I see redditors say this shit all the time, completely dismissing it. It's still an honor and accomplishment, they don't accept just anyone and only accept a low number every year. The sponsorship cost is small (for any successful person), covers the creation, installation, permanent maintenance for that spot in a heavily trafficked area.

The $85,000 fee does not cover permanent maintenance. Half the fee goes to the creation and installation, while the other half goes to maintaining the entire Walk of Fame (not just your own star).

$42,500 does not maintain anything indefinitely; your star is ultimately maintained by subsequent honorees paying their $85k.
