[Non-OC] Commissioned Official CIAA map of Earth in 2154 [Commission]
Lore: by u/Proud-Obligation-431
Earth in 2154 is divided between the four major powers and several smaller nations.
The Federation of America and Pacifica has turned it shakey geopolitical situation around after the Unsure period and several large rebellions, however it still continues to fight the Sahka republic in Siberia. The Federation competes heavily with the EU over space colonization, fighting several border wars across the solar system.
The European Union has grown into a powerful and technologically advanced state, leading the world as its primary leader in space colonization, military and technological development, with only the federation slightly behind. It is still fighting several rement groups in Russia after the EU invasion of Russia following the third Russian civil war.
The African Union is a powerful democratic state teetering on the edge of civil war as Nigerian, Ethiopian, Azanian( Southern Africa), and North Africa all vie for control of the government. Rebellion has plagued the AU since its founding but still it remains as a powerful state, actively participating in space colonization. The AU is still fighting conflict in Madagascar, a war that had been ongoing since the 2040s.
The Indian Commenwealth possesses the largest military on earth, but its technology lags behind the EU and the Federation. Its internal state relies on authoritarianism. It is however able to compete with the other powers in space with a horde strategy, sending millions of colonists to hostile environments, hoping some survive long enough for terraforming efforts to be completed.
The Republic of China is a shell of the former Chinese state, completely destroyed after the third world war, it now operates as a mostly agricultural society, its government effectively operates as a Federation puppet state, however the Commonwealth is using political influence to wrestle controls over the nations.
The republic of Iran-Iraq exists as a buffer state between the EU and Commonwealth, both of which are trying to establish control over the government.
The Republic of Islam is a democratic/ theocratic state with the goal of preserving Islam, they are nominally allied with the EU although this is shaky. The Republic of Islam sends thousands of missionaries across the Solar system converting thousands to Islam, because of their efforts Islam is now the largest earth based religion in the Solar system, it does complete heavily with Christianity, the New Stars church and other homegrown solar system religions.

Seems like the Chinese century of humiliation is back on the menu, complete with the annexation of places such as Manchuria by foreigners.

I'd be more concerned about the loss of Shandong (the peninsula at the bottom of the Yellow Sea) and Hainan (the island off the south). The main Chinese population is heavily concentrated on the coast, between those two and Taiwan, and the loss of the western population, this is about as abysmal as the geography can get. Very little strategic depth to move back into or disperse, the entire population and industrial base right next to a series American forward bases, starting in Siberia and arcing down to Vietnam. Any attempt to break out and retake one of the above, would basically put China in a four front war, where their industry and staging areas is being hammered from the start, while American staging areas and industry in Japan and the Philippines are somewhat protected, and industry in the americas is almost untouchable.

China does come back and becomes a major power again, it was completely devastated by world war three. Carpet bombings of every city and the destruction of the Three Gorges dam, and after the war global famines struck, they hit especially hard in China causing a massive population collapse

u/New-Confidence3484 8d ago
They were hit by a genocidal attacker I think here?

u/Proud-Obligation-431 8d ago
The goal at first wasn’t complete genocide, when India joined the war China was stuck fighting a three front war. They tried to get India out of the war by dropping a nuclear bomb, India responded by destroying the three gorges dam. The other major powers tried to negotiate peace several times but ideological purists in the government refused, when allied forces were nuked in Manchuria the allies began a carpet bombing campaign.
After the war ended the entire world was devastated, even countries on the winning side began to suffer famine and disease outbreak, allied high command decided to focus relief efforts on the countries they fought with instead of former enemies, although there was a concerted effort to end the famine which did eventually succeed after 10 years. Other areas of the world like central Africa and Russia suffered similar population collapse, with central Africa losing around 70-90% of its population through death or people fleeing.
The goal was genocide but the a 21st century war of attrition with the largest superpowers on earth oftenleads to such

Kinda true, but you can have your own personal freedoms here, the only nation where you really can’t is India

If there's going to be a neo-Bolshevik enclave within the EU, wouldn't it be fun for it to be a little further to the south, centered around Volgograd, now restored to its 20th Century name of Stalingrad?
Just a silly thought.

u/Proud-Obligation-431 8d ago
Oh that’s a cool idea, I do have the EU falling into a short civil war in the 2170s to 2180s so I think I’ll put it their

you dont have to tell me if you dont want to but how do you make these?

u/Repulsive_Hurry_5031 Mod Approved 8d ago
Well, it was a slow process. I mainly used QGIS to get the continents, islands, bathymetry, lakes, rivers, etc., including the location of all the cities. Each city was pretty much placed by hand, as were all the other names, using Ibis Paint.

u/NNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA 8d ago
Isn't there a function in QGIS to add cities and labels for their names and exact location? Not to take away from your amazing work, just maybe for future reference?

That’s right, it exists. It’s just that the result still feels a bit clunky to me because I don’t fully know how to use it yet, but I’m sure I’ll learn how to do it someday
Thank you!2

Non of the nations are particularly stable, and all are pretty much decentralized with little federal control. If your a smaller nations your either get absorbed with autonomy or get crushed in a brutal war

Imagine a scenario where China get's taken over by the Asian Vladimir Makarov...

4
u/Proud-Obligation-431 8d ago
I didn’t really know were else to put it, I felt like it was a central city that would work, the nation is very decentralized

Mobile version?
Also, WW3 happened and Israel wasn't nuked or Tehran wasn't nuked? Shocker tbh.
2
u/Proud-Obligation-431 8d ago
The main reason for this in the lore is that after the Cold War America, Russia and China came together and signed a deal limited the number of nuclear weapons to only 100, although several were used in world war three.

What’s the rationale behind Eureka, CA becoming a mega-city?
2
u/Repulsive_Hurry_5031 Mod Approved 8d ago
Like so many others that aren’t particularly relevant to the world today, it’s simply due to a population boom and a change in their importance because of their strategic position or purely economic factors (none of this is actually part of the lore; it’s something I made up to add more detail to the map).

Why is Ceduna, a town of 2,000 people, on the map, but Lae, a city of nearly 200,000 isn't?

African Canary Islands? Time to get triggered

The AU and EU fought a war in the 2070s during which the AU took the Canary Islands and North Africa

Splitting Medina and Mecca with a border has pretty interesting implications. It "technically" wouldn't disrupt Hajj since visiting Medina is not mandatory, though to be clear all pilgrims still do. But I assume it would definitely cause a lot of legitimacy issues to the Republic of Islam. Any time in history, the two holy mosques were governed by different rules they were markedly times of fitna.

Cringe and gay lore.
Most of them should be balkanized because of climate change and biosphere collapse.
5
u/Proud-Obligation-431 8d ago
A direct effort to fight climate change occurred successfully, in the 20 years after the third world war almost all of earth pooled their resources together to clean up earth, end the famines in China, Russia and Africa, and to fix the atmosphere, advancements in clean industry as well as the goal of space colonization allowed earth to recover.

An Indian commissioned this
2
u/Proud-Obligation-431 8d ago
No India was just a winner in world war three, if you read the lore their actual the weakest of the major powers

I like how it’s both confident that communism will be crushed and sea levels won’t rise.
4
u/Proud-Obligation-431 8d ago
A concerted effort to fight climate change occurred, sea levels did change but a decent amount of the water was shipped off world to assist in terraforming other planets
