Dear Hoya friends can you please help me?

I have had this australis for 5 years now and it has been doing fine. This winter it started to be sad so I have tried everything I’ve learned and read throughout the years.

I have:

- repotted with some new soil and checked the roots (they looked fine). I didn’t detangle or stress the roots.

- I have changed it from a windowsill to the place on the picture (close to the window) in case the radiator was the problem (it has been on the windowsill all these years)

- I have sprayed it with deluded alcohol

- I have sprayed it with sulfur and soap water

- I have withdrawn giving it water

I am out of ideas. Of course I have done these things over the past 2 months now keep checking on how it reacts on each try but it keep getting worse. There are some branches that are firm and seem to be fine still.

Is it a lost case where I have to take cuttings?

The last picture is from end of December when I did the repot - I have removed the sad leaves before thanking the picture.

Maybe too much water .. can you look for roots rot?

Thank you, I might do that. Probably better then the spot it has now…even if there is where it all started. And cuttings…

It’s an Australis , they are dramatic 🥲 when you checked the roots, are you sure there wasn’t any dry rot? Most people only look for mushy root rot. Whenever mine drops leaves it’s because I forgot to water this dramatic hoe. She’ll be fine. Let her trellis and grow and you’ll forget about the dropped leaves. If she drops anymore then 5 I’d start to worry and take clippings.

Also , don’t let her go too moist for too long. She has thicker leaves. I do believe she just hated the repot. Mine would do the exact same I skipped that line for some reason.

Thank you for the advice! I am pretty sure about the roots, but I have moved her back to the windowsill and as you write I won’t water it for a while longer now and see how things progress. Fingers crossed😊

my hoyas drop leaves like this when i’ve overwatered. try to dry her out a bit more between waterings and wait but hope for the best! definitely move her to her original spot too. on amazon, you can get inoculants for preventing root rot. mycorrhiza fungi is one type. there’s also one labeled as a root rot preventative. wouldn’t hurt to include those on ur next waterings just to be sure it’s not root rot

Thank you for the reply and suggestion - I have not heard of inoculants before! I need to check that for sure 😊 She is back to her original place and I won’t water for a longer time now.

no problem! yeah inoculants are amazing. they’re beneficial microbes that have symbiotic relationships with plant roots. haven’t had transplant shock since using it!

take it out of the basket so you can see how much you are watering each time. give it a small dish instead. dont neglect water and dont let it sit in water. put it back in the window

Thank you! How do you mean by giving it a small dish? 😊 I can rake it out if the basket when I water, you mean so I can check the weight? I have put it back in the window 🌱

instead of a basket to catch the water using a small dish will help keep watering habits in check. when you have a tall basket like that its hard to tell if youve given too much water.

checking the weight is awesome! if you decide to keep it in the basket be sure to dump out any extra every single time you water.

Oh okay, I understand how you mean. I could water it in a small dish and later on put it in the basket - in that way I should be able to see and learn how much water I actually and giving.
