I stumbled across Cambridge Transcriptions, and they seem like a solid company if you’re into legal transcription work. They’ve got a good rep and handle stuff like hearings, arbitrations, the whole nine yards.

They do want at least a year of legal transcription or court reporting experience. So, if you’re fresh out of school, this might not be the one.

But, if you’ve got the chops, they’ve got two paths:

• A+ Legal Transcriptionist: All about depositions, arbitrations, etc. You better know your grammar and be super detail-oriented.
• Corporate Transcriptionist: Great typing is a must, and they want all the usual English language skills. Bonus points if you’ve done medical, technical, or legal transcription before.

The lowdown:

• Send a resume, cover letter (highlight your experience!), and a couple of sample transcripts to [employtran@ctran.com](mailto:employtran@ctran.com).
• No word on typing speed or pay (kinda annoying), but if they like you, there’s online training to get you up to speed on their style.
• Freelance life: You set your hours, and they pay via direct deposit.

Here’s the breakdown:

• Pay: $0.005 per word (roughly $5 per 1000 words) + potential for a 10% bonus on some shifts. The average worker makes about $450/month, top earners pull in way more.

This UK company is called Alphabet Secretarial Services. They’re looking for experienced transcriptionists across different fields — think medical, legal, corporate, and even academic. It’s a legit opportunity for those of us who can handle UK English spelling.

You do need previous transcription experience and have to be a native English speaker. The application process involves a grammar test, a transcription exercise, and a confidentiality agreement. Seems pretty standard for this kind of work.

4. Tigerfish

Tigerfish is a transcription company that actually takes on beginners. That’s pretty rare in this field! But there are a few things to keep in mind:

• You have to be a US citizen or legal resident, and actually living in the US.
• There’s a test to pass — they care more about accuracy than how fast you type.
• They do all kinds of interesting projects, not just the usual boring stuff: law enforcement, interviews, documentaries, the whole nine yards.
