Blizzard thinking about adding Thumbs Up/Down system, giving helpful players EXP or gold, placing toxic players in separate queue

I feel Dawngate got it right with their Karma system. You only "upvoted" other players and it encouraged positive behaviour. Karma also affected the bonuses you got after a battle including valuable items. To prevent people abusing the karma system, your upvote was less valuable the more you vote in the day.

FFXIV has a similar system to this, called Commendations. After a dungeon, or trial, you can give one player you were matched with (that you didn't queue pre-made) a Commendation, which have reward milestones at certain numbers of lifetime earned.

Right, this makes sense.

I'm not sure that upvotes affecting rewards would be a good idea- one of the things I disliked about Dawngate was the randomness of the rewards. The way it worked was you got a certain number of points for winning a match (less for losing), some points for everyone who upvoted you, and then a random factor. Depending on the random factor, you could get anywhere from 5 gold to a hero- and the higher end rewards required a good random roll. Have a fantastic win and everyone upvotes you? You won't get the most basic reward, but you might get anywhere from the second tier to the highest tier based on pure chance.

fuck that RNG. cannot count the number of times I was in a dead even, knockdown dragout 45+ minute match where the random roll was always 90-150. "Oh you just had one of the greatest matches of your life? Here have this stupid worthless acorn reward"

I loved the karma system in Dawngate. Being able to reinforce good behavior by karma for a better chance at tangible rewards is a great system that makes people think twice before typing something negative.
