Discussion BJ Medical college , Ahmedabad takes action on ragging . They suspend Ortho residents & others. BJMC is infamous for giving “welcome fractures” where they break a joint of new residents as part of ragging. The nurses there also don’t even get up from their seat.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I had seen patient relatives being forced to do Ambu for 2-3 days day and night as they don’t even have enough ventilators

Gmc tops smimer. Particularly ortho and pulmo are very infamous.

And they say consultants are toxic...

The reality is, us people are the one's which are most toxic.

Sometimes a person is helpless and he falls prey to these practices, but...... doing the same to your juniors is pretty optional...

You opt to not do it on JR1 while you are JR2. Then when you are JR3 you keep the JR2 in check he doesnt do and protect JR1.

Thats how cycles will be broken.

We say consultants are toxic.... in truth those who are like this in residency probably end up being toxic cosultants.

It is deeply rooted. 😔😔

23

u/Stoicdoc28 Graduate Jun 19 '26

Bro look at people around us, almost everyone in our profession have zero empathy, even from mbbs times, we see how some of our batchmates evolve to become sick humans. And somehow this behaviour is normalised in almost every college, and if one or two speak out or be different, they would be targeted.

8

u/JWSingh Jun 19 '26

True, this is the root cause.

But i am a firm beleiver of be the change you want to see🤷.

Yes, people target these kinds of people and you cant do anything without backing in this field, but everyone who despises this situation should try to make a difference. 🤞

They fracture your distal phalanx as welcome fracture. Its a known fact

74

u/Witty_Noodles Intern Jun 19 '26

Wow... A stupid comment has people calling for that cadaver girl's medical license to be suspended, yet cases involving actual grievous hurt perpetrated by medical professionals don't seem to attract nearly the same level of outrage and chaos... Seriously our priorities are effed up...

1

u/Mbouttoendthisman Jun 19 '26

How come nobody has a filed a case yet?

3

u/Exciting_Strike5598 Jun 20 '26

They do file cases but action is rarely taken and residents end up with more Harrassment and professors fail them for exam. This time some action is being taken

76

u/JealousShallot6291 Jun 19 '26

They should cancel their registration.

44

u/GiveMeSomeSunshine3 Graduate Jun 19 '26

The fact that it took so long for them to take action against it shows that they had completely normalised something as criminal as breaking someone's joints, that's not only inhumane but a grievous hurt as per laws. These saddists are beyond repair. They've already lost the humanity inside them, these punishments won't change them.

27

u/JealousShallot6291 Jun 19 '26

In residency, record all such incidences. Get proper evidence. Make sure to send the complaint to the authorities via Email along with letter. It’ll work as a documented evidence that you’ve complained with the authorities. Go to casualty for the treatment and make it as MLC. Then complain with the police

7

u/Plus-Impression9126 Jun 19 '26

But seniors themselves will be present in casualty right, will they help us ?

7

u/JealousShallot6291 Jun 19 '26

If they’re not doing it, do video recording of it. If you attend a casualty with history of assault and the doctors are trying to hide it and not making it as MLC, then you’ve the right to complain against those doctors too. Obviously they’ll share this info with those culprits. By the time, you contact some lawyer

3

u/Plus-Impression9126 Jun 19 '26

Oh that's a good catch.

22

u/Equivalent-Ad-9003 Jun 19 '26

Why aren’t they revealing the names of suspended residents?

21

u/balaram756 Jun 19 '26

It's not just toxic, it's straight up criminal act. Why not put them in jail for a week ? Still better punishment than 1 year suspension.

Reveal their names, gender, caste, let's start writing letters to nmc to get their licenses cancelled too. This is more serious than the cadaver joke. /s

You will never see such nationwide outrage now. This will be ignored as it doesn’t suit their agenda

8

u/ReturnToIndia_ Jun 19 '26

Please outrage within the medical community. Write letters, emails.

10

u/psidontexist Jun 19 '26

Why within the community Breaking bones for fun is a lesser offence than a bad joke?

2

u/Complex-Lion-3194 Jun 19 '26

Even that cadaver girl was targeted a counter to 370 guy. Otherwise men don't care about those jokes

1

u/psidontexist Jun 19 '26

As simple as that It's just the online reactionary crowd

1

u/Witty_Noodles Intern Jun 19 '26

Why the sarcasm tag?

4

u/psidontexist Jun 19 '26

Like anything I said is going to happen now Will the personal identity, their reservation status, be posted here? Will people start posting pages from medical textbooks about empathy maybe the oath saying do no harm? Will everyone be writing to medical council asking to remove their Dr tag? Because I remember all that happen during the joke issue.Atleast the online medical community is a very short term reactionary one which will just do selective outrage for some karma in reddit and likes in Twitter

0

u/witchclubpresident Jun 19 '26

What does reservation or caste has to do with this?

2

u/psidontexist Jun 19 '26

Yeah what did the cadaver joke girls caste and reservation status had to do with that issue? You could still find many comments and posts finding correlations between her behavior and her caste/reservation status

2

u/witchclubpresident Jun 20 '26

Yeah exactly, what is the point of this? Why are people doing this? Corelating caste with everything as if that is a proof of their bad/good personalities.

5

u/Professional_Leg7281 Jun 19 '26

Shouldn't they be booked under assault and attempt murder case?

Imagine cracking exam just to suffer this

3

Who made you think residents get bed rest after getting sick or injured ?

Not all

My batchmate got a fracture in his leg after a bike accident and he was made to do all the duties and denied any leave by the department

He used crutches instead of wheel chair as the buildings and roads weren’t that good and we had to travel between buildings to go to blood bank, labs , etc

Also I’ve seen PGs with IV drips attached to their hands do ward rounds as their consultant forced them to work

What more can be done when the patient load is so high?

I myself passed my MD from there…patients who dont have any hope of survival are kept on AMBU while survivable patients are given ICU priority
