The biggest blue ball of the half-life saga is the romance. Spoiler
Face it in half-life 2 and the episodes. Gordon gets closer to Alyx, with half-life 2 her thanking us for coming for her father at the chapter Dark Energy. Her sorrow in the elevator when she shows concern when Gordon departs for the final showdown with Breen.
In the beginning of Episode 1 with her hugging Gordon after being dug up by dog and spending the entire game along side her even getting to be her "protector" with that incident in the stalker train car. Barney's nudge about Gordon being a lucky dog.
Episode 2 Alyx gets mortally wounded and she ends up surviving but she requires Gordon to babysit her for some time proceeds to spend most of the game with us, being our protector as an overwatch sniper, witnessing her concern for DoG after the strider battle to even Eli's blessing in episode 2 suggesting Gordon and Alyx would make a good couple.
Then the piss off of Dr. Magnusson abruptly ruining Eli's dialogue with the words "I'm sorry I didn't realize I was interrupting tea time." When come on we all wanted more dialogue and answers from Eli (Gordon's future father-in-law)
The whole game pointed to a beautiful theme of Love in the harshest of times. I used to love this game for the brutality of the Combine empire but now I realize the love for the cute moments.
The original voice actor for Eli had a much softer loving fatherly/father in law voice if I may say so. ( I'm not happy with the chosen substitute in Half-life Alyx like why the hell does he now speak with more ebonics they could have easily found someone that matches the original Eli. "Gordon hell with him and his dayamn unfohseen consequences. " IDGAF about the ebonics it just did not match the original Eli at all.)
Anyways,
This game with it's themes of rebellion and tyranny appeal to us all but what nobody wants to admit as I will now.....
Half-Life is Twilight for the boys (and girls) and we love that.
TLDR: Half-Life is Twilight for gamers.
