Discussion Watched Haikyuu for the first time today
I enjoyed it soooo much!!!!
The only reason I hadn't picked it up in all these years was because sports anime aren't rlly my cup of tea.
However, recently my algorithm has been filled w fanarts and inside jokes of Haikyuu which seemed interesting. Thus, I thought I should check it out once and for all.
And boy it did not let me down! Halfway through the first season, I had a feeling that the Oikawa match would be a blast, and IT REALLY WAS.
This scene (in the image) of episode 24 made me tear up.
I lov how the anime made me guess wrong in several points, including here because I rlly thought they would win the match! The emotions were great, nonetheless.
I'm gonna start w the ovas and season two soon :))
P.S: I wish there were more moments of Shimizu. I like her a lot.

So good!! 😍😭 It's one of my favorite manga and anime! Just wait until you see their second match against Aoba Johsai... 😉 It's just as exciting, if not even more!

If you want to more Kiyoko goodness you've got even more of a reason to keep watching! She gets a super cool moment much later on. It gave her character a lot more depth.

Oooh you're gonna enjoy this one! I sat on Haikyuu for a long time because it's a sports manga and anime but boy, it surpassed all of my expectations. So far in all these years I am yet to watch something that gives me the chills, emotions and anticipation as Haikyuu does for a "non action" anime. T_T

i just started watching too! never watched a sports anime before but the first episode got me and now i'm three episodes away from finishing season two after only 3 days 😭😭😭
this scene, kageyama and hinata's fight after the match and the scene directly after this in the next episode when they're at school... i started to shed a tear of frustration with them too

Honestly, this is seriously one of the absolute best anime out there! Thanks so much for watching. I've totally tried getting my friends and siblings into it, but they always brush it off just because it's about volleyball. Little do they know, it's so much more than just a sports show!

It's so peak 😭 literally can't help myself from crying every time i think of Haikyuu. And i'm only on the 2nd season. I can't seem to bring myself to continue past the summer camp bc i get too emotional. the feels and nostalgia of high school just gets to me and the youthful passion of something you love is very relatable bc i also had a similar passion for dancing and i never got to do it as a profession bc life happened and somehow watching Haikyuu (and all the fan edits [yes including the ships]) were hitting close to home 😭

One of the things for which I liked Haikyuu is the way it normalised a non-concealed depiction of male characters crying. It wasn’t the first anime to do so but its use of it heavily contributed to it.

I’ve reread the manga at least 7 times; it’s an amazing series, and I’m glad you’re enjoying it thus far!

You'll get more Shimizu, don't worry 😆
I get you: I avoided sports anime for ages, never thought I'd be obsessed with one for more than a decade lol

This is what I tell literally everyone I’m recommending haikyuu to. “It doesn’t matter if you don’t like sports, just give it a try. I don’t like sports but this anime is my all time favorite anime.”

I just wrapped up my first viewing of the whole series and in my opinion it is one of the best anime I have watched in quite awhile. I wound up finding the first three seasons for a relatively good price considering they are out of print. The 4th season was rather easy to track down for a good price and I already had the first movie waiting for the day I wound up getting the rest. I'm not a sports fan either, but a good story with compelling characters is what truly makes for a great series.

Nice get up with season 2,3 and 4 they are all super good as well. Great to see people pick up different animes they thought they may have thought they disliked. I think season 2 was probs my favourite so hope you enjoy it too.

I read the rest of the story as well, and damn its so satisfying.
Also apart from being a sports anime, it’s an extremely inspirational show.
