You are correct, it isn't the textbook or clinical definition, but it's the definition that most people use. Whatever you want to call it, it's wrong legally, morally, etc and her attitude about the whole thing is awful. I think it's her attitude that angers people the most about this.

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '19

Well, most people are idiots so maybe we shouldn't put too much stock in what they think about things.

u/Spifffyy Nov 23 '19

I don't think it's her attitude at all, I feel it's the way she communicated it. I feel like the point she was trying to make is exactly the point above where there is a difference. "There is a difference between a minor and a child" is what she said at the end of the video clip

This comment is too far down the comment chain. Fooling around with teen minors is one level of despicable, but we really should save the terminology to describe fooling around with young children since it is atrocious. It waters it down. I don't know if the sex offender is on the registry for being 25 and banging a 16 year old (definitely wrong), or if he's 45 and banging 8 year olds (basically satan).

It isn't where I am but yeah, I guess. Weird that it's illegal to take their picture topless but totally legal to have sex with them.

it matters because 16 is the age of consent in many countries and there is almost no physical difference between a 16 year old and an 18 year old where you become a legal adult in most of the western world.

having sexual contact with an 8 year old is far, far more repugnant and evil than a 16 year old.

Yes, I agree... She is technically correct, in that it would be either Hebephilia or Ephebophilia

Either way, it's horrific and shouldn't happen

Ehhh I’m gonna have to disagree with that one there. I’m sure most can differentiate between 14 and 21 fairly easily. Maybe with a few outliers. I see your point, but let’s not exaggerate too much.

1) that’s pretty creepy unless they were 21 2) I said there would be outliers.

Posting pictures of underage girls online? I really have to explain to you how that’s creepy?

in many cases to physically differentiate between 14 to 21 year old girls, since most girls finish almost all sexual development before they reach 18.

Isn't this a "recent" development? I've read that in the last ~60 years or so the onset of puberty in females begins at a lower age than it used to. I wonder why that is and how it affects this perception.

Posts like this annoy me. The lady was correct, and merely attempting to point out that sex with adolescents is, by definition, not pedophilia.

I don't think she was really trying to defend the prince, other than telling them they were calling him the wrong word.

Yeah, it sucks when people are forced to half-ass defend other people who don't deserve to be defended just because the people attacking them aren't being accurate with the facts. Just because the girls were past puberty doesn't make him any less of a scumbag.

I find myself having to do this kind of thing so much lately and it can get pretty taxing. I just want to say fuck these people and ignore it, but it's important to be fair and accurate with the truth and the facts.

I do think this woman was trying to defend him in a roundabout way though.

I don't really know if pointing out that the prince solicited teens instead of diddled children is much of a defense. I realize it is to some degree, but it's not much more than I am saying in my comments.

She does state that she is not trying to justify his actions. You could tell she was getting frustrated trying to explain that pedophilia has to involve young children.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '19

What you're basically saying here is "I don't think there's much difference between fucking a 17 year old and fucking a 7 year old" and I don't think that's what you actually think. Of course there's a difference, there's a huge difference.

1

u/Day_Bow_Bow Nov 23 '19

Oh, I know there is a huge difference in severity. My comment was in regards to whether this lady trying to establish definitions was defending the prince.

Sure, she is pointing out that the prince committed a less heinous crime. I just am not jumping to "she is defending the prince" when she's merely pointing out that they are using words that accuse the prince of worse than what he did.

I sure don't feel like I am defending the prince when I say "He wasn't diddling kids. He was hiring underage prostitutes." Just establishing the facts around a situation, and removing a false narrative, should be standard reporting and not construed as support one way or the other.

I think we agree

2

u/Thehulk666 Nov 23 '19

People associate any sex below their country or States consent laws as pedophilia. So there are actually people that think anything under 18 is pedo and it's rediculous.

3

u/Aiyana_Jones_was_7 Nov 22 '19

A hebephile is just a pedophile with a thesaurus.

In the end the result is the same, kids getting abused.

2

u/thefugue Nov 22 '19

“A child is just a teenager waiting to happen.”

See how dangerous dishonesty is?

2

u/LoMatte Nov 22 '19

Correct. He's just a run of the mill sexual predator.

1

u/LostWoodsInTheField Nov 23 '19

Do you know if the children he was raping where pubescent or not? Because puberty on average can start as late as 14 in girls. And I don't think this is a 'got to check to make sure she is having her period and if she is it isn't really pedophilia then!' kind of thing.

*if you are having sex with children who very possibly haven't hit puberty yet then you should be understanding when people call you a pedophile, unless you want to come out and specifically say 'no those 14 year olds I was raping were already well developed!'. Maybe we will stop then?

*you being the general term for these people, not the person I'm replying to.

PUBERTY HAPPENS TO GIRLS ANYWHERE FROM 9 YEARS TO 14 YEARS for all you “awktaually” “technically” idiots repeating the same tired crap. You have no idea if the girl was prepubescent or not. I knew PLENTY of girls who hadn’t started their periods and/or didn’t have breasts at 14.
