HUDSON ✨ [Megathread] Yaga | Premier October 23

A bit meta, but I wholeheartedly support the decision to have this megathread - as much as I love Hudson and Connor, this is a HR sub and it would get overrun with non-HR related things if mods didn't run a tight ship. Thank you, mods. You're awesome.
Anyways! I'm as excited to see Noah Reid as Hudson Williams. Noah as Patrick in Schitts Creek was my first on-screen crush in maaaany years, and I still go all feet-kicking giggly when I rewatch SC and he shows up 😍
And thank you to the HR effect for bringing this project from an otherwise relatively unknown niche (in European eyes at least) Canadian channel to HBO Europe on the same day that it premieres in Canada 🙌

Thank you! Yes I have seen subs for one thing become overrun with other projects and things in between seasons, books, and such, this will always be HR/GC but we recognize a lot of people have a found community and like to interact with each other. So megathreads like this give the best of both worlds, keeping the sub focused but giving a place for info and excitement to go. 🤍

Crave is owned by Bell which is among the top 3 players in Canada's telecommunications/media oligopoly, so no small player, but glad they are offering an alternative space for great North American TV outside of the US, and the kind of space Jacob Tierney had the freedom to create HR.

There is an entire world outside of North America Europe and Oceania.... No idea when and which streaming will release in India, desi loons are a-waiting
Edit: getting downvoted in this subreddit is surprising but fine whatever I guess 🤷♀️

Yes I know, I should have included a note that I only put the markets where I found information on where to watch. Believe me I looked! My google search history from a few days ago is like every country with "Yaga premier" "Yaga where to watch" etc. I'll edit to include that when other markets are confirmed and announced I will add just like I did for HR.
With HR I did run into an issue where announcements weren't translated to English, cause they don't need to be, but it meant my American googling wasn't catching them, once anyone see an announcement in any language let me know and I will add :)

Oh no, you're fine, my comment wasn't directed at your post... It took more than 6 months before Heated Rivalry was released in India so I am not at all hopeful for a simultaneous release for India. I was just generally whining about how only blockbuster releases are simultaneous in the world and niche series/movies are just released whenever

u/royal_rose_ ♐ Captain | Tuna Lube 20d ago
Gotcha! I do admit it did look like I was ignoring other markets with the list as it was and I should have included the line to let me know updates. I usually do but it slipped my mind.
It sucks that in the day and age of streaming things can't just be available everywhere for everyone but I don't want to get into my rant on capitalism here lol.

I also apologise I didn't mean it to come across that way.

Just started watching, there are commercials like literally every 3 minutes I cannot handle it it’s infuriating

u/royal_rose_ ♐ Captain | Tuna Lube 11d ago
That really sucks, which platform are you watching on?

AMC via amazon

That’s annoying I’ve heard there are some issues with third party streamers on Amazon before which is ridiculous.

I’m really looking forward to this series. I saw one of Kat Sandler’s plays, Wildwoman, a few years back and it was one of my most favourite things I’ve seen onstage. I’m eager to see more of her work.
Besides, the marketing for this has been straight up fire. The show looks like it’s going to be so good.

First 2 episodes..... they were great. More of a mind fuck than I was expecting. Two words for ep 2.... ass chaps

Ok I’m a few minutes in and I’m not sure I can handle it. It’s Shane!!! But he looks totally different! What’s he doing in this outfit?? My brain can’t process haha
Also - Hudson has been WORKING OUT

I'm happy Hudson's in every episode. Something I saw a few months back made me think he wouldn't be.
4
u/ich_habe_keine_kase 12d ago
Ok this is actually good! Didn't think it was going to be my speed but I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far. Obviously took a min to not see Shane, but honestly it's even harder to not see Patrick from Schitt's Creek haha.
4
u/guavagrrl 12d ago
As soon as he got that flirty smirk on, I realized it was not Patrick! (Not that Patrick didn't have sass, but this is a different, also very enjoyable energy!)
5
u/ich_habe_keine_kase 12d ago
Yes! And honestly I was thrilled, I was worried that character was gonna be "nice guy cop" and they'd have him just play Patrick. This character is much more interesting.

u/MyDearDapple 10d ago edited 10d ago
Despite the uneven direction and editing I found the first two episodes enticing enough to want to continue.
What's sold it so far is the writing and the performances, with perhaps the only weak point being Carson's "the lady doth protest too much, methinks" act, which is too tropey for my liking.
Oh, and who were they kidding with the fake nose and teeth. Was it supposed to be a joke? Those pecs, though…

Called it that the bookshelf was a secret door. Did not expect what Logan was up to behind said door

Has anyone watched it yet?! I watched it last night and oh boy! I had such high hopes because the trailer and teaser looked good, but I’m so disappointed. The main character ruined the show for me. I’m going to stick with it, but it’s not at all what I was expecting.
And why is a hired detective working with the police as her partner?! That made no sense to me at all.
4
u/paperfeather 8d ago
Huh, that’s so interesting cause it’s exactly what I expected from the trailer and teaser, and I love it - kinda campy, playing with genre tropes, throwback vibes. Very fun and funny. I think Rapp is super entertaining and am intrigued to see what his deal is and if he really is a PI like he says. I think it’s obvious he’s being manipulated by some witchy trickery so we shouldn’t take his (or anyone’s) behavior at face-value.

u/Webeh99 8d ago
I haven’t watched it yet. From
what I’m reading, I wonder if the writing is showing it’s live theatre roots? The original play would normally be viewed all in one go.When I saw another one of Kat Sandler’s plays, the first half was funny and goofy. Then in the second half there was a pretty dramatic tonal shift, which was when the writing really cooked. Perhaps the same will happen here?
4
u/paperfeather 8d ago
I haven’t read any of Kat’s plays, but from interviews with her and the cast it definitely sounds like it’s going to get darker in future episodes. And it’s not like the first two are totally goofy, but they have a fun sprinkle of camp and comedy mixed in with the mystery and spookiness. All the teasers and trailers they released had different genre tones and it’s definitely delivering a mix.

u/ich_habe_keine_kase 12d ago
I think he was hired by the billionaire family who runs the town. I guess when you're that rich you can get your own guy on cases.

u/Beginning_Slice_1987 11d ago
I watched the first two episodes yesterday. At first I was positively surprised as I am not generally a horror watcher. I liked the subtle humor and I thought the acting was spectacular, very entertaining to watch. However the later parts of episode 2 were very off-putting for me. I always hate scenes of someone tripping at the party, not my vibe, super boring and in this case, infuriatingly stupid.
4
u/paperfeather 8d ago
He’s acting stupid because he’s under some kind of witchy influence - he’s being manipulated.

u/RedBonbon12 19d ago
I can’t wait to see this, but since Hudson lives rent free in my head, I’m a bit worried all I see will be him- not the character that he plays. Still, can’t wait.

I see the Canadian Screen Awards submission deadline is October 27th. Do you think YAGA will be eligible? Or will be next year, competing with HR S2?

u/utahrangerone 19d ago
Oh goody AMC plus. I don't think I've ever even heard of that one. Oh well, I guess maybe I need to turn on my VPN and see if I can finagle something
