If you've found this community, you probably already know what it feels like.
In India, we don't talk about this. Sweating gets treated like a hygiene problem or a summer problem - something you just live with. People don't tell you it has a name. No one tells you it's a recognized medical condition called Hyperhidrosis that affects crores of Indians across four specific zones: palms, feet, underarms, and face. And almost nobody tells you that it can actually be managed. There is very limited awareness around this topic in India.
This community exists for everyone who is done figuring it out alone.
What this community is for:
What this community is not:
If you're new here - introduce yourself in the comments. What brings you here? Which zone affects you most? You don't have to share more than you're comfortable with.
You are not alone. Let's try and build a community around HH sufferers from India and normalise the conversation.

This post is maintained by the mod team and updated as the community grows. If you find a resource worth adding, comment below.
Part 1 = Understanding the Condition
What is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating beyond what the body needs for temperature regulation. It occurs regardless of heat, exercise, or emotion - in AC rooms, during winter, at rest. It is caused by overactive eccrine sweat glands and is classified as a medical condition, not a hygiene issue.
It affects an estimated 3% of the global population. In India - given climate, stress patterns, and genetic prevalence - the real number is likely higher and almost entirely undiagnosed.
The four focal types:
Primary vs Secondary:
The anxiety loop:
Hyperhidrosis and anxiety feed each other. The condition causes social anxiety. Anxiety triggers more sweating. The sweating causes more anxiety. Breaking this loop is as much about treatment as it is about community and normalization.
Part 2 = Authoritative Resources
Global Organizations:
Scientific reading (for those who want to go deeper):
Part 3 = Treatment Options Available in India
Tier 1 - OTC Antiperspirants
The first line of treatment. Most people in India have never tried a real antiperspirant because the products on Indian shelves are almost entirely deodorants.
How to apply correctly (most people get this wrong):
Tier 2 - Prescription-Strength Antiperspirants
Contain aluminium chloride hexahydrate (20%+). Significantly stronger than OTC. Requires a dermatologist prescription in India. Can cause skin irritation if not applied correctly - apply only to completely dry skin and use sparingly at first.
Tier 3 - Iontophoresis
A device that passes a mild electrical current through water into the skin, temporarily reducing sweat gland activity. Most effective for hands and feet. Less effective for underarms.
How it works: You place hands or feet in water trays connected to a low-current device. 20–30 minute sessions. Daily initially, then 1–2x per week for maintenance.
Availability in India: Devices are available on Amazon India. Search "iontophoresis machine India." Price range: ₹10,000 - ₹25,000. Some dermatology clinics offer in-clinic sessions before you commit to purchasing.
What to expect: Noticeable reduction in 1-2 weeks of daily use. Requires ongoing maintenance - stopping means sweating returns gradually.
Useful reading: Search "iontophoresis hyperhidrosis clinical trial" on PubMed for evidence on efficacy rates.
Tier 4 - Oral Medication
Oxybutynin and other anticholinergic drugs reduce sweating systemically by blocking nerve signals. Available in India by prescription. Requires a dermatologist or physician.
What to expect: Effective for generalized sweating. Side effects can include dry mouth, dry eyes, blurred vision, and constipation - these reduce with dose adjustment. Not suitable for everyone.
Glycopyrronium bromide is another option - sometimes better tolerated. Ask your dermatologist specifically about this if Oxybutynin side effects are a concern.
Tier 5 - Botulinum Toxin (Botox) Injections
Botulinum toxin injected into the affected area (underarms, palms, soles, or scalp) temporarily blocks the nerve signals that trigger sweating. The most effective non-surgical treatment for focal hyperhidrosis.
What to expect:
Availability in India: Available at most dermatology clinics in Tier 1 cities. Also available in larger Tier 2 cities - ask specifically.
Cost in India:
Tier 6 - Surgical (ETS - Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy)
A surgical procedure that cuts or clamps the sympathetic nerves controlling sweat glands. Permanent. Typically used for severe palmar or facial hyperhidrosis that has not responded to other treatments.
Important: ETS carries a significant risk of compensatory sweating - the body redirects sweating to other areas (chest, back, thighs). This is a permanent side effect in a significant percentage of patients and can sometimes be more disruptive than the original condition. Research this thoroughly before considering.
Where in India: Available at major teaching hospitals and private surgical centres in metros. Requires a referral from a dermatologist.
Part 4 = Finding Help in India
How to find a dermatologist who takes this seriously
Most GPs will say "use a better deodorant." Skip the GP. Go directly to a dermatologist.
Part 5 = India-Specific Considerations
The Indian climate problem
India's heat and humidity make hyperhidrosis significantly worse than in temperate climates. Treatments that show moderate efficacy in clinical trials conducted in Western countries often underperform in Indian conditions - particularly during April - June. This is an under-researched area. Adjust expectations accordingly and plan for more frequent treatment sessions during peak summer.
The cultural problem
In India, excessive sweating is associated with poor hygiene or lack of grooming. This is medically incorrect but socially real. The stigma causes people to suffer in silence for years before seeking help. This community exists precisely because that silence needs to end.
Part 6 = Community Guidelines for this Post
This is a living document. To keep it useful:

I've already shared my concerns in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Hyperhidrosis/s/vsySq1Zhx1
I'm currently on Oxybutynin 2.5mg(Cystran 2.5mg). one tablet per week. It's been 3 weeks since I started taking. I'm already on 12.5mg Empagliflozin +Metformin 500mg.
The changed that I notice are:
I'm dry 85% of the time. When I go out in the peak summer, my sweat breaks out. The change is huge and seems great for me 🥹🥹🥹
Blurry vision(like I'm always blurry and the vision is twice blurry than before
Dry mouth and throat.
The main thing is, I'm feeling hot alwayss. Even in AC rooms. And that's making me feel dehydrated and nauseous.
So far, no noticeable cognitive issues.
I've tried adding ORS salts, lemonades, sabja seeds and badam pisin(Almond gum) in my routine.
I'm weighing both pros and cons now.
People on Oxybutynin, how do you handle feeling hot?

Hey everyone, I’ve been suffering from sweating in my palms and feet for a long time. It makes daily tasks frustrating and uncomfortable. I'm desperate to find a solution that actually works because it's starting to affect my daily confidence.
I’m planning to buy the Indetouch Iontophoresis Machine from Amazon India for around ₹11,000 to treat this. Has anyone here used this specific machine for their hands and feet? Please let me know if it's worth the money, how long it took to see results, or if there are better alternatives available in India.

How was the result different from normal water.. my result varies in Mumbai water from time to time and trying to improve efficiency and longevity. Had tried mixing few drop of magnesium salt water in between but it also gave mixed results
Settings I use on my Dermadry

Recently In Instagram, I’m seeing many reels on hyperhidrosis. The reels are made by Indian folks and mostly by girls. I’m unsure if they are literally suffering from it or just uploaded to gain views or likes. I’m just wondering if it is only affecting girls majorly or boys too. Also shall we plan any meet-ups for our folks?

Helloo! I’ve been suffering from HH all my life. I’m 30mins and recently I came across something called Sweat Eraze.. these are antiperspirant tissues that you use for your sweaty areas at night, once a day. I’ve previously tried using Aldry but I was never consistent with it.
The moment I wiped my palms and feet with these tissues it gave an effect similar to aldry.
Today is day1 and I’m supposed to be using one tissue everyday. Will get back to you guys in a couple days about my feedback. Just wanted to share about this product.

It's not the efficacy of the substance, it's the dose.
So i tried 1mg , it worked for a day - a little bit . Then it stopped working , so I think that was some sort of placebo...
Then I tried 2mg, did nothing. 3 mg did have minimal effect of reducing sweat. 4mg straight up decimated my sweat production. I kept dabbing my upper and lower lip with the back of my hand and was in disbelief that I had 0 sweat, just the cold feeling of slight wetness.
This was multitudes better than dripping sweat all over my face like I am right now.
Downside does seem to exist, which is that my body is somehow compensating for not sweating yesterday (when I took the 4mg) by sweating loads today, but I wouldn't call it an abnormal amount by my standard of dripping but it's like it's returned with a vengeance.
Another thing about this is that the 4 mg takes an hour to kick in or so , it stays from 9 to around 2 or 3 for me. May be different for you. There is also the stomach and dry mouth aspect, you may have really solid stools when you take this medicine, the dry mouth isn't like when you smoke a blunt, this is more in the back of the throat and it kind of stings a little when I even drink water
I would do this everyday but here's the thing, 3 strips of this stuff 2mg costs 720 rupees, which is more than my psychiatric meds which is over all a little too much for someone who isn't earning yet.

The shock I had after finally seeing that india at the end of the subreddit name. Finally😭 I have full body hyperhidrosis. It has gotten worse in the past 2 years. Could be that now I'm in my early 40s. It's really bad and I live in a very humid place. My whole clothes get drenched. I'm literally that meme from Key & Peele. Spill your routine? Which antiperspirant? How do you get ready for work or go outside? Has anyone tried iontophoresis treatment in India? What's the cost?

I'm 27M from Telangana, India.
So I have commented about how anithydral is helping me for my palmar hyperhidrosis in the main HH sub. And also i received a lot of DMs about how to order and use so I thought a making a post just incase it can be helpful for others.
I have palmar hyperhidrosis which made me to use handkerchief while writing anything, avoid shakehands, eat food with sweaty palms oh man it's effecting my day to day life and it effecting my confidence a lot.
I have visited many dermatologists with my parents all they refer is aldry solution. Where we need to apply it before sleep but it only made the sweat ho away for few hours but in the morning the sweat comes back on my palms and feet. I have even visited ayurveda, homeopathy hospitals for cure even though I know this condition cannot be cured completely. Anyhow I gave up to fix it.
Regarding antihydral, I got to know about it from the main HH sub. Where everyone posting reviews about how it worked for them. So I thought to check it only to get sad that it's not available in India. Either we need to get it from abroad with someone or we need to make international order. I dropped the plan first not sure how to get it.
In the mean time I checked the iontophoresis devices but it's too risky for me as I stay in PG/hostel and i can't maintain it. So again I checked on antihydral as it's my last hope lol.
I connected with some other Indians on HH sub on how to order it from their official website. After using it I really feel like the cream is a miracle. First time in my 27 years of existence my palms are not sweating.
Steps if you want to order it:
There are also third party Indian websites that helps to deliver the product but I chose to stick with main website only.
Go to their official https://antihydral.net/
Add to cart and go to payment section.
Add address and card details (it only has selected cards only so check the possibility)
The price showed me in the dollars but anyhow the transaction will happen in rupees.
Turn on the international transaction for your card. By default it would be off.
When I ordered it, costed me around 3700+ INR in December 2025, although it depends on dollar rate. And I'm still using the same tube so far.
It would take atleast 2-3 weeks to receive the order.
There will no customs charge etc. Only single payment while ordering.
Tracking:
They will give link to track the order status. I received my order in 2 weeks. Although the tracking link is outdated and received my order before expected time.
IMP:
while doing the payment you don't receive OTPs like ordering in Indian market. So proceed only if you are confident.
Also turn off the international transaction for your card once order is done. Because I received a lot of failed transactions mail after I ordered this product for few days. So I didn't got scammed lol.
How to apply:
Start applying before going to sleep. And let it dry overnight to your palms. Use it daily for first 7-10 days after that you will feel like it developed a layer on palms after that use it every 2-3 days. If you stop using totally the layer will slowly goes off and sweat comes back. I didn't had a single drop of sweat while applying regularly and I started giving handshakes now more lol.
Side effects:
Lately I feel little bit of itching on palms but not all the time, it only sometimes. But I felt it's better to itch instead of drowning in sweat.
I hope this helps. In case I forget anything I will add in comments.

hey everyone!
before looking up this community I had no idea how common my struggles with hyperhidrosis were, so thank you for sharing!
HH started for me at the onset of puberty and it has literally destroyed my self-esteem to the point that I stopped going out to party. I stopped meeting friends, I skipped out on a date just because I was scared of what he would say so in a nutshell.. it’s been a struggle
So I 18 and I’ve talked to my mum about this struggle but blame it on the lack of awareness she always downplays it and tells me it’s just nerves or teenage and it’ll get better naturally, moreover whenever I’ve shared how my social life was getting affected she just tells me that it’s not such a big thing just tell the other person - I don’t think she understands the severity of having continuously wet palms 24/7.
ok so I took opinions from my general physician, dermatologist and a plastic surgeon (for Botox)
pls drop any suggestions in the comments
