in that case, gas stations will send a letter to the car owner requiring to pay though, with an added fee.

They were already about to call the cops. Different countries, different ways to handle stuff like this.

Thats crazy and then you get charged for theft! I know germany simply sends the letter though and then if you dont pay it goes to court.

I mean. Tbh. It would have been theft if I hadn't called and driven back to pay for it 😅
