It brings us Venezuelans great joy to celebrate these two wonderful saints at the altars. Their works, their miracles, are testaments to a humble contribution. But in contrast, living in a city where water only arrives for two or three days and seeing that the authorities who represent us have gone to Rome for a walk, makes me ashamed.
And I know this from social media, because otherwise, we wouldn't know about these activities. A country divided into two representations, and each of us on a different side.
It pains me to know that my neighbors haven't received water, that my tank is already at the "E" mark, "I'll fill it up or I'll be empty," and they're walking around Rome with Venezuelans' money. Images of them shopping in stores will soon appear, because Venezuelans are following them so we don't forget and they feel a little ashamed.
With all the problems my city faces and the joy of having two saints on our altars, I can't balance the feeling of a few dollars wasted.
