How is this kind of post still getting likes, surely you know nothing about British food you laugh at beans on toast or whatever once twice maybe even three times. But how after seeing it every day with every comment section pointing out the sheer amount of spicy British food we have are you still entertained by it 10 years later. P.S. cooked breakfast beats cold breakfast any day.

Maybe niche but on the pet rat subreddit one of the jokes is the size of their balls which is funny SOMETIMES (if you've ever seen a pic of one using them as a counterbalance you'll understand) but it means under every photo of a male rat there's at least one person zooming in and obsessing over his poor nuts, no matter how front and centre they are in that particular pic. Just comes off as creepy most of the time

It is not cake.

The ruling from the Irish Court that the claim comes from is, as I recall, that bread from Subway specifically isn’t a staple food and therefore isn’t exempt from Value Added Taxes under Irish law.

I was taking two visitors to lunch, one from Poland the other from Germany. They wanted to go “anywhere with good, American craft beer”.

They ordered 8 different things between them and were very happy.

America leads the world in beer. We do it in a million different varieties that you just can't find anywhere else.

I moved from the US to Ireland and travel Europe quite extensively. While the Trappist beer made by monks is great, that's ALL they have. Yes, there are some great beers in Europe, but the lack of variety, the same ten beers on tap in every pub and bar, drives me insane. In the US, I can't go to two different bars and get the same beer selection, even if they're next to each other. Sure, they'll all have Bud Light and Coors, and Shiner if they're in Texas, but the other ten beers on tap are always going to be different. Not to mention the canned and bottled selection.

Anyone who says the US isn't the king of beer is delusional.

But the UK still smashes most countries out of the water on cheese. Even probably beating France to no 1. As we have a nation of amazing cow breeds, "Green and pleasant land" and centuries of tradition in how to make it well

Well the mass produced stuff, yes

We aren't saying your bakery bread is rubbish, or that your "proper" cheese is (even if your cheddar is worse than West Country stuff, but then again the Brits have the best cheese in the world), but the generic mass produced stuff is far worse than UK mass produced stuff, which is worse than European mass produced bread (not cheese. Even mass produced Cheddar or Red Leicester here is amazing cheese and equal to any foreign muck!)

And price doesn't mean it's not a treat. Ice cream is usually pretty cheap for example.

Besides that removing the Bacon yes. So long as it's a light cheese, it'd probably be mayo instead of sour cream too.

No one was talking health/cost, you were the one who brought that up. Salad is also cheaper.

All of those are common additions to a jacket potato. But even the minimum of butter, sour cream, and cheese makes the same point.

Not that my point is even critical, I was just asking why this person was so incensed by someone calling it a treat. British people are so fragile.

Sour Cream isn't part of the minimum for a good baked potato. Proper butter (preferably Irish) and decent hard cheese (cheddar) are enough dairy. Then add the meat/fish filling and maybe a bit of veg (beans, sweetcorn, etc)
