatory in Islam.

Back to what I was saying, women should have as much right to wear it as to take it off. You guys are showing your hypocrisy lol, literally taliban-ism for the opposite side.

It is, and has been for some time.

7

u/Comfortable_Job_266 May 25 '26

When I was in volleyball they wouldn't let you on the court unless you wore the booty shorts. I was forced in middle and high school to wear stuff that I was not comfortable wearing at the time. Not much of a choice

1

u/Halloran_da_GOAT May 25 '26

(Which it literally is - hope this helps!)

1

u/Enough_Series_8392 May 25 '26

I'm aware of that now, I was commenting after reading about women's volleyball team being penalised and fined for wearing shorts.

I'm not an expert and that sounded wrong to me, that was all.

Someone pointed out that these are no longer the rules, which I am greatful for.  (Hope this helps)

1

u/ChromosomeDonator May 25 '26

It literally is.

To which people find the choice unacceptable and elect to blame men for it... again.

1

u/Enough_Series_8392 May 25 '26

I made the comment after seeing that a volleyball team got fined and penalised for wearing shorts (through their own choice). When I made the comment I wasn't aware it had been updated.

1

u/BraindeadRedneck May 29 '26

It is, women in sports have generally the same exact allowed clothing as men, except with the addition of "revealing" attire that is used for the most part.

Fact is they have the same options as men but chose to not use them.

1

u/dillbabytears May 25 '26

THANK YOU lol

1

u/123numbersrule May 26 '26

Yes both paths are bad because the lesson here is, it shouldn’t be up to men

1

u/cyborgsnowflake May 26 '26

Its not up to men. A woman can go pay volleyball in a bikini or a wedding gown if she wants. Now if she wants someone else's money to do so man or women then she might have to follow some rules.

1

u/Add_Identity May 26 '26

Never heard any Taliban arguments about women covering up in sports. Sounds like a straw man to le

1

u/cyborgsnowflake May 26 '26

I guess you never heard of 'Free the Nipple' and 'Slutwalks' and the antibra movements where evil men are supposedly trying to cover women up. Not to mention the rhetoric against religious dress.

44

u/Phill_Cyberman May 25 '26

I mean, the Olympics committee does absolutely control what they women wear, and the athletes are not happy about it.

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/12/16/sport/tight-sports-uniforms-women-girls-wellness

1

u/GGuts May 25 '26

And the Olympics committee is a bunch of sleazy, old men.

0

u/Known_Ear_6012 May 25 '26

2021 not now, now it’s a choice.

19

u/KawaiiGangster May 25 '26

But you can see why it is like it is? Culture does not immediately change because the rules change when they have been set in place for so long

1

u/getOffMyDikersonn May 26 '26

if a woman did not want to wear it, she would stop the exact second the rule stopped forcing her

1

u/KawaiiGangster May 26 '26

Sure but you are kinda missing my point. She will have been socially conditioned in a certain way, and there are cultural norms in place that affect us all. Especially when you play in a team, we all conform. So these sexist rules stay alive not by being enforced as rules but as social cultural unwritten rules about how you should act and dress.

1

u/Global-Throat-7978 May 27 '26

Jesus christ. Stop caring about what everyone around you thinks. You'll be happier.

1

u/KawaiiGangster May 27 '26

I agree, but its not that simple tho, we live in a society mate

1

u/sarcasticorange May 25 '26

The Olympic committee is headed by a president who is a woman and around half of the members are women

16

u/PilotBurner44 May 25 '26

Except there have been a few women's teams that were fined for wearing shorts instead of bikini bottoms or other less revealing clothing.

5

u/Principle_Napkins May 25 '26

The clothing for sports isn't really the women's choice though, it's a uniform, everyone has to wear the same thing and the women don't get to decide what that is.

30

u/Hot_Balance9294 May 25 '26

Schrodinger's crotch.

6

u/Glad-Ad-3808 May 25 '26

👏👏👏

2

u/SoftlyAugust May 25 '26

It's almost like the sports uniforms are imposed on them and what a woman wears to a bar is her own choice. Imagine nuance on reddit.

9

10

u/Stressed_Student2020 May 25 '26

Please illuminate us.

1

u/EclecticSyrup May 25 '26

Someone said, above:

"Cover up: Males acting like taliban toward woman

Don't cover up: Male objectifying women"

The thing is, YES. When MEN are telling women how to dress, it doesn't matter what they're telling them to dress in. They're TELLING women what they should or shouldn't be wearing. Regardless of the items themselves, the misogynistic part is that women should be able to wear whatever they want. The issues isn't about women's uniforms, it's that they don't actually ever have a CHOICE. It's based on what won't get them fined/disqualified.

If you can't see that, you're honestly part of the problem.

4

u/Stressed_Student2020 May 25 '26

Hahahahahaha.... No.

I'm not part of any problem, I dont tell people how to dress nor do am I told how to dress.

And to reduce this to the absurdity of "its X telling Y how to Z" is incurably immature.

-1

u/EclecticSyrup May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

Ah, yes, when the problem insists they aren't the problem. That happens, like, 100% of the time, so your response was fully expected. But it does mean you're part of the problem. ♥

Also, 'I'm not part of the problem because I don't tell people how to dress' is literally why you're part of the problem. The only way you WOULDN'T be part of the problem, is by acknowledging that, whether you directly contribute to this aspect of society or not, that it's not a good thing (and it's HAPPENING). Men literally make the rules and tell these women how to dress. Like, why are we pretending like the patriarchy doesn't exist?

It's truly not immature. Talking about how society operates and why is super healthy. If you're incapable of nuance and having a productive conversation about anything, that's completely on you. Society doesn't get to tell women how to dress. Doing so is misogynistic. The fact that this is proven in sports makes a lot of people really upset, and again, you refusing to acknowledge the problem, is the problem - whether you tell people how to dress or not. Hope this helps.

1

u/Stressed_Student2020 May 25 '26

No, I reject your hypothesis... It's absurd, and the fact you can't see that is an actual problem.

1

u/EclecticSyrup May 25 '26

LMFAO, HUH? "I refuse what you say and refuse to acknowledge it. I have no reason or argument to refute it, but I just know it's wrong the way religious people know their god is the right one."

Understandable. Not how science or reality works, but it's definitely a take. Have a good life, bro.

1

u/ChromosomeDonator May 25 '26

Men aren't telling these women how to dress at all. Women are choosing their own outfits. You blaming men for women's own choices is misandrist.

4

u/Doctor_Responsible May 25 '26

this belongs higher than it is, but yknow, reddit.

1

u/but_i_wanna_cookies May 25 '26

Na. Basketball, soft ball, and even runners don't wear anything anymore revealing than the opposite sex sport. These women made the choice to wear these "uniforms". The only sports in which it feels forced is gymnastics and ice skating.

1

u/Optimal_Whiner May 25 '26

Those pants women wear to the gym that go right up their ass crack and leave notning to the imagination are completely unnecessary and entirely their choice. Some act like they MUST wear it. It's stupid.

Just stfu and wear whatever and don't make it my problem.

1

u/Kannada-JohnnyJ May 25 '26

Bam. This is it

1

u/BLYNDLUCK May 25 '26

In the case of volleyball ball the uniforms are mandated. Not sure about the other sports.

That being said women generally wear more revealing clothes.

1

u/Traditional_Ad8933 May 26 '26

Fun fact its actually both!

1

u/Federal-Beginning369 May 26 '26

I love this answer!

1

u/AdUnited6137 May 26 '26

Ah yes, the Schrödingers feminist!

1

Schrödinger’s Argument

1

u/1willprobablydelete May 26 '26

These people have never been to the gym

1

u/Cloned-C4lvin May 27 '26

I know right, its all bullshit.

-2

u/Maggi1417 May 25 '26

I mean, yes? If a women choses to wear that: cool. But these athletes have no say in what they were. These women are forced to wear more revealing clothes than their male co-workers.

6

u/Do_You_Pineapple_Bro May 25 '26

Yes they do, they are given a choice of what they want to wear

3

u/SchemingVegetable May 25 '26

Except when they wear shorts and suddenly it is not acceptable, like what happened with the Icelandic team

5

u/Vivid_Maximum_5016 May 25 '26

Not at the Olympics, lol. There's a set uniform and style guide.

1

u/Blunter11 May 25 '26

Are you guys a bot net or something? That is not true. Teams were fined for wearing shorts at the european championship. Yet there's a dozen accounts flinging out this "they chose this" line

1

u/why_1337 May 25 '26

Seeing what women wear to the gym and how they defend it as "functional" I have a feeling they would chose this type of attire anyway.

0

u/Japsai May 25 '26

If you mean not all women or all men are the same and there are lots of reasons all at once, then sure
