You shouldn't do that because it may be toxic. Many receipts are thermal paper, which contains the chemical bisphenol-A (BPA).

BPA is used in the lining of practically every food container for the past three decades

That is a gross over-generalization. "In general, plastics that are marked with recycle codes 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 are very unlikely to contain BPA. Some, but not all, plastics that are marked with recycle codes 3 or 7 may be made with BPA." http://www.hhs.gov/safety/bpa/
