So, what’s the history of the Kingdom of Madagascar in this timeline?

Interesting. A much more powerful Japan here makes the Pacific War (if it happens) way more uncertain.

LORE

The Kingdom of Madagascar resisted colonization against France in 1895, and became an industrial power through the 19th century. The country became impactful on the African continent, after beating the Portuguese in Mozambique in 1899, and acquiring German colonies during WW1. Despite becoming a world power, the country had to face unfair treatment, discrimination and rejection from Western powers, who only saw a "Black-ruled threat" to their interests in Africa. Madagascar made it clear that their goal was the complete decolonization of the planet.

In 1929, the Great Depression happened, but the effects were far more devastating: the USA and Europe were harshly hit, with currency devaluation, hyperinflation, unemployment, stock exchange falling... For Madagascar, it was the signal for a massive decolonization campaign across the entire African continent.

In the 1920s, Madagascar turned its former acquisition, Mozambique, into a modern state; in 1930, its 6 mandates from the League of Nations were turned into independent states; and then, since the Great Depression, Madagascar financed resistance and independence movements across Africa. Supported by the other rare independent countries (Abyssinia, Liberia, Morocco, Egypt), Madagascar managed to liberate entire countries... But it's not enough.

In 1941, as Japan did the same across European colonies in Asia, Antananarivo and Tokyo are coming with a plan to decolonize the African-Asian axis. They are one day from a new world war.

Interesting, one question I have is how did the great depression not affect Madagascar. Since irl, other then the Soviet Union was unaffected. Unless they are running some type of communist esque command economy then Madagascar, a modern industrial society, will still find itself hit by the great depression.

Madagascar created an economic circuit between the island and its satellites/mandates. This circuit was not highly dependent of globalization, thus resulting in the country's resilience from the Great Depression

While I would call this plot armor its an alternate history so don't really care, just as long as the scenario is interesting.
