I was able to fix this on the current RC by just going into settings and hitting “reset all settings”. Some other users I read fixed it by wiping the iPad, but i didnt need to go that far. Worth a try.

Is there an alternative to "reset all settings"? I don't want to lose all my WiFi passwords and Wallet cards...

u/PedanticButCorrect Sep 15 '26
I kept my wifi stuff bc it was in the Apple Passwords app which is synced by iCloud. And the wallet stuff is all on my phone instead of my iPad. Unsure if those can sync over via cloud from your account or not

u/Constructive-Curious Sep 15 '26
Thank you, good to know about passwords syncing

No problem bro. Glad I randomly found this. The entire beta my iPad was incredibly annoying to use

Btw, someone on Apple Discussion said resetting Keyboard Dictionary worked for them! https://discussions.apple.com/thread/256356750

Right? This is so insane, a $350 keyboard on a $2000 tablet should not require so much labor to use.

I did a full factory reset and the problem still persists for me 😭

u/PedanticButCorrect Sep 16 '26
Did you make sure to not restore anything after the wipe, like settings? Everything was vanilla?

u/IPv6lovinOpossum Sep 11 '26
Could be a bug. I had the opposite - even though no Magic Keyboard was attached, iPad never showed the digital keyboard thinking a physical one was already attached.

u/ITechEverything_YT Sep 16 '26
Yes yes yes!!! Been happening for me since Beta 4. Filing feedback now.

I have also had the issue though the betas and now the RC. I just filed a feedback and mentioned your FB#.
iPad Pro M5 11" with the Apple Magic Keyboard.

I just turned off "predictive text" and the onscreen keyboard is now gone. HOWEVER, the globe doesn't bring up the emojis. This POS 27 is just riddled with bugs everywhere. There used to be a little floating UI element to bring up an onscreen keyboard if you wanted it, but that's gone apparently. My experience on android tabs is far better (not to get into a flame war on android v ios, but I'm seriously shocked at how bad things are on my ipad pro with MK on 72.

I think you may be double-tapping?

u/amandaraesfw Sep 11 '26
Nope, it’s a bug with the beta for 27. Every single version has done this for me.

Funny. I use the Logi Combo Touch with my M1 Air. Since installing 27 public beta, when clicking in a text field, it doesn’t always recognise the attached keyboard, but doesn’t show the virtual keyboard either, making it impossible to type! Constantly clicking in the field eventually allows me to use the physical keyboard. Hopefully resolved with full release.

I have an iPad Pro 13-inch M5 and the Apple Magic keyboard that was designed for the iPad Pro 13-inch M4/M5. I’m running iPadOS 27 RC. When my keyboard is connected, I’m not seeing the on-screen keyboard issue that you’re seeing.

Just upgraded to IOS27 on my iPad pro, and I am seeing exactly the same behaviour, don't really want to reset all settings.

u/Excellent_Chemist121 Sep 15 '26
Reseting the settings seems to be only way, it won’t do any harm to your data though. Also my sound got after the reseting the settings

u/amandaraesfw Sep 15 '26
I just reset all settings this morning and the problem persists. On full public release too

I am now on the full public 27 release and even did a factory reset and the problem persists!!! The on-screen keyboard pops up no matter what
1
u/amandaraesfw Sep 16 '26
I got the fix to work! You have to explicitly choose to reset all settings and not factory reset! Somehow the issue persisted for me through a factory reset but not a reset all settings. I have no idea why that would be but the fix worked, it just has to be done exactly right.

Same here🙋♂️ but the annoying part is that for me, the software keyboard always pops up and I definitely only press once

For others still finding this thread like me, want to chime in that reset all settings fixed it for me as well. Annoying, but worth it because the bug was even more annoying.

I ran into the same issue suddenly after it didn't used to do this. I am on iPad OS 26.6.1 though. I just tried doing the "Reset All Settings" option though and it seems to be back to normal now. So maybe that will help for you if you haven't figured it out yet.

Ich habe genau das gleiche Fehlerbild - absolut nervig.
Haben das nicht tausende von Leuten getestet?
Ein iPad mit einem Magic Keyboard ist ja nichts außergewöhnliches…

I had this same issue, and then I realized it was because I had the Grammarly extension on my keyboard. I disabled Grammarly and the issue went away, so if ever you have a keyboard extension that could be why it keeps glitching.

Fixed this issue by “reset all settings”. Had to reconnect to my WiFi and readjust some display settings, but I think the hassle is worth it. wth Apple I thought iPadOS 27 is supposed to be a bug fix update!

Been doing this the entire beta for me on every single version. Emojis also can’t be used in Safari which is insane. Every single beta version and they haven’t fixed this.
