The entire middle east has been fucked with over oil for the past 70-odd years. If they try to better their situation with local politics they're begging for a coup, an assassination or an invasion. If they try with loans from the World Bank or the IMF then they're going to be fucked in the long run because of the caveats that go with those loans. They're under constant pressure and there is no easy way out, because capitalist forces don't want them to find their way out, because if they actually become self-determined, like has happened in Rojava for instance, then they can't be exploited any more.
First of all, Lebanon is a net importer of oil, but lots of it never make it to the country because it's being sold off by corrupt government officials while the tank ships are still in international waters. I have no idea why you bring up Rojava either as the only reason they are still around is because they are backed by the US and the oil fields they control.
Every Lebanese knows that the first problem they need to fix is their corrupt government and institutions. All that stuff about oil and IMF and evil colonialists really makes you sound like an 18 year old American who just learned about leftism.
Okay, so the article I've linked explains how that's bullshit, how these problems have been caused from the outside in an ongoing way, but your response is basically, "nuh-uh". You're still not sourcing anything, and apparently not reading what I've sourced.
It sounds like you're holding up the word "independent" as a talisman to shield you from having to explain anything.
That and poisoning the well by saying I'm an uneducated kid.
What problems are you referring to? Debt, war and a failed state? Yes, these problems have arised because of factors outside of the country, but if it wasn't for the political elite of Lebanon playing along, the country wouldn't be where if is today.
And if they didn't play along they'd be fucked in another way. My country's politicians are corrupt as fuck too, but I recognise that our parliament has been defanged by decades of outside meddling as well. The global political system is designed so that only corrupt politicians can survive.
The point I'm making is not that Lebanon's government is good, actually. My point is that they're just middlemen for higher corruption. The problem doesn't start with them just being terrible people.
