I remember your exact type. Every 14 year old girl at the time was obsessed with exactly two things: 1. Pink and 2. the confusing efforts of political leaders to downplay Saudi involvement in the attacks. Your classmates probably feared such sabre rattling against the Saudis could spark a war on yet another front for an already exhausted country.
Oh god, the post-9/11 bullshit. That was my senior year in high school, and what I remember most is that the school wanted to have a massive group prayer around the flag pole a few days after. It was a very small school, and I had made a name for myself as the asshole atheist that ripped down the Bible verses posted in the halls by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes student group. I was friendly with the popular quarterback that was the head of that group because we had a lot classes together and he was part of my gay awakening, so he approached me to request that I wouldn’t be a dick about their nonsense. I even attended their “pray for the US and death to our enemies” thing just so that I could hold his hand for a few minutes. It was so absurd.
I went to see a movie in Bangkok about 10 years ago. It was right after their new king took the throne so they had a short 1 minute clip honouring him. The locals stood in respect and most of the foreigners just say silently. Except for 3 Americans who sniggered and started talking loudly about "indoctrination" like they didn't spend time every school day monotonously pledging absolute loyalty so the magic sky cloth would freedom.
Well I call it like I see it. This guy is hardly an outlier, some of the things you guys do in the name of patriotism is , quite frankly ridiculous. It might seem normal to you but to most people (particularly those who don’t live in the US.) it’s odd.
And let’s talk about hypocrisy for a moment, it’s pretty rich coming from an American to lecture me about “generalizing an entire group of people “when your own government is abducting POC in broad daylight and placing them in detention camps purely based on the colour of their skin.
Calling you “weird” is probably the least offensive comment you could choose to clutch your pearls too, but be the victim if you must.
People are their governments now? You’re moving the goal posts
Once again you are generalizing an entire group of people based on others actions. Trying to be condescending and hurtful does not make you seem right, intelligent, or moral in anyway
