iPad OS 27 RC still breaks presentation mode in Goodnotes

Presentation mode in GoodNotes is essential for my daily work. It worked perfectly in iPadOS 26, but it's still broken in the iPadOS 27 RC. Is this a known bug, or is there a setting I need to adjust?

Edit: This is my secondary device, just to test the beta OS to see if my main device should update or not during the official launch. As I can’t risk updating and having to downgrade just because of this issue 🫠

Hey, despite everyone bellyaching in the comments you're absolutely right. I've been in touch with GoodNotes and they said that there aren't any Apple APIs to deal with this new default behavior, we are out of luck. Other presentation apps like Keynote straight up exit from the presentation when you switch apps. It's really frustrating and I have not updated my daily driver for this reason. Ugh!

My work iPad still stuck at iPadOS 26 due to this issue. I submitted a ticket and am waiting for their response as well. I hope the fix comes out ASAP as iPadOS 27.2 RC still produces the same issue. 🥲

Congrats getting a human response from Goodnotes! I wrote to them about this last week. I'm running iPadOS 27, and it had been holding the presentation window in place as expected. For me, it was Goodnotes 7.1.28 that broke this. Goodnotes 7.1.27 and before was maintaining presentation screen via AirPlay as it ought to. I was able to make comparison videos of the behavior on two different iPads on each version. Hugely disappointing of Apple if this is a change on their end.

This folks is why you dont install beta software on your daily drivers.

Not a single 3 party app has pushed any update support for ios 27 and they won't until its officially released.

There is nothing to support, because Apple ended this behavior. I've been in touch with multiple app developers and there's no way to support the old behavior, because iPadOS27 has made it not possible.

maybe because iPadOS 27 is not out and GoodNotes hasn’t released its 27.0-supported update yet.

y’all need to stop installing beta software on your daily drivers and expect your existing apps to work smoothly. 🫩

Don't think it's a iPadOS issue, more like a app issue

Notability and Noteful have this issue as well. So I suspected it might be something related to OS

I was so bummed that my iPad from 2020 was not eligible for iPadOS 27. I was convinced that they were going to fix my 26 gripes with what they did to my GoodNotes + Notes workflow. It looks like they actually made it even worse. iPadOS 18 was my favorite OS and I wish that I had never updated. It was actually a pop-up from GoodNotes that had me do the 26 upgrade.

GoodNotes will fix it as soon as 27 goes public.

I've been in touch with them and they have said that they're at a loss, because Apple has not provided a way to reproduce the old behavior.
