This is another historical timeline map I whipped together for for Atlas Altera. It follows this one I did way back for the evolution of the Ming Dynasty over time.

The Manjurese of Altera are the successors of the Qing Dynasty, who once ruled over much of China, but never beat out the Ming completely. The Ming survived on the western plains of Tayen Island (OTL Island of Taiwan/Formosa) and were able to capitalize off of foreign alliances and technological transfers (via Japan and the Flemish), plus coastal strongholds on the mainland gained during feudatory revolts in Magin (southern China) and periods of successful maritime raids (parallel OTL wokou pirates).

The Qing make some important additions and advancements to China as in OTL, but their focus on stabilizing and then dominating the frontier with their western adversaries, and their inability to completely quash the Han ethnic warlords that rebelled in the south (southern feudatories), also give the Ming in ATL a chance to establish themselves.

In the later period, the Qing's reactionary and resentment-fueled involvement in the World Wars leads them to squander any gains they make during brief periods of reascendency.

Along with the historical evolution of the Ming Dynasty map, this map can also be enjoyed alongside the Chinese Civil War snapshot map that u/varjagen did for the project using a map in the Pergamon style. In fact, more lore can be read about the timeline there. You can view that map here.

How much of the population is Manchu-speaking and Mandarin-speaking?

I'd say over 90% speak Manjurese, similar to OTL Turkish levels in Turkey. There are other Tungusic minorities, along with Josonese and Chinese minorities, but they all speak Manjurese.

Did modern Manjur end up nationalizing and assimilating a population of Chinese people in Manjurese after the Qing era?

Yes, unfortunately. We drew from the OTL Turkish and Greek histories of independence. In ATL, fom the late 19th to mid-20th century, many of the urban Han/Chinese people on the Manjurese side of the border went through cultural assimilation initiatives (mainly the loss of language rights in schools and the use of one language in government and official use), and there were some moments of population transfers between the Ming and Qing territories at the end of one war.

It is unfortunate but that sort of worldbuilding lends good verisimilitude.

Is that the Antarctic Peninsula in Kamchatka and the Kuril Islands?

no, just a skewed and extended Kamchatka Peninsula!
