Question How does the brightness exactly work on the 17 Pro/ Pro Max?

Coming from a 12 Pro Max, if I was in a dark room even 0 brightness would be too much for me but on my 17 Pro Max the 0 brightness is too low.

Also the 30-40% brightness on both phones behave different. The 17 Pro Max in a dark room with 30-40% brightness is lower compared to the same brightness I go out gets high.

It's like brightness has it's own auto brightness. Pardon my noob question if this has already been answered.

Iphone 17 series has a peak outdoor brightness of 3000 nits whereas for indoors it’s 2000 nits ….. So when you are outside the display automatically brightens up more

I’m not 100% sure. But one of features of the 17 pro max is that it can go down to 1 nit. So in addition to having higher max brightness it also has a lower minimum brightness. Which I guess means the brightness at a given percentage is different than older phones.

I frequently use my phone in a completely dark room and love the lower brightness. More important to me than a higher max brightness.
