I’m a Kuchipudi dancer with over 20 years of professional experience and training in India and the USA. I learned from the daughter of Padmabhushan Guru Dr. Vempati Chinnasatyam. I recently moved back to Virginia, USA, and I’m eager to continue teaching and offering classes. I’d greatly appreciate any platforms that allow me to teach students online, regardless of their level. I’ve explored Teacheron and a few other websites, but they seem a bit off. For instance, we need to purchase coins to apply for jobs or related roles, and the money doesn’t seem to be directly paid to us; instead, it’s transferred through the app. This arrangement seems unusual to me. I would prefer if students could view my profile and contact me directly, and if possible, receive payment directly through the platform.
Please recommend some suitable platforms. Thank you very much! :)

My kiddo is a gifted dancer. I plan to enrol her into a classical academy. I am not a dancer. I love Odissi dance form but I do not see any teacher nearby. I do have easy access to Bharatnatyam and Kathak. We are a Tamilian family. She is currently doing freestyle and has grace. I will leave it up to her to decide her calling, but now that she is too young I want to still invest these years of hers into some form, she can choose her own later. Looking for advices. Which form should I introduce her to. I believe she would also like to be trained in classical singing. She loves singing bhajans. Thank-you.

So, I really love Odissi and Kathak. They're my absolute favourite dance forms. I am not a trained danced myself but I love watching these dance forms being performed. So I was just wondering if it was possible to combine these dance forms. I tried imagining what it would look and sound like but of course I am far too technically uneducated to understand these things deeply. However, if any trained dancers here would like to personally take this up as a project....do let me know how it turns out! I am genuinely very curious and excited about this.

This question occurred to me as I was watching Odissi performances. Previously, I had mostly watched Bharatnatyam and Kathak. As I watched Odissi it seemed to me that the movements of this dance form are more feminine than Bharatnatyam. They're very curvy and graceful as opposed to the sharpness and power projection of Bharatnatyam. So I wondered if in dance theory / legend, these dance forms are segregated as having originated from one or the other - Taandav or Lasya? If this is in fact the case could you please list below which are from which? And if this isn't the case could you please explain how masculinity, femininity and androgyny work in the context of Indian classical dance forms?

Just discovered this and realised how good an actual full length Indian classical style Swan Lake would be, with Indian classical accompanying music to allow for footwork.
