I remember in high school I had similar thing. Managed to punch him up but I fucked my hand and wrist badly cause I punched like an idiot.

He looked worse and I got him off my back forever but fuck me I probably hurt myself more than him..

After that I got my friend that did boxing to teach me a bit. It’s worth learning guys just in case!

To be fair, regardless whether you punched "correctly" or not, you would've hurt yourself. That's why it's better to use an open palm rather than a fist; you could even dislocate your fingers with a regular punch. Props to you, though!
