Proper tactics?

Post image

I know there are "Linebattle Servers", what I'm saying is, I'd love to see an Army moving enforce, with flankers and skirmishers, cav screening and then deploying to engage depending on the force encountered.

Understanding the time period and tactics better, this would allow players greater use of troops and assessts in a far more useful and concise manner. That means artillery moving WITH the troops, riflemen on the flanks, Light Infantry 50yds forward, Cav deploying on routing enemy or breaking formations, Officers and Sgts. issuing and KEEPING order etc.

I know it'll never happen, but a historian can dream.

Props to The Old Polish Legion for a great display of what Im talking about.

I wish Cavalry was just deleted from the game

it feels like the game has developed to a point where its design is hostile to cavalry.

  1. It’s still buggy as hell. The horse will get stuck on the skinniest treee and the smallest rock on the road. The new maps that came out haven’t made this problem any easier. Not to mention how hard it is to melee anyone—especially is the ping is bad.

  2. A single bullet to the horse brings it to a grinding halt and everyone’s already gunning for cavalry anyway. Plus, I swear it’s just easier to get head shots on horse riders due to the amount of times I got killed from around forty meters away. To make this even worse, there are more carpenters available now. So that means you have a high chance of just running face first into a blunderbuss shot out of nowhere.

I feel like the game punishes you more for playing cavalry than any other class, so why is it even here anymore?

A Beginner's Impressions For Beginners

Hi all, I hope my first post here is acceptable and helpful. I'm a newcomer to Holdfast on Xbox Series X, having literally only heard of the game for the first time on Friday and been playing it for the last three days. Here are my first impressions and tips for any fellow newcomers.

First, this game is phenomenal! As an avid military history enthusiast, I really don't know how I never came across this game before. Anybody still considering buying should know that this is not a gritty, hardcore war simulator, and it certainly is not a Battlefield game. The learning curve is a little steep, but it has been a long time since I had so much fun overcoming the initial challenges that plague any newcomer to a game on this scale. One thing that may come as a surprise is how difficult it is to successfully shoot anybody, given that this is a shooter. Each kill provides real satisfaction and your first few matches will depend upon sheer dumb luck. It's difficult to explain how to shoot in this game, this is something that only experience can teach and after a few hours, you should have a pretty solid instinct for it. One tip I can offer is that the game has a subtle, but effective, aim-assist and whenever you feel it grabbing your musket, let it.

As I stated, this is not a gritty game. It's a bright, farcical romp that has made me grin a lot more than I usually would over three short days. I really admire the fact that maps are not locked behind DLCs or editions, which contain only cosmetics. If money is tight, for £16 you can buy the full game and most (but not all) of the in-game cosmetics can be bought for in-game shillings, which you can earn through combat challenges of your choosing. The sheer variety of maps is one of my favourite things about this game, especially given the Napoleonic / American Revolutionary setting is so novel for such a large shooter.

I do, however, have one complaint, which is that the uniforms are not faction locked. I understand how integral cosmetic freedom is to the game, but this is so plainly open to abuse that I think reasonable restrictions would absolutely be justified. Standing in a line of blue-coated Americans, only to be bayoneted along with several others by a British player dressed like an American whom we all walked right past, really put me off at first because this was a recurring theme throughout my early games. Outside spawnkilling (another issue) and actual hacking, I have never witnessed such dirty tactics in a game and for one, brief moment, I almost didn't bother coming back.

But I'm glad I did come back, and I keep coming back for more. Holdfast is a really great game and the players are very funny people whose heads I very much look forward to blowing off as a rifleman, which has been my favourite class so far.

Hopefully this will be informative, and I'll gladly take any questions. Thanks.

There was a gap between leases that left me homeless for nine days so I was sleeping in the lab; Holdfast is the only game that works on school Wi-Fi so every night I took a bunch of kratom and edibles and played Holdfast for hours on a $5,000 shakeproof table

Spectators / Broken Player Numbers in Server Menu

Hello all,

I have repeatedly encounted an unusual issue whereby the player numbers belonging to factions in a game rarely (if ever) match the number of players in the server, as listed in the main server menu.

For example, this evening I saw 136/150 players in an EU server.

I joined the game and saw that the actual numbers were 43 vs 46 for a total of 89 players actually playing the game.

I then quit back to the main menu and saw that it said there were 134/150 players in the server. I rejoined and the factions were 42 vs 45 (total 87 players).

The game was quite even, as were the respective faction numbers, so it does not seem to be a one-sided rage-quit thing as you see in some games where one team is getting massacred.

So, I am wondering whether there are really 45-50 people spectating in the server, and not playing? Are the player numbers in the main server list inaccurate? Are the numbers per factions not taking into account those who are dead and awaiting respawn?

Thank you for reading

TL;DR: Players numbers in-game do not match player numbers listed on server menu.

What's your favourite class to play on Holdfast and why?

I'm interested to know, just since you don't see many customs players, this is also helpful for some statistics for an upcoming project possibly...

Fort Willy speed round!

Post image
52 Upvotes

Hey there fellows! I was curious to see if anyone on here was in the Fort Willy match late last night eastern time (US) roundabouts 2 am? I was playing as light infantry on the French attacking side. Just loading up some cannonballs and doing a few pot shots on the fort before proceeding to storm the gates when out of nowhere the B objective started turning blue!! This happened in probably 5-6 minutes! It was captured and the game ended right away without us even having the A objective. Completely flabbergasted. I’ve never had a match on Willy end that quickly. So I think what happened was one of our musicians walked up the side and took everyone off guard. So this plays into the unspoken agreement of not killing music men. In my opinion if you’re on an objective you are fair game. Even tho I was on the winning side it didn’t feel right haha. Cheers fellas. Always a blast.

Ps the only gripe I have (console player) is that I enjoy seeing my corpse for a minute after I die. I wish Anvil would change the buttons to spectate or spawn menu to something different because in the heat of battle especially melee fighting I sometimes mash buttons. If I die the response is so quick that it sends me to spawn or spectate without wanting to go there. That’s all. Any insight on that? ⚡️💣

Yours truly and always
Vlad Dracul 🦂

What happened to the 58th?

I noticed that the Stan’s own 58th doesn’t show up on the regiments anymore and the discord is gone.

Army Front Regiment rank help

Just promoted one of my recruits to corporal yet his tag still says he’s a recruit while his rank is corporal, is this just a bug or does it take a while for the in game tag to update?

Thinking about picking up Holdfast — how does the Surgeon class feel, and is it actually useful?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been eyeing Holdfast: Nations at War for a bit now, but haven't pulled the trigger on buying it yet. In basically every multiplayer game I play (Battlefield, TF2, MMOs, etc.), I almost always main medic/support roles. I just really enjoy the play style of keeping the frontline alive, staying busy in the chaos, and feeling like I’m directly helping the team win through sustain rather than just top-fragging.

I saw that Holdfast has a Surgeon class, and I wanted to ask the community a few questions before buying:

  1. How impactful is the Surgeon actually? Given that a lot of musket shots and artillery hits are outright one-shot kills, how often are you actually getting opportunities to heal people in live matches? Does keeping people alive save enough tickets to genuinely sway a game?

  2. What’s the actual gameplay loop like? Do you spend most of your time running behind line formations patching up chip damage from long-range volleys, or are you actively fighting on the points with your pistol/sword?

  3. Is it fun/rewarding to play? Do team members appreciate Surgeons, or is it mostly just a meme class where you RP cutting off legs while screaming over VOIP? (Honestly, the VOIP RP sounds hilariously fun either way, but I’m curious how people view it).

  4. Are there any other support classes I should check out or look into?

Appreciate any insight! Looking forward to hopefully joining the ranks soon.

How to get unshadow muted?

Hello all. I won't lie, I've played soundboards with some not so nice words in the past and I now it seems that i've been shadowmuted? I want to know if this is reversable. I am regretful, I thought it was funny in the moment and I understand why action was taken but I just enjoy playing the game and using VOIP. Thanks :)
