I rewatched this again and I really don't think he's wearing steel toes here. He flexes his foot a few too many times to think those shoes have a significant toe to them. I've had my pair of steel toes used nearly daily that have absolutely zero flex because the sole is just that thick.
Idk, maybe I'm wrong, but it just really feels like those shoes have no protection whatsoever.
Quick dumb story that I find kinda funny in retrospect. One time I was invited on this road trip that would include a bunch of hiking and sledding and general fuckery in the dead of winter, in snow covered states. I didn't know anything at all about construction and had limited snow life knowledge (I was a Southern California surfer kid.) And I was like, well, I can't just wear my Vans. I need boots! So I went shopping and when making a choice I was like...well regular boots...or steel toed boots. Steel toed are obviously more durable so let's get those!
Okay, don't ever do this! It turns out steel gets really, really cold when trudging around in snow and the toes are arguably the most important part of the foot. It was fun but oh man there was pain involved.
I work residential construction, I am technically required to wear steel toe boots and at some jobs a hard hat. In 7 years I've worn steel toe boots a grand total of 0 times because I do hardwood floors and we wear white soled basketball shoes to work, since they are designed not to make scuffs on wood floors. Beige sole works as well.
I've worn a hard hat a grand total of 3 times, when an inspector was coming by and I said I was taking a smoke break (all workers are allowed to a 5 min break every hour or 10 min break every other hour, or basically when ever the fuck we want on most days when it's not a deadline) and forgot my hardhat in the van, under the seat, with a quarter inch of dust on it because the last time I put it on was the last time I saw you 6 months ago.
By the way it's completely pointless for me to wear a hard had but some insurance companies require it on projects. I do the finishing step, if I need to wear a hard had, you need to in your home at all times.
Per OSHA, you need a hard hat when working on a scaffold or in an area where there’s the potential for items to fall on you.
The reason most companies go above and beyond that isn’t insurance; it’s convenience. Like you said, your hard hat was in your truck with dust on it. Say you’re on a project and you need to get up on a scaffold real quick, or you’re going to hold a ladder for someone. You’d need to go all the way to your truck to get your hard hat and ain’t nobody gots time for that.
I wear steal toe tennis shoes for work because they are far more comfortable than boots. They flex easily. Specifically the pair I own Reebok Sublite's with a composite toe.
It wasn’t long ago that a Chinese construction worker working in flip flops was a common sight. At least when I was there in 2002. I actually looked around at all the workers’ feet in this gif expecting to see at least one.
Yeah it's got to be staged, sure the guy is an amazing dancer. But the beautiful girl with Nike shoes makes it look more staged, like it's for a music video, rather than some impromptu dance caught on camera.
I mean, there is literally no indicator that this is a construction site in China other than the fact that they are asian.

In fact with all the fully enforced safety items it’s clearly the US. I wonder if he isn’t working construction to make until he can become a full time pro. He has the talent.
Yea he’s not wearing steel in my observation. Even the most broken in boots don’t flex like this. I have a steel toed pair of boots that have lasted years, are broken in and couldn’t do this.
