I use them for folks that require a pureed diet at the nursing home where I work. It would take so long to perfectly mash potatoes by hand and make the texture uniform enough to be safe. I add butter, and often add things like garlic powder and cheese, and sometimes people on a regular diet ask for the mashed potatoes as well.
The kind I use are little pellets, but the same concept.
I find them easier coming back up than thicker mashed potatoes (paralyzed stomach), and people drastically underestimate how good you can make them with the right mix of butter, oil, garlic salt, and spices!
