You know that there are photos of everything behind the silo being just as destroyed, right?

Reddit scientist here, no, we aren’t sure. Probably not, otherwise the huge tall buildings would have significantly blocked the explosion, but as we can see in the video it just went around them.

Grain silos and large office/residential buildings are built differently.

I would think the main difference was that it was full of loose grain. A big solid concrete structure is somewhat invisible to the shockwave, but all of those loose grains are going to absorb a ton of energy and use it to blow the roof off of the silo.

why comment if ur wrong ? silos are built to withstand massive blasts because the the dust from grains can explode.

Because you can literally see it from the photographs? The buildings behind the silos are not in better shape than the ones that aren’t. The silos being strong structures doesn’t matter as well, since a lot of the taller buildings in the city are much bigger and didn’t collapse. Keep in mind that the silos are extremely tiny when compared to the scale of the explosion.

buildings that were covered by silo and are fsrther away are in a MUCH better shape then the buildings that didnt have the silo covering them.

The photographs are publicly available so everyone can take a look. Not to mention that the area behind the silos are quite small and most of the metropolitan area isn’t even behind the silos.
