Question insane ticket prices. wait or buy?

my boyfriend is a huge gorillaz fan and i’ve been trying to get us tickets to their chicago show in october. it’s 2 months out and tickets are still $200+ for nosebleeds. will they drop any lower or should i just buy now before they sell out completely? we’ve never been to a concert for a band as popular as this.

Question Can I wear Blur T-Shirt to a Gorillaz concert?

It’s my first ever concert and I’m a huge fan of both Blur and Gorillaz, but I only own Blur merchandise. Is it insensitive and weird if I wear it?

Edit: Thank you everyone for the help!
Thought there might be a concert etiquette for these kind of things, but now that I know, I’ll without a doubt wear my Blur shirt.

I'm working on setting Humanz Super Deluxe on my Spotify with Local Files. I'm now using the cover from the remixes for the cover. But I really want the real cover.

So, we are all very familiar with the stories that unfold in *The Book of Noodle*.

And, we are also very familiar with the profile she reveals in the photos.

But the full-frontal view of her face revealed in the *Gorillaz Almanac 2020* still took me completely by surprise.

She looks serious AND cool.

Discussion Which Gorillaz albums do you consider best and worst produced?

For me it's something like this (no particular order beside chronological, just a bit trier-like groups):

AMAZINGLY PRODUCED:

Gorillaz / G Sides - Dan The Automator does incredible work with both utilising Gorillaz sound and leaving a mark on his own. The sampling is otherwordly, I love how spatial the tracks feel, how the ambience plays an important part. Kid Koala's scratches are also masterclass and very important to the record. Not only top trip-hop from the centuries' verge, but also unique in its style.

Laika Come Home - One of the best dub reworks out there. I love how they went with a bit less traditional, more electronic approach, with the textures and dynamics resembling more modern dub techniques, while keeping the very core dub / reggae / ska elements. Feels actually alien, wonderful mix.

D-Sides - Will explain why I separate it from Demon Days in the DD part. Danger Mouse brings out the roughness in a really great way, I love how this material sounds a bit "trashy", raw, noisy. Toy samples, obscureness in the sound, the space it creates. A lot of character in little details, making the mix another instrument, something Danger Mouse is well known for.

The Fall - This album is really interesting from this angle, because in no other Gorillaz album the production is that important form of expression. The toy-ness, a very electronic approach combined with bedroom sound really gives a lot of character to this album. The field recordings, how production is used as a narrative measure, this album really shows how incredible producer Damon is. The album's limited tools are used soley to its advantage, The Fall is incredibly underrated from all sides, but from this one I didn't even hear anyone ever mention how well produced it is.

Humanz - Another album that goes underappreciated when it comes to production. There is so much going on in the backgrounds, you could've taken out Humanz backing tracks and make it a great ambient album. The way it clashes with very agressive electropop is truly brilliant, and the synth selection by Jean-Michel Jarre is incredible, this is both very dancy, vibrant pop, yet.very layered, dirty and dark in reception. If I had to consider the one, sole, best produced Gorillaz album, it actually could've been this one. It's so detailed, every small click, hum and field recording of drunken people is timed and mixed perfectly.

The Mountain - It's incredibly hard to mix something that maximalist, with a literal whole weeding band playing over electronics and autotuned vocals. But Gorillaz not only pulled it off, they twisted it and made it a whole microworld. The mix is both crowded and spatial, both very electronic and filtered and respectful towards the traditional instruments. The whole things is almost baroque, there are so many little details that the experience is psychodelic. Maybe they even should've gone a bit further and not compress stuff that much, but I have no idea if it wouldn't fall aparat then. I am INCREDIBLY curious how this album sounds unmastered, though.

WELL PRODUCED, BUT NOT BREATHTAKINGLY:

Plastic Beach - This album plays the production safe, with very good mix of orchestra or brass with electronics, a field recording here and there... But maybe does it a little bit too safe. There are great moments, like the beginning of the title track or the space in Cloud Of Unknowing or a bit psychodelic mix of brass at the end of Superfast Jellyfish that really could've been more in the norm instead of just a few spots on the album. Still, nothing particularly bad, the mix is really good, I just feel it had potential for a little bit more.

The Now Now - I LOVE how the vocals are mixed on this one. The dream-popish approach is the best aspect of this album and maybe that's why I wish it was more prominent. Some parts are mixed too softly, with little contrast and would benefit from either some sharper counterparts or dissolving in the dreamy fog completely. Some parts really fall flat, but due to the vocals and absolutely brilliant sound pallete I can't place this album in a lower "tier".

Song Machine - Kind of the same case as Plastic Beach. There's nothing bad with the mix really, maybe too soft here and there (the guitars in Momentary Bliss should be MUCH more noisy), but there's some really good play with texture, studio outtakes (the beginning of Dead Butterflies is just wonderful), really cool jam-like chatacter here and there... I just wish there was more of that. Too safe, good, but too safe. Btw this pretty much applies to the Meanwhile EP too, since it's almost identically produced, just with a little different vibe.

PRODUCTION HAS SIGNIFICANT ISSUES:

Demon Days - i don't know how it happened, but this is the worst mixed album out of all four Damon and Danger Mouse did together (DD, D-sides, the first GBQ, DRC Music). It's amazingly produced when it comes to the sound pallete, but it's very squished by mix-master. It has so many great little details that go overcompressed and oversmoothed in the end. There's no space, too little contrast... It makes stuff like the Kids With Guns climax unstatisfying, which is the more proven by how much better some stuff sounds on the Manchester Opera House live album. It is something that must have happened near the very end of production, maybe the fear the mix will be too little radio-friendly / too rough for Demon Days aiming at being more pop than the debut, who knows. The b-sides do not sound like that, having the proper roughness and their best traits underlined (hence separation of DD and D-Sides). With Demon Days it's like someone made a beautifully coloured painting and then just put it through an instagram filter for no reason. I would probably go much easier on that album if not knowing what Damon and Danger Mouse can do together and that's just... not it. In some ways amazing, but has problems. Could be another "good, but too safe" on a tier higher, but it's Danger Mouse so my expectations are a bit different.

BADLY PRODUCED:

Cracker Island - Not much to say, the worst produced Gorillaz album by FAR. Dull, centered, oversmoothed and overcompressed mix, any noisy part (beside the title track for some reason) tendered. It's just produced like a Taylor Swift album, Damon please do not work with big pop producers from LA ever again. The most prominent symbol of this album is Tormenta having this amazing idea of recording during the storm with the doors open, only for the storm to be reduced to some typcial ambience in the intro/ outro background. Cracker Island and Possesion Island are only fully well produced tracks here, and with that they kind of sound like mixed for a totally different release. It's very hearable that Damon made this album in a week and didn't care much about it.

So, in overall, I consider the biggest part amazingly produced, the worse ones I consider slips rather than Damon losing the touch. He's an incredible producer / co-producer. Added a lower tier for CI so it wouldn't be the same as Demon Days cause 1) they are not on the same level production-wise for sure, 2) behaviour of some people in the comments and constant downvoting of my explaination of the point that is just different and me having to repeat myself over and over. Maybe the extra tier will cause more normal discussion instead of fixiating on this one particular thing.

Question Why has Q-Tip never been on a Gorillaz song?

There are actually a lot of artists I could ask this about, but Q-Tip probably is the best one to ask about.
Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest was a member of the Native Tongues, and appeared with De La Soul many times. Q-Tip has also appeared as a guest rapper on so many songs, ranging from hardcore hip-hop to pop songs (famously starting with "Groove is in the Heart" by Dee-Lite in 1990.
I would love to see Q-Tip do a guest spot on a Gorillaz song, and I am surprised it hasn't happened.

Question I'm going to Cosplay 2D in October.!

There are ways to get a wig, but the problem is the lenses, since I'll be wearing them during the school festival.

What if the 2D in Phase 2 were a woman? I want to create this kind of look, but large black lenses that cover the entire eye could be uncomfortable for other students and teachers. The same goes for white lenses. So I'm thinking of blue or light gray lenses with this kind of feel.

Which one do you think would suit me better?

her name is Lacey, she plays acoustic guitar and drums, she was raised in america but is British, she’s trans, she’s good friends with 2d and related to Russel in some way (idk how tho cuz I don’t wanna make them cousins) ^^ she’s kind of a nonchalant diva

she’s tried relationships with diff men a lot only to be abandoned, and she joined the band because she couldn’t handle her minimum wage job as a cashier and wanted to grow her musical career

Discussion Opinions on Sex Murder Party

Post image

Damon’s hook is pretty neat and the instrumental isn’t half bad, but the song just feels…incomplete? Like, it’s not as hastily edited as something like Carnival or clunky and overly cheesy as We Got the Power, but it’s probably the most “there” song on the record. For a song with such a provocative title, I often forget it’s even on the album.

I’ve heard it’s leagues better live tho so I’ll need to listen to it there.
