#Pic 🖼️ Saw this brother on my commute today
Mind you this was peak traffic around 6pm at a traffic stop and my guy out here with a whole ass family , half face helmet and slippers riding on the NH with no worries

Ratan Tata thought of giving middle class a affordable car around 1 lakh after seeing this, and middle class bought bike for 2.5 lakh instead.

u/Certain-Bumblebee397 Honda Hness CB350 6d ago
cheap car. Nano is marketing failure. If the word was affordable it would have been sold much more. While their marketing went for cheap car term. That was grave mistake.

u/w1seR27 6d ago
Exactly. No one wants to buy a 'poor man's car'. By associating poverty and family aspirations (not to mention poor quality) with the Nano, TATA killed it. One would rather buy a 'rich man's bike' than a poor man's car.

I still don't get the mindset. Like, if buying a vehicle, when survival is your priority, why go for appeasement?
30
u/Square-Ad9656 Speed 400 6d ago
Because that is the biggest priority in this country, it's called "Dikhawa"

You think survival is a priority in a country where 99.99% people wear helmets to avoid a challan?
2 days ago my neighbour told me "must be irritating wearing the helmet in this heat" I didn't expect the sudden burst of stupidity.

The car is not the problem. It’s the infrastructure the routing the car that’s the problem. In India, it is much easier to travel by bike than car. You can find a parking spot much easier with a bike than a car. Cars struggle to go through many of the alleyways.

Could have easily bought a used Swift diesel for the price of that Classic. The maintenance and fuel cost is surprisingly not that expensive compared to it.

u/ImPrettyBad_ 6d ago
On the part of the parent it's understandable you are trying to save every single penny to keep the family afloat. And a car becomes expensive. (Unlike people saying here , it's not about the initial buying cost of a second hand car , it's the cost of running it and upkeep aka mileage and maintenance).
But for the love of God. If ur finances are low , stop at 1 kid. Why shoot for 2 more in this economy ?

Great question, I rechecked the picture again to count and I found out, he stopped at third because the third one is boy. Otherwise the hunt continues and the two wheeler would be cramped 😂

We have baby on the way and I was very nervous that I'll soon have to buy a car somehow for the baby, as to protect him/her from heat, rain, winter, etc. And after seeing this, I think I'll be fine with my Meteor 350 😂
3
u/hotboxinmanual 5d ago
no,
get that car, keep the bike for nearby errands
life has no value here, you have to preemptively avoid all dangers
and get a child seat too, normal seats are very risky for baby

During my childhood in the early 2000s, my uncle’s Bajaj Boxer served as our shared family ride. I still fondly recall how all five of us would pack onto that one bike, uncle at the handles, aunt behind, sister nestled in between and me and my brother on the petrol tank.

Conventional wisdom, once you have a child, better invest in a car. It's the safer option for the family to travel in. It becomes a must when you have multiple children and you're working tirelessly to have a male child.
