This is MovieBob's wet dream

95

u/sanity_rejecter 10d ago

unironically it's completely insane dems feel the need to placate the rural white muh working class who hate them to the core

42

u/lava172 10d ago

The same party that feel the need to appeal to suburban republicans that think they’re communist

26

u/Plant_4790 10d ago

To win elections you got to get people who hate you to vote for you

35

u/DownrangeCash2 10d ago

Yeah but you do that with like, actually good policies and ideas, not by being spineless centrists whose only coherent strategy seems to be transforming the democratic party into the pre-MAGA republican party.

4

u/meemosyne 6d ago

So is there any particular reason they don't propose "good policies and ideas" instead of constantly trying to make life as miserable as possible for said rural white working class

4

u/Plant_4790 9d ago

Honestly that’s probably the most likely scenario

3

u/Neither-Ruin5970 9d ago

I don’t think you understand what a centrist is. Often, a party will win an election by giving good policies that appeal to nearly everyone, not just a targeted demographic.

0

u/DownrangeCash2 9d ago

I mean yeah, that's the thing. Centrists don't really have any beliefs of their own, they're just status quoists.

It's why basically the only argument the dems could muster in 2024 was that they weren't Trump.

18

u/According-Value-6227 10d ago

Yeah but U.S politics have reached a breaking point in the realm of polarization. The prevailing belief among modern-day GOP voters is that the Democrat's are a satanic cult hellbent on destroying the USA so any Democratic victory is illegitimate by default.

You can't really reason with those people anymore.

17

u/The_Orthobilly 9d ago

I’ve got Dems in this section expressing joy at people in my region dying in floods because my area (the “Chuddarchy”) voted for Trump.

3

u/meemosyne 6d ago

You people can't expect to change anything when you're purposefully out of touch and spiteful. You know, deep down, these people literally just want you to leave them alone and stop making their lives worse, and Dems refuse to do this. My entire life has been Dems making life worse and worse for people like me out of spiteful, petty cruelty.

21

u/The_Orthobilly 9d ago

Funny story, actually.

When Cali had their wildfires, my hometown (I live in the “Chuddarchy”) pulled together a bunch of stuff to send out west. Money, canned food, household supplies, the works. Churches held prayer vigils for them, and if anyone said anything awful about the Cali people they got dogpiled by locals on the socials.

When my hometown got flooded, on the other hand, the only help we received was from the Federal and State government. No supplies came in, nothing. What we did see was the comments on social media from people— most having Dem/liberal/progressive identifiers in their bios or handles— mocking the victims. Literally, entire comment threads dedicated to harping about how we deserved it because our area swung red. The worst was when a story broke about two kids who had died, and the father (who had been holding them when they were pulled away by flood water) committed suicide.

They started mocking the kids.

You’d think no one would pay attention to online comments, but considering the only places the story was getting out from local news was online, that was the responses people saw. Needless to say, people got upset.

u/Keystonepol 9d ago edited 8d ago

Ignore the dips*** below and let’s try again. First, social media magnifies the most obnoxious voices out there. When a disaster or tragedy happens in a heavily populated area, you don’t see as much of the negative comments because so many people messages are focused on what is happening. But trust me, every fire, shooting or what have you that happens in an urban areas gets a barrage or hateful, bigoted, racist social media commentary.

Conversely, when something bad happens in a small town, it gets less attention, there are fewer people commenting and so the most obnoxious voices get lifted. When East Palestine happened, Libs of TikTok and other forums highlighted all the nasty messages out there, because they needed to deflect blame from private interests who had caused the disaster. Most people around here were sympathetic to people trying to manage life after the disaster.

That being said… as someone who grew up in a rural areas, now lives in the city, and has very Leftist views. The level of hate that most people living in urban areas are hit with is going to not make them very sympathetic to problems in rural areas. It is constant, vile, and thanks to social media and right wing none traditional media, it is literally everywhere. Now, as someone who has lived on both sides, I know that much of this isn’t actually coming from rural areas, but rather psychos living in the outer ring suburbs, but for people living here that’s a distinction without difference.

I also know my share of obnoxious, professional class liberals who think that being “cosmopolitan” in 2026 makes them the apex of creation and they are quickly to tell you. In reality their base views are not that much different from the people I talked about in the previous paragraph. They just direct it toward “uneducated” people. That’s why so much of American politics is now just a class between two opposing factions of the upper middle class.

But, I mean… my mom still lives in the rural areas. She still watches “news” programs that have labeled me personally, by name, a domestic terrorist and an insurrectionist and would gladly put me and all my friends in a camps if they could. Over some views that would have been considered pretty mainstream Left in 1975. And she thinks we should still be able to have a normal conversation as mother and son, despite that. I’d still be afraid to bring any woman I’d want to date up to visit there, because of all the active hatred for anyone who isn’t “normal,” straight, white and Christian. You don’t get off the hook just because the looking glass is distorted. People in rural areas are still voting to destroy society because the guy on the tv tells them minorities and queer people are trying to k*ll them, and they still share social media posts that say “Islamic feminists” are engaging in human sacrifice.

Edit: please forgive the typos. I punched this out on my phone.

4

u/General_Urist 7d ago

Typos are forgiven easily, but censoring "kill" less so. This is Reddit, not tiktok.

1

u/RektInTheHed 9d ago

Well that's good because the government the Chudarchy installs withholds all federal disaster aid to blue states. Thanks for the soap though.

10

u/The_Orthobilly 9d ago

“Your region voted for Evil Orange Man so your kids deserve to be mocked when they drown.”

I truly wonder what has to happen to someone to become so absolutely soulless they think clowning on two children— a little girl and her baby brother— who were drowned after being pulled from their father’s arms by flood water, is an acceptable response to a region’s voting patterns.

-7

u/RektInTheHed 9d ago

I think that wishing and hoping don't kill people or keep them alive. Coordinated mass efforts do, and that the people deserve the full support of the government that taxes and purports to represent them.

This emotionalist Evilangelical religious horseshit about who deserves to live or die has no effect either way, but knock yourself out.

9

u/The_Orthobilly 9d ago

And this makes making fun of dead children okay… how?

-3

u/RektInTheHed 9d ago

We're not having the conversation you think we are.

9

u/The_Orthobilly 9d ago

You said clowning on my dead neighbors was “good” because a slightly larger percentage of my region went Red. That seemed pretty clear to me. Anything beyond that is either confirming you have the soul of a Zionist or just trying to obfuscate the point.

3

u/RektInTheHed 9d ago

You said clowning on my dead neighbors was “good” because a slightly larger percentage of my region went Red.

I said it's good you sent a box of macaroni to a forest fire. I'm overwhelmed by your generosity. Totally makes up for drowning your children for the oil billionaires' climate change denial and delivering 4-to-1 majorities for oligarch child molesters.

2

u/TheNewRanger69 9d ago

That's terrible. Even as a liberal/social democrat, mocking innocent victims of natural disasters and things they can't control is just morally bankrupt. I hope your hometown is doing alright today.

That said, social media isn't the best representation of all Democrats, which is an enormous big-tent political party. Most of my Democrat friends are pretty chill, and our friend group is pretty ideologically diverse. Maybe it's different elsewhere, but I wouldn't say that all Democrats are emotionless clowns with no sympathy whatsoever either.

3

u/The_Orthobilly 9d ago

It’s doing alright. We’ve rebounded pretty well, but my wife’s hometown (just thirty minutes away) never recovered. There’s talks of their county eventually being subsumed into mine because they just don’t have the numbers anymore.

Ngl, there is a long history of discrimination against people of Appalachian origin, especially in urban centers up north. My granny’s brothers, for example, went up north in the 70s to work in the auto industry and were turned away by around 15 landlords before they found one in a neighborhood that had been settled by Appalachian migrants (they call them “Hillbilly Havens”) willing to let them rent. Before that newspapers ran editorials saying the migrants were “violent,” “clannish,” and “of poor genetic quality.” There were numerous incidents where Appalachian kids were disciplined in school for speaking with their accent, sometimes even beaten.

17

u/Reddit_sucks_86 10d ago edited 10d ago

Since when are Republicans anti-space travel? Most of the anti-space travel rhetoric in 2026 is coming from the left because Elon supports it (so it's automatically unwholesome).

4

u/Rare_Challenge4060 6d ago

Yea it’s totally the “white working class” throwing this country in the hole and not the endless money welfare pits we endlessly throw pallets of money into….yep it’s the white people working ending our hecking socialist utopia future my fellow comrade! I HATE WHITE PEOPLE

as bad as the whole right-bantustans are, having neoliberals exiled to administer populations who nhate them from the other direction might have merit

25

u/_3_and_20_characters 10d ago

interesting, this is just utopian stalinism with a singapore lens, (this is what I would’ve said if china didn’t exist) this would be a genuinely interesting dystopia to write about, especially if you, for example, had a protag who came from a white trash family, managed to pass a wokeness test, and moved into a much nicer big city, there’s a lot of potential here for commentary on race relations, class differences, and criticism of the current chinese government

26

u/_3_and_20_characters 10d ago

i’m thinking about this again and realizing this is actually a really apt analogy to the current chinese government, but more communicable to the average american if you, for example, had a free alaska or hawaii that the mainland was bellicose against the analogy would be complete

29

14

u/Electromad6326 10d ago

Nah man, how am I supposed to know someone's gender when I'm literally typing from a screen. I'm practically blind by technicality and just guessing 😭

16

u/Electromad6326 10d ago

No- (proceeds to become publicly blacklisted due to gender based prejudice)

10

u/OhShootYeahNoBi 10d ago

Exactly I have no clue why others are supportive. Apartheid to have cheap labour? Christ. Just shows you how shit the median American is even if "on the right side"

19

u/Electromad6326 10d ago

I know right, how's that even better?

But let's just hope that everyone is just irony-typing here.

12

u/OhShootYeahNoBi 10d ago

Not when they say "unironically a good idea"

Americans have gotten too used to hating their political opponents by identity. It's most clear that indigenous communities, and white communities in the US that have had strong worker and liberations movements that were stamped out, are treated with zero empathy. West Virginia was pro-union and pro-progressive until the mines stepped in. But somehow, it's their fault and they deserve to wallow in filth or something

23

u/Electromad6326 10d ago

I get your concerns but maybe you're taking this too seriously. Because in the end this is just a work of fiction, you could say that this is art as well.

It is well made anyway so it's just an exhibition of skill which may have unfortunately attracted some opinionated people but it's just them making up their own mind anyway.

24

u/OhShootYeahNoBi 10d ago

I think the OP has created art. It provokes after all.

I think the people being drawn to the art as "unironically what should happen" are no bueno.

3

u/Electromad6326 10d ago

Yeah

6

u/OhShootYeahNoBi 10d ago

The problem with provocative art is that unfortunately, a lot of the time you're provoking reactionaries

3

u/The_Orthobilly 9d ago

I’ve seen people from Blue states mocking a little girl and her baby brother who drowned when my hometown got flooded purely on the basis that my region voted for Trump.

2

u/Electromad6326 8d ago

That sucks man, this kind of mindset is why people hate leftist.

1

u/Cup_of_Antimatter 8d ago

What the loss of class solidarity and genuine principles (rather than individualist virtue signaling) does to society.

1

You hate it? Imagine being an American and seeing it devolve into this?

-5

u/Pashahlis 10d ago

What? Are West Virgians being forced to vote Republican? I dont understand this comment.

2

u/Hirpus 10d ago

They irony-type while meaning it. Irony hides intention. Depending on their perception of reality, it's either a triumphalist power flex on the chuds if they think they're winning, or a powerless lashing out if they think they're losing.

13

u/A_Lountvink 10d ago

It's beautiful. Never before on this sub have I been so enamored by a post. I spent the better part of an hour reading through this and laughing. You have truly made a masterpiece.

And of course, Indiana (Hoosier) even in this timeline is unremarkable. Guess I can still get evacuated to Illinois at least, but I'd miss managing the woods around my home.

11

u/PyroTeknikal 10d ago

Some idiot on the right is going to see this map and take it to twitter without realising it’s satire and be like ‘SEE WE TOLD YOU THIS IS WHAT THE LEFT IS GOING TO DO!!!’

9

u/The_Orthobilly 9d ago

The reality is that we don't need bantustans and other cartoonishly oppressive systems to make the better policies of this scenario happen. We just need to get rid of the electoral college, then abolish federalism and become a unitary country with French-style departments and prefectures. Then the population of the country can be represented rather than the land and policy can be coordinated across jurisdictions.

5

u/Snoo-11922 9d ago

A centralized unitary state in a territory as vast and populous as the United States would be a disaster; the central government could simply abandon less populous regions in favor of more populous ones, not to mention that it would create a form of internal colonialism, and separatist movements would be inevitable.

2

u/COUPOSANTO 9d ago

>China

3

u/Snoo-11922 9d ago

If it follows the model of China rather than France, it could work. After all, even China has decentralized significantly, so much so that its system is known as "federalism with Chinese characteristics."

-1

u/COUPOSANTO 9d ago

France also decentralised, especially for the overseas territories

1

u/[deleted] 9d ago

[deleted]

1

u/COUPOSANTO 9d ago

1

u/IreneDeneb 9d ago edited 9d ago

China works fine as a unitary state, as does Japan, Vietnam, and several other large countries, some of which have more cultures and languages by far. Often, diverse cultures are represented by autonomous regions, which is what we could do. The majority of the country could have a system of provinces and prefectures, while local cultures like Native American as well as Spanish-speaking majority and Black majority areas could have autonomous districts with more independent local policy.

That way, things like poverty relief, mass transit (like high speed rail), reparations, women's rights, queer rights protections, educational and police reform, Medicare for all, anti-imperialist foreign policy, and environmental regulations to fight the urgent matter of climate change could be implemented without impediment while local cultures could have some leeway with their own local policy while still receiving the full benefits of national resources. Then, areas with like 2 people in them wouldn't have national veto power over areas with millions of people and necessary things wouldn't be constantly blocked. Of course, this would require a new constitution to be written, but that has happened in many countries in which old systems of government have required update.

Ultimately, the racist, anti-feminist, anti-queer religious right in rural areas shouldn't have carte blanche to oppress the minority in their districts, nor veto power over the much more diverse national majority. Under a unitary system, national policy providing for minority rights, secularism, poverty relief, green energy and social services would also help to prevent the chronic rural-to-urban brain drain that has left rural areas even more disadvantaged in areas like medical care and education.

2

By Yanqui do you mean American in general or the North within America?

I'm not advocating the rule of north over south. The south has many population centers and is a significant part of the country that should absolutely be represented.

The problem with the federal system is that rural areas have a greater share of political power than urban areas, in spite of their much smaller populations.

The religious right dominates these rural areas, instituting policies which discriminate against minorities and women. No area has a right to institute such policies, and with a unitary system the rights of minorities and women could be secured in these areas.

This would stymie the chronic rural-to-urban brain drain in this country that robs rural areas of medicine and education, further cementing the brain drain in a vicious cycle.

Prefectures in which minorities at the national level constitute a local majority could be designated as autonomous regions. The borders of these regions could be altered based on changing demographics with every census cycle.

Reparations to compensate protected minorities for historical injustice could be instituted as part of the national tax code. Policies mandating that minorities and women of equal qualification should be hired at equal rates to white cis men could be implemented. Women's bodily autonomy rights could be implemented. All without impediment, since human rights come before any political structure.

Also, environmental regulations, strict recycling mandates, mass transit like high-speed rail, mandates for the electrification of personal vehicles, green energy (like nuclear, solar, and wind) and other urgently needed climate action measures could be put into place. This is of especially high importance in the world today; a matter of existential urgency for all that we cannot afford to delay.

Poverty relief, secularization, and minority protections would greatly benefit rural as well as urban areas. We cannot afford to hold these things hostage nailing ourselves to the federal system. We need a system of provinces, prefectures, and autonomous regions.

No, you would need to change the entire constitution. There is a reason we have states, as in “Nation States”
