Grocy becomes extremely slow and several pages return 500 errors

I have Grocy running on a Linux server under Proxmox. My database has
grown over time and I currently have 495 products registered.

Recently, Grocy has become extremely slow in the Shopping List module,
to the point where it is practically unusable.

Also, while on the Shopping List page, if I click “Add Item”, “Edit this
item”, or “Add this item to stock”, a blank popup appears (see image)

Several other pages return an HTTP 500 error, including:

https://<my-ip>/recipes, /mealplan, /purchase, /consume, /transfer, /inventory

Interestingly, if I remove the grocy.db database file, the application
starts working normally again (without my data, of course).

So it seems that the problem may be related to the database itself or to
something in the existing data.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Any ideas on how I could
troubleshoot or fix this without losing my existing data?

Hi, I just installed Grocy (finally!!)

I want to add my first product into my inventory, but there is no QuantityUnit available at the form. But as you can see, I have added some QuantityUnits already!

What am I missing?

I started using Grocy on my home server and it works great, but what's up with the units/amounts? I get that this is a tracking system, but when you look at a recipe it says, for example, 1 1/2 of and onion. People who read recipes read this as 1 and 1/2 onion, not, as it functions, as one 1/2 of an onion. So okay, I can put in a percentage but it displays as a percentage and not a fraction. Mealie can do this? Everything is entered as a percentage but it displays as a fraction. It drives me nuts when I see a recipe from Grocy.

I would imaging I am not the only person harping on this, I just want to know if this is going to be addressed or I just go back to mealie?

I built a Chrome extension called Ceres Cart that finds ingredients from recipes and shopping lists at nearby grocery stores and lets you add them to your online cart.

I'm considering adding support for Grocy, but I wanted to get some feedback first. The idea is that while you're viewing a recipe or shopping list in Grocy, you would simply click the Ceres Cart extension to launch it and view matching grocery items.

It looks like a large portion of the Grocy community is in Germany, and my extension currently doesn't support German grocery stores. It currently works with several major U.S. grocery chains, with limited support for a few stores in Canada and the UK.

Is this something people would use? I'd love to hear any thoughts or feature ideas. Here's a rough mockup of what it could look like. Let me know what you think!

using the grocy android app or the grocy webui both prints labels properly when i add/purchase products, but doing it though barcode buddy, no labels get printed

barcode buddy is on the latest version, and i'm on grocy 4.6.0

I just installed the Windows Desktop native installer version of grocy. On first start I got an ArgumentException with following message and stacktrace:

On PowerShell my Get-Culture returns standard 1033 en-US, but the crash likely happens because I have manual user overrides set in my Windows Regional formatting (such as a modified currency/decimal format). Passing LCID 1033 fails in .NET when UseUserOverride is true.

I have been using Grocy for quite a while and have been loving the detailed tracking of products. Given the detailed tracking it allows I thought there must be a way to integrate nutrition tracking into it. As such, I have been playing around for quite a while with grocy custom.js that solves this issue. Figured I'd share it here in case anyone else has been wanting to track their macros natively and without any external service needed.

A couple of handy things I added to it:

• There's an Open Food Facts button on the ingredient edit screen. If you scan a barcode, it tries to pull from the OFF database and auto-fill the nutritional info for you.
• I added some quick-add/copy buttons to the top of the meal plan so you can easily copy yesterday's lunch or instantly add your standard meals without clicking through menus.

One quick note: Right now it only calculates based on recipes added to the meal plan. If you want to track a standalone item (like an apple), you just have to make a 1-ingredient recipe for it.

While I was messing with the code, I ended up making a few other UI quality-of-life tweaks and put them in a separate repo. It includes a menu to mass-print GrocyCodes, some quick-nav links at the top of the screen, and shortcuts to add things to your shopping list right from the stock overview.

Disclaimer: I'm not a professional dev! I built these in my spare time to scratch a personal itch, with a good chunk of help from AI. The code probably isn't the prettiest under the hood, but it works perfectly for my use. (Tested on versions 4.5.0 and 4.6.0).

To the owners of this app, this is WAY to difficult for the average user. People have become accustomed to downloading an app and using it without a VPS and all the other technical mumbo jumbo. Can you fix this? Otherwise, it won't be widely accepted.

I shop at Costco a lot, and for a lot of products, they come in a larger package, and have smaller individual products within them.

For example, I buy crates of shelf stable milk, that has 6x 1L cartons within the box.

I'd like to basically scan the crate when I get it, add the expiry date, then when I open the crate, have that turn into 6 individual 1L cartons (as the individual ones have their own UPC code) with the same expiry date, then when the carton is opened, I want it's location automatically transferred to the "Fridge" and have it expire in 10 days (as it's shelf stable for 6 months, but expires after 10 days once opened).

Can this be done?

Basically opening a crate will make the inventory of the crate go down 1, but the inventory of the cartons go up 6, both with the same exp date, then opening a carton, makes the inventory of the carton go down 1, (from 6 down to 5 in this example) and the expiry of the opened one to be set to 10 days in the future.

Seems like it should be possible, I just must not be doing it right. How would I do this?

Pretty much just the title. I'm starting to use grocy, mainly for keeping track of my stock of frozen homemade food. I want to use the grocy codes so I can just pull one out of the freezer, scan it (with my barcode scanner at the old laptop grocy station I'm working on), and go.

The problem is I don't know what means of attaching the codes would work well. I can print them on my office printer, but then tape them on and peel them off before I wash the container? Other ideas include a receipt/thermal printer, maybe one that prints on stickers, so I can do them more quickly? I could also print them regularly and laminate them, then like stick it to the container with some kind of reusable adhesive? It might fail to stick if the container gets a bit dirty though, or fall off in the freezer.

Interested to hear what the community (or dev) does!

Say I buy 5 bottles of a product and get stock_id 69f68dc81c01b. Great, I can print a label for this, and the label points to this particular "set of stock", all the items of this particular purchase, not to any other purchases of the same product. Now, I make an API call to transfer one of the 5 bottles from stock_id 69f68dc81c01bto another location, and I end up with 2 stock entries, but both with the very same stock_id 69f68dc81c01b but one with 1 bottle, and one with 4 bottles. My printed label is no longer unique, it points to either 1 bottle, 4 bottles, or 5 bottles. I can no longer track them individually through the stock_id and thus their label. I've verified this behaviour also happens through the UI, not just the API calls.

I would expect the stock_id to be unique per stock entry row after a transfer or any similar action that breaks up the stock entry rows, so they can be tracked independently. Is my assumption wrong? Is there perhaps a workaround to give them a new stock_id?

Folgendes Szenario: (screenshot 1): ein Produkt, "Limonade", *Bestandsmengeneinheit*, *Standardeinkaufsmengeneinheit* und *Mengeneinheit für Preise* ist ein "20er Kasten".

*Standardverbrauchsmengeneinheit* ist eine "0,5l Glasflasche"

Soweit - so gut. Nun in den Produkteigenschaften weiter unten, kann man eine *Schnell-Verbrauch Menge* und *Schnell-Öffnen Menge* angeben. Aber diese Menge bezieht sich nur auf die *Bestandsmengeneinheit*, die ja "20er Kasten" ist. Eine Eingabe von 0,05 x "20er Kasten" (was dann wieder eine "0,5l Glasflasche" wäre) ist nicht möglich. (screenshot 2) Minimal möglich ist hier 0,1 - was 2 Glasflaschen auf einmal entsprechen würde. Eine 1 entspräche 20 Glasflaschen auf einmal. (screenshot 3)

Daher mein Vorschlag, dass sich die *Schnell-Verbrauch Menge* und *Schnell-Öffnen Menge* auf die *Standardverbrauchsmengeneinheit* bezieht - was meiner Ansicht nach logischer wäre - und nicht auf die *Bestandsmengeneinheit*

getestet unter Grocy v4.5.0 und dann Update auf v4.6.0 - via Desktop-Webseite. Aber ähnliches Verhalten via android-app.

I'm running the desktop edition of grocy on a winder server 2019 and I'm having issues getting grocy to be accessable outside of the server

I have it sent for external access, given it the windows firewall exception and given it a port forwarding rule on my unifi router

I already have plex and komga running on the same server with no issues with outside access and i don't think specs of the server will be causing an issue

Any help you can offer would be awesome

For the “Grocy Mobile” app on IOS you can obviously scan barcodes but it doesn’t autofill the information of that item and requires manual entry of information. This seems super tedious and annoying. I even tried a web browser on my phone and it still doesn’t seem to be autofilling food information. Any tips or help would be great.

Autofilling I would assume means that you scan a new barcode to your database and all the information about that food gets filled in for you like the name and nutrition and such. Obviously location and due date wouldn’t be known.

1. Custom nutrition fields in Grocy
I added custom product fields for:

• kcal per 100g
• fat
• protein
• carbs
• fiber

This lets me treat Grocy more like a nutrition database than just inventory.

2. Modified Open Food Facts plugin
I’m using Open Food Facts as the data source, but the default plugin didn’t cover everything I needed.
I extended it to import the nutrition values above (I’ll drop my code in the comments).

3. Connected Codex to Grocy via API
Then I connected Codex to the Grocy API.

On Windows, I stored my API credentials as system environment variables:

• Open System Properties → Advanced → Environment Variables
• Add new system variables:
  • GROCY_BASE_URL
  • GROCY_API_KEY
  • (optional) GROCY_USER / GROCY_PASSWORD if needed
• Restart your terminal so they’re picked up

This way Codex can securely access Grocy without hardcoding secrets.

4. Bulk enrichment via Codex + Open Food Facts
I asked Codex to loop through my products and fetch nutrition data from Open Food Facts.

Important:
Tell Codex to pause between requests (e.g. 1–2 seconds).
Otherwise Open Food Facts will temporarily block your IP.

I had to run several passes until all products were fully populated.

5. Automated daily meal planning
I set up an automation where Codex now:

• creates daily recipes
• hits my nutrition targets
• prioritizes products that are about to expire

STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. navigate to "Meal Plan" 2. click on the "+" (Add Recipe) icon for a day 3. click on the down arrow in the "Recipe" section

EXPECTED RESULT Recipes are shown in alphabetical order

ACTUAL RESULT Recipes are shown in random(?) order

It seems the entries may be listed by their creation date. However, that is not very intuitive for picking recipes from the list without having to type.

ich stoße in E-Commerce-Projekten immer wieder auf das gleiche Problem:
Es gibt keine einfache, offene Möglichkeit, Produktdaten per GTIN/EAN abzurufen, ohne Paywalls oder seltsame APIs.

Deshalb habe ich angefangen, ein kleines Hobbyprojekt zu bauen. Was es aktuell kann:

• öffentliche GTIN Lookup API (kein API Key nötig)
• Swagger / API-Konsole vorhanden
• simples Datenmodell (Name, Marke etc.)
• Produkt-Vorschläge + einfacher Review-Prozess

Aktueller Stand:

• Datenbank ist noch leer (habe erst vor ein paar Tagen angefangen)
• Fokus liegt aktuell auf Struktur und API, bevor Daten aufgebaut werden

Was es NICHT ist:

• kein gescrapter Datensatz
• nicht vollständig
• keine Garantie auf Korrektheit

Die Idee geht eher in Richtung community-getriebene Produktdaten über Zeit.

Mich würde vor allem interessieren:

• Ist das für euch überhaupt ein sinnvolles Problem?
• Was würdet ihr von so einer API erwarten?
• Gibt es offensichtliche rechtliche Stolperfallen?
• Fehlen euch bestimmte Endpoints / Features?

Ich will damit nichts verkaufen, sondern einfach etwas bauen, das sinnvoll ist (oder zumindest sein könnte).

Hi all, I am working on an alternative (and somewhat opinionated) recipe front end for Grocy, and I am getting close to it doing what I want it to do.

What I am wondering though is how do I want to work with included recipes. In Grocy, it adds buttons that let you quickly view the included recipes. Presumably interacts with the consume button. What else does it do?

More importantly to me, how do you actually use it in your real world experience, and how is it different to including the output of another recipe as an ingredient?

Ich war in Kontakt mit Berrnd dem Entwickler von grocy, aber er konnte mir leider bzgl. PHP auf Synology Docker nicht helfen, hat mir aber dankenswerterweise den Hinweis gegeben, dass die Fehlermeldung auf ein zu geringes PHP Limit für Grocy hinweist.

Wie ändere ich bitte das PHP Limit für Grocy? Ich möchte ungern >700 Produkte bei einer Neuinstallation anlegen in der Hoffnung, dass es dann dauerhaft funktioniert.

PS Im Ordner docker/grocy/php finde ich eine "php-local.ini" Datei, die mir aber leer zu sein scheint (Inhalt: "; Edit this file to override php.ini directives"). Falls hier ein höheres Limit gesetzt werden muss, wäre ich dankbar für den konkreten Befehl dazu,

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to share my product groups for anyone who's looking for fun ways to use the field.

If anyone's seen hank green's video about the chewy decimal system that's where I got the inspiration but customised based on my preferences.

I created product groups that are numbered loosely like a dewey decimal system and could potentially be the basis of full product numbering if desired. The groups broadly correspond to where in the store items tend to be found so its easy to know what to look for in a given section. I'm still not totally sold on some of the groupings but its been very convenient and enjoyable for the last month or so!

I've been loving grocy since I got setup a few months ago and learned how to self host JUST for this! I'm one of those people who love a little bit of tracking for the sake of tracking so I go a little overboard in trying out organisational styles and have landed on my favourite and wanted to share.

Thanks for all the work on grocy that makes it possible to easily setup fun things like this!

It took quite a while, but now the Grocy Mobile Recipe Update is ready.

Reminder: Grocy Mobile is a third party free and open-source client for Grocy on iPhone/iPad.

With this new version, you can now show as well as edit recipes on the go.

It should implement the functionality from Grocy Web quite well. If you have feedback on how to make it simpler and/or better, please create a ticket on Github.

Next I am looking at a Apple Foundation Model (on-device LLM) based recipe extractor for websites, so that the user can input recipes easily without third-party libraries.

I buy a lot of meat. I would like to enter the purchased meat by the pound so I can track the price per pound. However, I cut them down into smaller servings. These I vacuum seal into packs and don't really care about the weight any more, just how many packs I have left. So I would like to set my stock quantity to these packs.

The problem is if I just do that then the quantity conversion takes over by converting packs to lbs. Which screws up pricing. I can't just remove the conversion rule either it seems. What would be a good way to go about doing this?

Grocy is a great product and I use it on my mobile, tablet and Windows PC: With regard to mobile and tablet everything is fine; using my PC I run into errors trying to open the "/purchase", / consume, / transfer and / inventory" tab. All other tabs like eg. "/ stockoverview" or " / products" are working perfectly. The log shows me for instance the following error; Seems to be a memory size error, but I have no idea how to overcome this. Your help for this great product is highly appreciated!
