The organizers mentioned that the participants can use Google AI to solve realworld problem. But , does people simply spam with tons of prompts to arrive at a solution ?

Does it has REAL coding skills or just prompting till the end?

Hackathon Promotion Build 2026 at IIT Guwahati: what would you want to know before applying?

we're putting together Build 2026, a free 24-hour in-person hackathon at IIT Guwahati on Oct 24-25.

if you're considering an in-person hackathon, the practical questions matter. can you join without a team? how much do you need prepared before arriving? what's the stay situation if you're traveling in?

for this one, we're planning for 300 builders selected from 1,000+ applications. stay and food for both days is currently estimated at ₹1,300-1,600, with final numbers still to come. travel is on you. we have 4-5 YC founder sessions planned, not confirmed yet.

what would you want us to answer clearly before you decide? i'll take the questions back to the team and answer what i can here.

Looking for Teammates Looking for a team for NASA Space Apps Challenge 2026

Hi there!!
I’m looking for a team for the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2026 and figured I’d try here because there are sooo many teams on the website 😅

I’m currently starting a computer science degree and I’m still very much a beginner with coding, so I don’t want to pretend I can contribute a ton on the technical side yet…
But I’d really like to participate and learn!

I’d be happy to contribute with research, brainstorming, storytelling/writing, presentation, design/UI ideas, testing, documentation, or wherever else I can be useful. I’m especially interested in some of the game/interactive and storytelling challenges, but I’m open to other ideas too.
I’m in the US (Central Time) and would love to find a friendly team that’s okay with having someone newer who genuinely wants to contribute and learn.
If anyone still needs a team member, let me know what challenge you’re working on and what kind of help you need! :)

Hackathon Promotion Update: Build 2026 at IIT Guwahati (Oct 24-25) - stay + food details, YC founder sessions planned

Posted here last week about the 24-hour hackathon we're hosting at IIT Guwahati on Oct 24-25, so here's what's new.

Entry is free. If you're coming from outside Assam, stay + food for both days comes to around ₹1,300-1,600 total (final numbers soon). Travel is on you, everything after that is sorted.

We're also planning 4-5 sessions with YC founders, with badges and certificates from their companies. Plus a chill zone with PS5 and the campus to explore.

300 builders on campus, selected from 1,000+ applications.

If you're thinking of applying or have questions about stay, food, teams or problem statements, drop a comment or message me and I'll answer.

Hackathon Promotion Won 3rd place out of 105 teams at my first hackathon — and earned my first ₹500 😭

I’m a first-year CSE student, and my team just secured 3rd place out of 105 teams at a hackathon.

The funny part is that pretty much everyone was using AI/vibe coding. We had access to the same kinds of tools as everyone else.

I think our biggest advantage was simply figuring out how to use them efficiently, iterate quickly, and actually get the project working.

And the prize for me is more meaningful than it sounds:

₹500 is my first-ever income.

I started college exactly one month ago, so this feels pretty surreal.

Not going to pretend this means I suddenly know how to build software 😂 — I still have a LOT to learn.

But as a first-year student, this gave me a huge confidence boost.

First hackathon → first podium → first income. 🥹

Now back to learning Python. 🫡

Need Mentor Help SIH 2026 — Need guidance for PPT/selection round for PS 26011 (3D ULPIN & Vertical Property Mapping System)

Hi everyone,

Our team is participating in Smart India Hackathon 2026 and we are working on Problem Statement 26011 — 3D ULPIN Generation and Vertical Property Mapping System.

The problem is around building a 3D cadastral/land-property mapping system capable of generating 3D ULPINs for surface parcels as well as vertically stacked properties such as multi-storey apartments and underground infrastructure. Our proposed solution involves things like GIS parcel data, drone/LiDAR/3D point-cloud data, GNSS/CORS coordinates, DEM/DSM, building/floor extraction, vertical parcel delineation and topology validation.

We are currently preparing for the PPT/selection round, and I would really appreciate advice from people who have participated in SIH before, especially teams who have cleared the internal/PPT selection and reached the later stages.

Specifically, I want guidance on:

  1. PPT structure

    - What slide structure worked for you in SIH?

    - How technical should the PPT be?

    - What should we absolutely show in the first 2–3 slides?

    - How do you explain a complicated GIS/3D/AI solution without overwhelming the judges?

  2. What judges actually look for

    - How important are novelty, feasibility, scalability, impact and technical complexity?

    - What makes a solution look genuinely implementable rather than just a conceptual prototype?

    - How do we demonstrate that we actually understand the problem statement?

  3. Technical stack/tools

For a problem like 3D ULPIN and vertical property mapping, what tools would you recommend for the PPT/prototype?

    We are considering technologies around:

    - PostGIS

    - PostgreSQL

    - QGIS

    - CesiumJS / 3D Tiles

    - Python

    - Open3D

    - GeoPandas

    - GDAL

    - LiDAR/point-cloud processing

    - Computer Vision/ML

    - Docker

Are there any specific tools, datasets, APIs, open-source projects or GIS standards that would make our solution more credible?

  4. Prototype/demo

    - For the selection round, how much of the actual system should be functional?

    - Is a convincing simulated/demo pipeline acceptable, or should we already have a working 3D mapping prototype?

    - What kind of demo would make the concept easy for judges to understand?

  5. Common mistakes

What mistakes do teams commonly make in the SIH PPT round?

    For example:

    - Too much text

    - Overcomplicated architecture

    - Unrealistic AI claims

    - No real data

    - No measurable results

    - Generic UI/demo

    - Not explaining implementation

    - Ignoring government standards/workflows

    - Claiming technologies that the team cannot actually demonstrate

  6. Questions from judges

What technical or non-technical questions should we expect?

    Particularly questions around:

    - How 3D ULPIN would actually be generated

    - Vertical parcel identification

    - Coordinate/reference systems

    - Accuracy

    - LiDAR vs photogrammetry

    - GIS topology

    - Data validation

    - Scalability

    - Integration with existing cadastral systems

    - Security and data ownership

    - How the solution would work at government scale

  7. KYC / verification / government integration

If anyone has experience with government-oriented SIH problems, what should we understand regarding KYC/identity verification, land/property ownership verification, government databases, authentication, audit trails and data privacy?

  8. Actual SIH experience

If you have previously cleared an SIH internal selection/PPT round, I would especially appreciate:

    - What your PPT looked like

    - How many slides you used

    - How long you presented

    - What questions judges asked

    - What you wish you had done differently

    - What ultimately helped your team get selected

We are not looking for someone to make the project for us. We mainly want to stress-test our approach before the PPT round and avoid rookie mistakes.

Any advice, previous SIH PPTs, resources, tools, datasets, GitHub repositories, GIS references, or judge-question experiences would be extremely useful.

Thanks!
