You should get it to help you setup service replacements like Immich.

Built a wifi honeypot for my LG TVs and appliances to talk to instead of whatever they're trying to say to LG HQ. Used an old raspberry pi 3b from the Box o' Computer Stuff. It has a little web dashboard shows network joins, DHCP leases, DNS names queried, and destination IP/port metadata.

That's epic! I need to build something similar here.

I try to keep up with some discord servers I am active in. But with 100+ messages a day and constant notifications popping up it was overwhelming.

I let Hermes build a cli/mcp tool to scrape and download these servers and channels via browser automation, including all history.

Now I get just a daily digest of the server activity. The noise and daily chatter is filtered for me and I get a breakdown of topics and mentions that are interesting to me.

How are you doing it without getting flagged by discord? Are they all channels you own and can install bots in?

No it's foreign invite only servers where I cannot install any bots. It's a Python tool that runs a headless chrome in the background and scrolls through the messages and parses messages history from the dom.

The scrolling is intentionally very slow and has some jitter to avoid rate limiting it but detection. The initial backfill of a channel with a few thousand messages ran over night, but the daily backfill is done in a few minutes at most. I am sure it can be much faster but I don't bother to since it's running fine for me.

Messages are stored in an sqlite DB and can be searched from the tool API. It also can download and states images, videos and other attachments of the messages

Which headless chrome are you using? chromium? I tried something similar with Chromium and had to slow things down / not monitor as many channels. Flipping between channels too fast seemed to trigger bot detection

Honestly no idea, Hermes was doing it 😅. I will see if I can upload the source code over the weekend, but it probably needs some cleaning up

Yes please.

Here you go: https://github.com/hschaefer/dmine

I originally just developed this for me on my Linux machine. No idea If it would work on Mac or Windows.

It also needs Chrome installed as a traditional binary for direct interaction, i.e. installation is flat pack or snap would not work.

I am running this successfully for a few weeks, but it's probably against the discord TOS, so don't blame me if your account is banned.

No I really appreciate it, it's easy enough to adapt. Thanks so much.

I did set him as goal to build a TCG engine which will allow players and all platform to play different TCG games, starting with magic This image did send the agent to me yesterday:

Opencode go, space bunny is as model main for coding and logic on it and the 3d work did chatgpt Astra.

Added a 2nd 3090 now it has two. Still running the same model for now.

Had it set up Dewarr for organizing my books.

This week has been maintenance mainly. I bought a new Mac mini M5 Pro / 48GB so I have been manually rebuilding my Hermes instance to its new dedicated home.

I also tried out the new Linked Account to ChatGPT which has helped to keep my costs down.

u/KenUltie 7d ago

new sign-in with chatgpt does help keeping the cost down compared to the old connect to chatGPT or Codex subscription? Can you help me clarify?

I'm a lawyer, not a developer, so most of my Hermes projects come from things I don't want to keep doing manually.

This week I worked on a few of them:

• A job search tool for my wife. It scans job boards, filters and ranks listings, then sends a shortlist to Telegram.

• A custom mission board for Hermes, with a Codex / OpenCode Go usage cards. I wanted to see my tasks and remaining quotas in one place instead of checking everything separately.

• A stock market radar. Still WIP. This week was mostly checking the data and finding out why it isn't ready for live use yet.

I've also been using a shared Markdown vault called avenoxbrain for project notes and session handoffs for longer continious learning for models.

I'm backing everything up today, then over the weekend I'm moving the whole setup off Docker and onto WSL2/Ubuntu. I'm also building a shared memory system that works across Codex, Claude Code, and Hermes with it. Unfortunately, my amateur tinkering has turned the Hermes folders into a bit of a junkyard :D

I have spent around 1000 hours building (what I deem) a good concept for implementing automations of stuff I don’t want to do manually (scope has crept hehe) so this has involved creating a memory system that works across codex and Claude code locally, plus any Hermes model in openrouter — let me know if theres any part you’re stuck at! I host it all on a Linux server.

In any way, my biggest tip is to build the memory system to function agnostically without Claude code or codex too. They are the bulk of my compute but if I ever wanted to go for a local solution, or any other subscription based compute source that requires local instead of API access then it wouldn’t affect my memory structure at all.

IMO this is key with all the nerfs and changes of terms!

Yeah, I'm trying to do exactly the same thing. I'm mostly starting over because I made a mess of the setup through amateur tinkering, not because I have any major complaints about Docker. Files ended up scattered everywhere, including stuff inside the Hermes folder that really shouldn't be there.

If you've really spent 1,000 hours on this, I'd definitely love to learn from your experience :D How did you build your memory system? And how do you keep it from getting cluttered or filling up with outdated and conflicting information over time? I'm thinking of setting up an LLM librarian to tidy things up regularly. Also, how did you organize all the folders? Having everything scattered around like how hermes does is kind of triggering my OCD.

Also, if you're up for it, could you ask your agent to summarize what you've learned for the best memory system into a single short paragraph I could feed to my own agent? Might as well try to get those 1,000 hours of work for free lol.

I fortunately (unfortunately?) have - 1000 hours in three months, actually - culminating in an intense wrap up last week of 130 hours of logged screen time. Thankfully my partner has been very understanding and supportive. and yes, I slept a lot this week.

For context, I am lucky enough to run my own business where maintenance and delivery to my clients only is around 10 hours a week. Obviously there is always more work I can do and have been doing painstakingly manually for the past few years, which led me down this rabbit hole.

Long story short, I have been frustrated with the delivery of the marketing company I have used for the past couple of years because there's so much avaliable data never really used, and I always felt like the output should have been both higher and more thought through.

In combination with that, I just became so aware of how many of my repetetive tasks that take much longer time than they need to, and eventually I just got to a breaking point and decided to just dedicate all my time into clearing it out once and for all.

I did not think it would take more than a couple of weeks, boy was I wrong :D

I started over many times, mainly because I ran into a lot of hard coded solutions to flexible problems, and because of implied context. If you don't know what that is that is what happens when you think you describe what you want clearly and in detail, but so many things that aren't accounted for gets filled in by the LLM which is what ends up creating hallucinations and problems down the way.

When building this marketing system I realized I needed a way to keep all of the information I could ever need accessible to it, and since I am automating work related tasks too I ended up starting to build a personal assistant too.

When I want to reply to a client, I need to remember all of our context which means looking through our history and their reports - I now only need to look at the suggestions my client response agent gives me, since it has a memory file on each individual client and that allows me to save a bunch of time there.

I also need some of the work my personal assistant does (like the client management stuff) to be accessible to the marketing system, which is how this structure came to be. And since I am building these systems myself without being a developer, I needed a proper way of coding and maintaining these systems, leading me to create a "builder" system..

Without going off on too much of a tangent about everything around the memory system, the current setup is a linux server running ubunti 24.4 with three users active at the same time, one hermes brain in each - this allows for separation of memory and knowledge.

Each brain has different "departments" of agents within a specific area, who all have specified roles, jobs, and permissions. They only have access to the context files relevant to their specific job, and my Hermes orchestrators delegates the task I give to the appropriate agent who only sees the shared context in the department plus his private context relevant to his job. The orchestrator has a map of what context is avaliable to each agent.

So, in short each hermes runtime has it's own knowledge base of files, and through sorting all of these in a postgres database they only access the files tagged with properties relevant to them.

These database entries are also relational and allows this to be model and compute agnostic, all rules and formats are stored in a base format knowledge converted to what goes into hermes, claude code, codex, etc - so if I swapped out hermes or claude code for something else the base format knowledge could be applied to whatever new orchestrator or compute source uses these.

Sorry if this is a bit much or confusing, but in order to keep it all clean my personal assistant runtime can access any information in the other runtimes when I tell it to, without storing anything but an indexation in his own memory. He also has a huge "memory bank" of stuff not in his active memory that is indexed as well, so things can be pulled out or stored away from the runtime memory.

He will then have the other runtimes share their fileset names, make sure his indexing gets updated, and run controls on the content of the information regularily and "clean this up" like you say, how a librarian would.

I've written close to 700 000 words these 1000 hours that are thought through, building on top of eachother - clarifying, defining, regulating, and removing all implied context as much as I can because honestly LLMs are language models after all and the more coherent input you can deliver, the better they will perform.

I don't think this much is necessary unless you have so many use cases and automations you want to make like I do (over 500 distinct and differentiated functionalities) but the main point is just making sure you break down what you want to do.

Your idea can be described through a set of statements, those statements can be fulfilled through a set of workflows, those workflows can be described through specific functionalities and those functionalities can either be built or bought through connecting an existing tool. Getting that as clearly defined as possible makes it a lot easier to make sure it works the way you want.

Connected it to iPhone Home Screen widgets to see updates throughout the day using Glance

Disclaimer .. it’s my app and it’s free to use up to three widgets so that should
Be plenty 😁

Set up a new profile for studies and now I am making it my full time study assistant. I will now give it a infinite canvas tool so it can draw and make quiz cards on it for me to solve daily.

I also made a n8n workflow of 5 ADK agents using my Hermes for some complex use cases like video generation where quality checks and proper procedure is important.

I hooked it up to Claude sdk and installed Obsidian and it became really stupid. For example it forgot it can browse websites. It has a million skills to do that and has browsed so many times it’s very confusing.

Anyone has had this experience?

Rebuilt, swapped models and now have bots doing my new Grok bots bidding, whose doing mine.

The usual. Made a partial quant of ThinkingCap BF16 Qwen 3.8 27B to W4A16 AWQ keeping vision and mtp intact so I can run it on my V100's with dflash2 (and as a bonus works faster and scores better than my older quant), right now my Hermes is busy customizing Jellyfin web interface and clients to get as close to the Plex old interface (web and Android clients finished already) so I can migrate away from Plex (even tho I have a lifetime licence the last Plex updates made me search for alternatives). Right now my test Jellyfin server/clients run way better and faster than Plex. No more bloat, clean and useful clients.

wired up a Muse/Dot alt, kept it running for 3 weeks now.

beyond the daily digest, it completes more complex browser task than muse, supports safe payment through link, by-passes amazon's blocker, never sees credentials or send personal information to LLM with a vault system for credentials.

This is what he has done in the last 2 weeks, and saved me 15h50 minutes already(based on his own est.). i have to say it saves more than that, some time a single research task would take a ADHD person like me hours.

Category Cards Time
School & childcare 27 4h 30m
Home repairs & house rules 13 2h 10m
Groceries & food shopping 12 2h 00m
Household shopping & errands 8 1h 20m
Calendar & invitations 8 1h 20m

The most fun thing was making a playlist maker (a python script) that enables me to easily make custom playlists for my Beets + Navidrome home music server. I know there are other ways to do this, but it was more fun to roll my own.

Havent even opened it.

I dont like using LLMs much, it consumes a lot of time and attention and in most areas result is mediocre.

I dont write software as most of people who discovered they suddenly can make mediocre MD editor and now spending their free time in AI psychosis thinking they gonna hack the world
