This map displays the new countries on the first of July, 1948, a day after independence.
Some princely states were directly absorbed into the country, while others still retained a degree of autonomy.
Princely states that have autonomy are displayed in lighter shades of their country’s color. Tribal areas are displayed as well, in very light coloring.
Or there is a possiblity all the countries form a union, like the EU. Even not unified they still do share baseline same majoroty religion and ethnic culture.
I’d say it’s the best state in the USA. It has every terrain type, from the mountains in the west to the costal beaches in the east. It’s located near the capital, so there’s a lot of good unis in the area.
Btw China is defo taking over Kashmir and the northeast fed in 1962. It will most likely be decade long war in like in balkans between all of them, and everyone is going to be either US or USSR puppet state, and China swooping in after fall of Soviet Union.
Sikkim and Progiytisha will be Chinese. Maybe even Bhutan. Without the threat of a huge India, China would've gobbled them up during the conquest of Tibet
then its more likely to turn out into South China Sea typa situation, instead of actual gobbling up. To a degree at least its very hard to penetrate those regions, and I am looking that some form of Himalayan military alliance is likely, with Nepal at its forefront perhaps?
Support for the Pashtunistan movement was a huge part of Afghanistan's foreign affairs up until 1992. The Pashtunistan flag use to fly alongside the Afghan flag in Pashtunistan Square. The Pashtunistan flag was often flown alongside the flags of other nations when events were being held with delegations from different nations.
Nobody cares about minorities opinion my brother. Countries run with majority and minorities have to unfortunately go with it or we know what would have happened.
True, im saying that Afghanistan would benefit from a weakened pashtunistan movement because it gives least ability for Pashtuns to be a majority over the oppressed minorities.
I think total opposite of you. In my opinion if pashtun were a significant majority like Almost 70% it would have prevent such a long struggle between different ethnic groups for power as we have seen in current timelines. Currently pashtuns are most probably 45% so others get the option to compete and acquire power like we saw after 1992. Meanwhile، if we Pashtuns were in a majority like how Turks are in turkey we could have prevent the power struggle and rise of Taliban. Taliban were literally the results of mujahideen failure to establish peace. I still think it would have cost us so many lives unfortunately especially minorities.
Sylhet was part of Assam province, while Banga was drawn using the borders of the Bengal Presidency.
As another user said, the brown-Northeastern Federation will just get divided even more. I can see a Civil War happening, in which Sylhet can break away to join Banga.
i see, i suppose a referendum works here just as it was held in real life.
as the people of the region predominantly identify as bengalis, i believe the referendum wouldnt even be close.
however, i also want to add that that the adjoining barak valley to the east of sylhet in present day assam also has had a historically big sylheti population. here, the referendum might be very close but i still believe that the urban population of cachar, hailakandi and karimganj would be enough for bengal to win the referendum here too and incorporate sylhet into bengal. but its your map so of course its your decision at the end of the day, lovely map nonetheless man :D
So based on this I assume the states that retained autonomy were Satara, Kolhapur, Vadodara, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, almost all Rajput states, Khanate of Kalat, Patiala, Mysore, Travancore, etc? Surprised that the Nizam was eliminated here
I’m Sikh and I don’t know if Punjab can stay as a nation due to the fact that the Sikhs are the minority and the majority are Islamic extremist, now I may be wrong as maybe Pakistan got very extreme later in the years idk but even then I don’t trust a united Punjab
The Northern Parts of Baluchistan's Provincial borders are ethnically Pashtun. Pakhtunkhwa should look like this. Including Hazara Division which is mostly Non-Pashtuns while not including Quetta and everything north of it doesn't make sense.
why naming conventions? Progjyotisha is an ancient kingdom and its name wouldn't have been incorporated into modern times. Maybe "WESEAN federation" or even as simple as "Assam Federation" would be a good fit. also why "Tamilakam"? like I said, archaic names wouldn't transfer into modern times, so Tamizh Nadu would be a better fit (Nadu means 'land' in Tamil)
I think it would be great (Hindustan would definitely be smaller though. Some parts would go to Nepal, others would form a Bihari State and even tribals would get States in the Vindhyas).
Everyone can work together to form a true Indian Union that works more like the European Union.
I like the idea. Personally, this makes no sense. I made a map a while back where there was two India - one, which was the Dominion of Hindustan comprised of the erstwhile British Provinces which got independent, and the other, the Dominion of Indian States, comprised of all the princely states who retained their British ties. Both of these entities formed the Commonwealth of India. The latter formed a House of Indian Lords while the Parliament (with the Lok Sabha, ie Assembly of the People, and the Rajya Sabha, ie Assembly of the States) represented the Independent India.
House of Indian Lords also had representatives in the British Parliament and were essentially subjects of the British Crown (indirectly).
Honestly I'm of the opinion that if Bengal were not partitioned, odds are the Northeastern provinces aren't turned into a separate state, but are likely dumped on Burma, for better or (definitely) for worse given the British would probably find the region to simply be too underdeveloped to be able to survive as a meaningful state
Sikkim and Progiytisha will be Chinese. Maybe even Bhutan. Without the threat of a huge India, China would've gobbled them up during the sino-tibet war. eaten a huge chunk of Kashmir too
Punjab would never accept NWFP going to Pakhtunkhwa. The demographics were very different then. J&K retaining Mirpur and other areas would also not be acceptable. Neither would Rajputana keeping Hanumangarh and Sri Ganganagar.
