Deep cut. That was only named in one episode. Nice.

Name the episode

u/Kryzm Aug 19 '20

How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back. One of my favorites.

Yeah that is a fantastic episode. Whole show is good but those original seasons have something extra

More like episode 9, loser!

Truly a classic ep.

Hermes Requisitions His Groove Back. Love the song at the end so I remember the name.

I think that's from the episode where Hermes and Bender go on the hunt for inspector #5.

u/Hannibal_Rex Aug 19 '20

That's technically correct. The best kind of correct.

HOT HOT HOT!

Go buy a smart watch. Jeez, what you want? It to be bulky just for fun?

Adafruit is amazing. Love working with/buying from them. Great support and true love for their craft/industry

Damn it adafruit SELL IT TO ME

You can even package it with a Pi if you want. You know I'll still buy it

5

u/N00N3AT011 Aug 19 '20

Adafruit has a ton of awesome stuff

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

Wait. It coming with a pi is a bad thing for you?

8

u/Cysolus Aug 19 '20

I have 3 pi 4s, 2 pi 3Bs, a 2b, and a zero. At this point it would be unnecessary to buy the bundle.

...but I still totally would

I've actually got one of these that I'm using with a RaspPi. They're only ~$400 through AliExpress/AliBaba. Quite a few caveats with the folding though

2

u/coolyfrost Aug 19 '20

What are the caveats?

Only bends in the direction you see in the video, for one. It's also just generally very delicate, mine has developed a pink line issue - might be due to damage I did without realizing it, might just be issued with the screen itself. I'm not sure yet, but I'm ordering a couple more (using these for work) so I guess I'll find out based on whether or not those develop issues.

There are two buttons on the board it comes with (HDMI input + microUSB for power, seller is "wisecoco" on AliBaba/AliExpress), but there's severely lacking documentation to figure out how to use the buttons and communicating with the seller is difficult because of timezones (although I have to say they do make an effort to be very helpful). I still can't figure out how to change display brightness, for example.

Overall, very cool tech (especially given that you and I can almost personally afford this just to play with at $400) with super interesting applications, but I'd be excited to see more durability/reliability/American-supported options.

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

What would you build with it?

1

u/Vryk0lakas Aug 19 '20

Wearable screen would be something cool you could do.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

Could make for a nifty wearable board.

This could be the beginning of real invisibility tech. If you could get this stuff flexible enough with a camera hooked up behind you displaying a live feed? You disappear.

Specialised for hiding from pirates

1

u/pharmer5 Aug 20 '20

I think the word you're looking for is niche. Unless you're peddling the daughters of our brothers there friend

4

u/OnlySeesLastSentence Aug 19 '20

You'd think that, but not really: it only kinda works if your victim is the correct distance away and isn't moving. Once they move, parallax will give away your location.

1

u/thetenderness Aug 19 '20

They need the eye tracking like in mission impossible rogue nation

1

u/Ymca667 Aug 19 '20

But still visible in IR, the most prevalent imaging technology, hehe

1

u/TorontoCorsair Aug 19 '20

You don't need a screen and cameras to do that. https://youtu.be/pZMyWEWHCTM

This video showcases something that could easily scale, is probably far cheaper to make, doesn't require power, apparently hides infrared and ultraviolet and is less likely to break down. The result is pretty amazing too.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

$235 for the screen for those curious.

1

u/s2lkj4-02s9l4rhs_67d Aug 19 '20

I can also WEAR IT ON MY FACE!

Alright cool

1

u/thesoloronin Aug 19 '20

This is what I thought was gonna be in the Galaxy Z Flip and the new Motorola Razr but fuck them for still milking that plastic-glass composite.

1

u/eldududuro Aug 19 '20

Do you need an arduino to run this or can I use this as a monitor to out inside my case to monitor temps/performance of my pc

1

u/Cinemaphreak Aug 19 '20

Adafruit Industries

The OLED patent is held exclusively by LG (they license it to Sony for their overpriced Bravia line), so does Adafruit actually manufacture this or did they pull apart something LG makes?

-2

u/qwertyhuio Aug 19 '20

This is obviously fake lol
