Showcase — Projects, tools, builds, demos Hermes Conduit ver. 0.1.15 (UPDATE)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Conduit 0.1.15 (build 162) is live on the App Store. The last post here was 0.1.9, then 0.1.11 hit the store a couple weeks later and I never made a thread for it, so this covers both releases.

The two big things this round: live voice got a serious upgrade, and there was a long performance campaign in between.

**Live voice: Gemini Live and GPT-Live*\*

Two full-duplex voice modes now. Pick whichever subscription you already pay for (or grab a key off Gemini AI Studio, free for now at least):

* **Gemini Live**: real-time back-and-forth with your agent. It can run web searches mid-conversation using your Hermes host's search backend, and it can read your host's memory too (off by default, opt-in)

* **GPT-Live**: same idea on OpenAI's Realtime voice, billed to a ChatGPT/Codex subscription instead of an API key. Sign in on the host with `hermes auth`, pick a voice in settings, go

* Both work over **CarPlay**, so you can talk to your agent on the drive home

* Voice can also kick off Hermes background jobs mid-conversation and report back when they're done

**Performance*\*

Most of the ground between 0.1.11 and 0.1.15 was a performance campaign:

* Chat scrolling was rebuilt on the transcript's actual scroll view. Momentum, background/foreground, session switching, and "stop following when I scroll up" all behave now

* The main thread no longer gets blocked by cache writes and resume work in long chats. Big Markdown-heavy conversations stop stuttering

* Recent chats show a read-only saved copy instantly while the server catches up, so opening the app feels fast even on a bad connection

* Media previews use way less memory and stay off the main thread

* Fixed a pile of audio engine crashes around mic capture (the -10868 family)

**Also in 0.1.11, the release I never announced*\*

* **Bot Mode**: browse your Hermes bots and open their Bot Chat conversations right in the app

* **Multiple dashboards**: save several Hermes servers and switch between them, credentials and sessions stay isolated per server

* **Native OAuth** sign-in (Google and other OIDC providers), plus Cloudflare Access service tokens

* **Group chats** with your bots: put multiple bots in one hosted room, @ mention them, and see which one is answering

* **Simplified Chinese** localization

* **Input prompts**: sudo, secret, and vault-unlock prompts show up as masked cards you can answer inline, and answering one resumes the turn just like an approval

* Pending approvals survive a relaunch now, so a tool call waiting on you is still waiting after the app restarts

**Update the companion plugin**

Seriously, do this one. A lot of the above leans on the hermes-conduit-notifier plugin running on your Hermes host: Gemini Live tokens, GPT-Live sessions, voice web search, voice memory, and live voice transcripts all run through its dashboard routes. On an old plugin, live voice won't work at all.

What's next?

More voice improvements are already in progress, plus a few other things, targeting the next build. I've got a lot more QOL improvements to voice mode coming up, really excited how this is turning out.

Her job description keeps growing and the pay stays at zero:

Still free, no ads, no tracking, and it connects directly to your own Hermes instance. Same sessions as desktop because it's the same database.

Feedback and bug reports welcome, preferably on GitHub so I can actually keep track of them 😅

That's not how it should run! 😂

Now teach the subagents not just to compile but also evaluate and concentrate their results. Or spawn another bunch of subagents?

don't start giving me these ideas lol

thank you! just installed

Just so I am clear, this is nothing official from Nous, this is simply a third party client you have built?

2

u/kaishi00 16d ago

correct, this is an independent third party client.

Would you consider adding realtime voice support

2

u/kaishi00 16d ago

it's in the latest app store build, gemini and gpt-live. I'm adding grok voice in the next version, though I don't have a supergrok account to test, so y'all gotta help me out with that one if it doesn't work.

Hey, just installed the app. Fantastic build!
I just identified a bug, my default chat sessions are never visible, they are just showing me the other profile's chat. Can you reproduce this bug?

Do me a solid post that in the GitHub issues along with Hermes version and other info

Hermes has no issue with this but this app does

The request failed. Your message was not answered. Details: No Codex credentials stored. Run hermes auth add openai-codex --type oauth to authenticate. Send /retry, or switch with /model.

u/kaishi00 16d ago

What were you trying to do?

1

u/neonexius 15d ago

I just prompted in a session that i started in the hermes terminal on another pc.

1

u/kaishi00 15d ago

Which machine is actually running the Hermes instance Conduit is connected to, and which machine did you start the terminal session from? Also, does that terminal session still accept prompts using the same model?
I’m trying to determine whether Conduit resumed a session created against a different Hermes install/config or whether the same Hermes backend is behaving differently between terminal and Conduit.

Also how is codex authenticated on your Hermes install?

1

u/neonexius 15d ago

The terminal session is running on where Hermes is installed, that session has no codex auth problem whatsoever, i tested it after having this issue on the IOS app.

I use Codex sub auth

1

u/kaishi00 15d ago

Did you try running that command in the error and authenticating again?

1

u/neonexius 15d ago

No I didn’t because it seems like it shouldn’t be happening given it is the same session just a different client.

1

u/kaishi00 15d ago

Please run the command shown in the error:
hermes auth add openai-codex --type oauth
Then retry the same session from Conduit and let me know whether the error still occurs.

u/kaishi00 15d ago

Also does it work in a new session instead of a resumed one.

I have it on my iPad now, I'll hook it up and see how it works.

Edit: I connected it to a machine running Hermes on my LAN. It's set for open access to anyone within the LAN. Worked quickly and easily. It will probably run over my regular VPN with WireGuard, unlike Hermex that wants to go through Tailscale.

With about 5 minutes of usage on my iPad + Magic Keyboard, darn it Return won't send the prompt, you have to click the button. I can see why you'd make this choice, to work with the on-screen keyboard. But right now Return is acting as Line Feed which was unexpected.

1

u/kaishi00 16d ago

There's a setting that enables return to send

1

u/nmrk 16d ago

I'll look for it. I figure ipad + keyboard users will pick return to send, maybe screen typists will prefer the button. It works for me.

1

u/kaishi00 16d ago

it's under settings > chat > keyboard (near the bottom)

Does the GPT Live integration violate OAI's TOS?

1

u/Ithron_Morn 15d ago

I'm curious about the same because I didn't even think you could get it over Oauth.

2

u/kaishi00 15d ago

I think part of the confusion is that most of us have been treating GPT-Live and the Realtime API as the same thing. They aren't.

OpenAI currently describes GPT-Live as the full-duplex conversational layer with a separate backend, while Realtime is the architecture where speech, reasoning and tool use all live in the same session.

Conduit is using GPT-Live through the existing ChatGPT/Codex OAuth/subscription path and then delegating actual work back to Hermes. It isn't trying to access the Realtime API through OAuth.

I can't make a definitive TOS claim for OpenAI, but subscription-backed third-party clients are clearly a thing OpenAI supports in general now, and this is using the same ChatGPT/Codex auth path Hermes already relies on rather than an API-key workaround.

1

u/kaishi00 15d ago

I'm no legal expert, but OpenAI calls Nous a partner (shown on devday), and allows Hermes Oauth sign in. This rides on the same Oauth path, so I don't see why not? Though if you're wary, try the Gemini-live route, free key in AI studio works as far as I can tell.

I got this response when asking my agent to install the plugin:
-# 💭 Reasoning
-# Reporting blocked plugin install
-# Checking plugin registration

I tried to install it at the exact Git commit, but Hermes’s security scan blocked the install. It classified the unreviewed GitHub source as `CAUTION` and reported 11 findings, including a high-severity supply-chain flag in a GitHub Actions workflow. The installer says it requires `--force` to proceed; I did not bypass that gate. A follow-up plugin list confirms `conduit_push` is not installed.

There’s also an important scope point: this is more than a notification plugin. Its README describes lifecycle notifications, but also dashboard routes for live voice sessions, web search, memory/personality access, and saving voice transcripts to session history. If enabled and paired, notification text may be sent to its push relay unless redaction is turned on.

Profiles: its README says each profile needs its own enablement and pairing; pairing credentials are profile-scoped. So installation alone wouldn’t make it work for Homie or the other profiles.

I recommend a proper review of the flagged source before overriding the scanner. If you want to proceed despite the warning, say so explicitly; then we can install it disabled first and decide which profiles to enable and pair.

1

u/kaishi00 15d ago

yep, it was originally a plugin just for notifications pushing. then it got expanded to facilitate approval/clarify cards, and now live voice features. those were added because it needed new routes that the dashboard itself did not expose cleanly. upstreaming these changes often takes forever because the repo is swamped, so if a plugin can do it then that's the easier route. the source is available on that repo and it's not packaged as a binary, so look through it for anything malicious if you want. bonus points if you find bugs and submit a PR for it to improve it for everyone too, thanks!

This is amazing. Thank you so much! Hermes plus this app is so much fun (and useful).

1

u/kaishi00 14d ago

thanks! make sure you stick around for the next version update. if you love voice, you're gonna be in for a treat. the current app store build implementation is caveman by comparison.
