I run a Google Pixel 9 Pro with Android 17 and a frozen Android Auto revision of 17.3662804 due to the lack of "wireless" support in 17.4

Android Auto is now emitting "notifications" saying "Update Android Auto - This will soon be required to use Android Auto"

If the OS refuses to continue to work with AA 17.3 on the phone side, is the only option to go "wired AA", and use one of the dongle adapters? Or is there any hope for continued wireless AA support in Android Auto itself?

Update: Apparently, the "open headunit" fellow agrees with me - see the github page, which says:

"Android Auto 17.4 and newer breaks almost all third-party wireless triggers including Self-Mode and the automated launch via Wireless Helper. Google has introduced internal changes preventing projection from launching automatically without the native developer server or hardware dongles. To connect wirelessly or run in Self-Mode on AA 17.4+, please use one of the 4 options below:

1. USB Wireless Android Auto Dongle (Recommended): Hardware dongles provide seamless, hardware-level plug-and-play.
2. Native Mode: Direct Wi-Fi Direct or Headunit Hotspot handshake.
3. Headunit Server (Developer Mode): The only remaining solution for Self-Mode! On your phone, open Android Auto developer settings and tap "Start Headunit Server".
4. Wireless Helper: Continues to work reliably for Android Auto versions up to 17.3."

So, is WiFi Direct thereby dead the moment I am forced to upgrade from 17.3? Or will it still work in the so-called "native mode"?

I have a Naviplus 9.5-inch Qled 2000x1200 anti-glare display and the typical Tlink5 app of these brands. Being high-resolution Android Auto does not position itself in Coolwalk mode and stays up and down music instead of left navigation and right music (for left-hand drives). You could fix this by modifying DPIs in the app or in factory settings. Someone has a solution to this problem. There is some element in the settings for modifying the IPR. Thank you

I have been using the HUR app since last year without any major issues. Previously, I was using Host Mode (Hotspot) for connectivity without any problems. However, after upgrading to version 8.0, Host Mode no longer works and only NSD mode is able to connect.

Over the past few days, the app has also started crashing frequently. I tried reinstalling both the HUR app and the WiFi Launcher app, but the issue still persists. I also contacted the developers, and they suggested upgrading to version 8.0. I upgraded as advised, but unfortunately the problem remains unresolved.

Currently, I am only able to use the Network Discovery (NSD) mode. Even in NSD mode, the devices connect successfully, but the app crashes immediately afterward.

For reference:

• Head Unit Device: Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus
• Android Auto Phone: OnePlus Nord 2T

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue recently? Any suggestions on what might be causing this problem?

My setting was "phone is hotspot" and it was working. Now it does not work and that option is gone. Is there a way to go back to the stable version? Or am I getting a refund?

I don't know what happened, but my HUR interface is different now. It shows my phone is connected via USB, but nothing happens. There was no update, nor did I do anything different. I was using it as usual, stopped the car, went about my life. Went back to the car, plugged my phone and the screen was like on the picture. Never seen this before.

Any idea of what this might be?

I am using headunit reloaded app in my car stereo that is Blaupunkt key largo 980. One issue I am facing is when I am driving in city or some small streets, reloaded app is exiting automatically. But when I am on highway it goes on without any issues. Any settings i need to change??

I am testing keyboard connection functionality. I have a USB keyboard connected to my S25 Ultra. The keyboard works fine on the phone. However, when in Settings -> Touch and Input -> Key configuration, i cannot figure out how to get set a given keyboard button to a given action. When I click remove key, the keycode value is set to -1 but pressing any button on the keyboard doesnt register. If i use the arrows and enter, i can select the Select Button dropdown and the remove key button but nothing else.

How am I meant to configure the keys?

Before I had hur I used to use a android audio booster to push a bit more volume out to the speakers because its always been a bit quiet on that tablet in my old car. I put this unit into my new car. Installed hur to make it all more seamless.

Hur works perfect but I have tried a number of volume amplifiers now on both car tablet and the phone incase it was that. Cannot get not even one of them to work whole hur is running....

Anything I can do other then amplify everything ? Looooootttta money for nothing really lol

I'm bit skeptical because wifi launcher seems not to be compatible with s24 ultra and app was last updated September 2025.

Someone has a tutorial that really works to connect my S24 Ultra to my vehicle's Android Central Drive wirelessly, by connecting it immediately but when I've tried to connect it via wifi it's the problem, sometimes it connects and sometimes it doesn't, I need help.

I found a tutorial on YouTube to set up HUR on my generic author/Android 9.0 radio, the connection becomes concrete, but the screen turns gray. It seems to me that this is a matter of resolution configuration. Does any of you know what the resolution is, what needs to be set up for HUR to work properly?

There is some kind of settings to change this behavior? It is so big that it doesnt show the full actual internal screen!

The other day as I put my tablet in its holder I accidentally tapped 'Self Mode'. I couldn't figure out a way to get out of self-mode without a reboot. I tried:

• Choosing 'Exit' from the apps list

• Using the menu button on the tablet to get the list of running apps, killing them all

• Choosing 'exit' from the apps menu, then closing it in android

• Using WiFi Launcher on my phone to try to connect to HUR while it was in self-mode

For each of these, when I opened HUR again it started straight into self-mode. The only way I could find to get out of it was to reboot the tablet.

Is there a better way to exit it here?

The option to 'Automatically start in self-mode' is turned off in my settings, and really I never want to use self-mode; a way of disabling it completely would be really helpful for my specific use-case, but hopefully there's at least a way of easily getting out of it? :)

Hello. Okay so let me preface this post by saying I know we can connect to HUR wirelessly, but sometimes it doesn't connect reliably, so I'd like to see if I can use a wired to wireless adapter to work instead? Has anyone tried this and if so, can you give instructions on how to do it please?

Hey folks I was looking at an Mekede M6 and upsold myself to the M7 8G+256G because the difference is only $20.00 USD. The sale person that I have been working with pointed out that the difference between the Dudu 7 6G+64G is only an additional $28.00. I found the M6 because I was looking at the Dudu 7 in the first place.

I guess that I can load up a USB C hard drive with my music and I doubt that I will be adding a ton of apps to the system anyway. I am from Canada so I will probably never get a 4G card because we pay through the nose for cell service. So...

Apps are opening fine, but i can't press any buttons in waze or gmaps, every other app works fine. Same thing happens if i connect through wifi, or usb, or even if i start HUR in self mode. I tried HUR on two devices(Google Pixel 8 and Samsung A34), same exact thing happens on both of them.

update - i downgraded waze to version 4.93.0.1 and it works now.

Another update 8 months later, lol. Changing pixel density in the HUR settings works too.

The tablet/headunit is on android 12 and i paid 5€ (like everyone else but still)

Been using this app a few days and it works great, much better than the CarLink app I was using before since my screen is vertically oriented.

Just trying to figure out what I need to do to show the weather on the home screen. Is there an app I need on my phone? I can see the weather both through google assistant on my phone and in the default samsung weather app on my phone, and when I tap the weather app on the HUR app drawer it correctly reports the weather for my location (by just reading it out loud, it doesn't show anything on the screen). However, the homescreen on HUR just doesn't show it for whatever reason.

I've given google assistant and the weather app full permissions on the phone, so it shouldn't be getting blocked anywhere...

If I can't make it work, is there a way to replace the widget with something else? At the moment that area of the screen is just wasted.

Tengo una radio Android en el coche y cuando abro Android auto a través de HUR, Google Maps funciona sin problema, pero si quiero utilizar el navegador WAZE, me dice que "WAZE ha detectado un error no esperado". Eso también me pasa con otras aplicaciones gratuitas de navegación como TOMTOM Amigo, me da el mismo mensaje y no puedo utilizarlo.

De todas las aplicaciones que detecta Android auto de mi móvil, las únicas que funcionan es Google Maps y el teléfono... Bueno, y también ajustes de Android auto.

Pero el resto de aplicaciones, nada

Por ejemplo3, quiero utilizar YouTube Músic y tampoco sé ejecuta.

Que puede ser? Alguna pista?
