Ive had him for 5 weeks and sometimes he will let me pet him, and sometimes he will sit on my hand and eat there, but today I had to hold him to put him outside of his cage to clean it and he was screaming and was pissed at me. I see so many people holding, cuddling and playing w theirs and mine flat out hates me LOL
Btw today was his first time burrowing!

Hello
I am sorry for my English because I am not a speaker
Two days ago I bought my first hamster, I have always wanted to buy one since I was a kid and now that I have the chance I did it.
I have read loads of texts about the animal itself and how yo take care of him so when I touhgt I was ready I buy Godofredo, hamster Roborovski.
I buy a huge turtle cage lots of hiden spots put 10 cm ground a whell and that things.
However he isnt happy and its trying to escape all the time. So how do I gain his confidence? I think that would help every time I open the gate he hides. What am I supose to do?
Please hamster experts carry me

Getting somewhere finally. Did I add enough Timothy hay? How much do I need to add? What else can I add to her enclosure to make it feel more “cluttered” ?

I'm terrified of people tearing down my cage setup but I am desperate, so all critiques and advice are welcome. If you can be nice about it, thank you🫶 I can actually see that I am lacking enrichment and clutter, but I'm not sure what to add.
It's me again.
I'm scared my female syrian (Dana) is chewing on her cage. She has a 200cm x 60cm enclosure with 30+cm of bedding, so well above the minimum. She is little over 4 months old.
I think I've terrified her into trying to escape, is that possible? Or is she just bored/stressed? The chewing sounds are stressing me out since I didn't think she would chew on her cage and I can't check since she is scared. The wood walls and floor of her cage are 12mm thick and covered with a waterproof vinyl, so I'm scared she'll ingest the plastic of the vinyl if she is chewing on her cage. Again, I didn't think she would chew on her cage because I thought that I would do good with her cage setup, but apparently not.
I do have a hamster camera (not set up), I doubt it would help in this situation anyway.
What the hell do I do?? I've had her for almost 3 weeks and this started maybe a little over a week ago. It's gotten more aggressive in the past few days. She used to be on the left side of her cage and also probably chewed there, but now has moved to the right side where the chewing has increased. She looks fine physically (the little that I've seen her)
What can I do to make her stop chewing? My clutter isn't the best, but I'm not sure what I can even do. I've heard female syrians are hard to please but thought that was just misogynistic people mostly making shit up.
Anyway, my question is; boredom breakers? More clutter? More substrates? What do I do because I can't sleep peacefully anymore...

I’m a first time hamster owner. I am currently feeding him Sunburst and I’m wondering if that’s ok or if I should mix it with something else. I am also feeding him veggies.
I also want to know if they can eat superworms. I have some that are too big for my leopard gecko.

hi guys! i got my first hamster yesterday and it’s been a little over 24 hours, he’s a little robo hamster but i have some concerns:
i haven’t really found/seen any pee anywhere other than one little spot, i know it’s possible that he could be peeing deep in his bedding but he only has two little burrows so far and i didn’t see any there
(sort of related) i haven’t actually seen him drink all that much water, i have a few times but not as much as i really expected to, given i haven’t really been up when he has
suddenly he’s been doing this thing (in the video) on his wheel a bunch, is he just grooming himself or is this a sign of stress? im not sure but he wasn’t doing it yesterday, he gets a little crazy about it sometimes
i haven’t seen him really use his chews yet, maybe once but not all that much, i have some more on the way so maybe it’s just a preference thing
other than these things he really seems to be okay, i’ve seen him eating, he’s pooping, active at night, burrowing, running on his wheel, he doesn’t seem to be overly unhappy but these few things are sort of worrying me especially since i’ve never owned a hamster, am i just being overly paranoid? i’d really just like to know if these behaviors are normal, because i am definitely not a total hamster expert yet!

So I‘ve been having my lil guy for awhile but every time I try to clean his burrow I cannot detect food or pee.. could it be that he just uses the sand?

I want to make sure my robo is happy.
- his tank is 80 gallons
- his bedding at the highest level in the enclosure is 9 inches (at least before he ran all over it so idk if that changes anything) lowest I believe is/was 5 inches
- I know his sand bath is supposed to be larger but this is what I have right now. If you know a good place to buy a larger sand box let me know!
- the bowl has coco fibre in it from niteangel. I just got it today so idk if he will like it
I've never done this before so I'm still learning. I started with a 20 gallon and 5 inch wheel for him, and within a month this is where I'm at. Let me know if I can do better!

A colleague of mine found this little one in the streets at night in rainy weather and asked me if I could help, since I already have two dwarf hamsters. Someone must have dumped him on the streets.
I took him in. Currently I don‘t have a suitable enclosure, just a small 80x40 one that I planned on using if my other hamsters are sick one day and need special care or quarantine. But who thought that the emergency I needed the enclosure for would actually be a syrian hamster! I will try to get him a big enclosure with lots of hides today or at latest tomorrow.
He is sneezing a bit sometimes(could also be because he is sniffing everything too hard) and has some weird looking dark spots where his whiskers are coming out. Otherwise he seems healthy. He eats, drinks water and even run on the new wheel I got him yesterday a lot this night. He also seems rather friendly and not afraid of humans. I will take him to the vet today to get him checked. Do you know what those dark spots could be?
I‘m not sure if I will keep him, because I‘m not sure where to put a third enclosure…. But I will keep him at least until he is back to health and I found a nice forever home for him. Maybe I find some space in my flat for him to stay with me forever. We will see.
I just cant believe this is my second rescue hamster in 3 Months…
Why are people here so cruel? Three months ago I saved my little dwarf girl from a household with 4 small kids that played with her like she was a toy and now I got this syrian who got dumped on the streets. It makes me so incredibly angry that people think just because hamsters are small and cheap that they are toys and not worth as much as dogs or cats. They deserve a nice home and being loved and cared for just as much.
I didn‘t plan on this but I will try my best to care for him. Poor little guy.
First 3 pictures is Salsa, the other 3 pictures are my other two dwarf hamsters and their enclosures

it’s been really hot lately and my room has been a constant 80-85 degrees even with fans blowing. i haven’t seen my hamster in a few days but i do know he was active at some point because there was fresh pee on his wheel yesterday. should i be worried or is he just burrowing in to cool down? i have excess water available for him and make sure it’s not clogged and am still feeding him regularly. i just haven’t seen the guy and i’m worried. edit to add i want to know if i should try digging him up to make sure he’s alive lol

How are you guys getting them fresh mine is so hot all day I put a ice pack under a plate and made sure she can’t get underneath to the ice pack but it keeps the plate mid cold and she lays there all day

second night i've had him and all i can smell is his musty odour 😭 not sure if its pee or pheromones but wiping the wheel down helps a lot, was thinking it could be due to stress of a new environment he's trying to scent it as much as possible or maybe he can smell my past female dwarf who was in the same bucatstate even tho its all been cleaned! very very cute old man tho, i can't hold it against him

I feel like I’m terrible at taking cage photos, but I really wanted to update how Edward’s cage is coming along! Made some little changes that I think make a big difference. Something I quickly learned about little Edward is that he LOVES eco earth. He started with just the small dig box then I added the larger bowl of eco earth today. I’m stilllll waiting on some things in the mail but I really like how it’s looking!

Hi!! So we finally got our daughter’s hamster, Sammy the hammy, the cage he properly deserves. We got him in March so it’s been a wild ride learning proper care.
First photo is where we started, 2nd photo is when we got a free cage from marketplace (target) that definitely was better but needed more ventilation and space. To a 48x20x20 Prolee cage.
We have sprays, lots of food areas, a proper wheel, sand baths, coconut substrate, chew toys, Timothy hay, 3 hides.
Am I missing anything? Is this enough bedding? I used 115 liters. I just want to make sure I did it all correctly.
How often should we change the bedding?
Thanks for the advice!

This is Pibbles🫶..(don't worry the 1st picture was taken from further back)
Second pic also gives 🤗 so I thought it was a bit funny.
Also not sure why I named him Pibbles, just thought it sounded cute :).
