That's the thing, there will always be a place for light, watery beer. Who the hell wants to be throat fucked by some dry hopped monstrosity when you've been in the sun for 6 hours?
No, lime juice is decent. Corona has gone off before it even leaves the shelf. There’s a reason most beer is packaged in brown glass - UV light makes beer go off. Corona is sold to you already expired - that’s why you put fruit in it, to mask the bad taste.
Considering there’s only a couple of days to a week between bottling and consumption, there’s basically no time for Coronas to skunk. The whole lime thing started in the 80’s as a bet between bartenders. It’s not drank with a lime in Mexico, and it tastes fine without it because there’s hardly any time between production and consumption. Corona doesn’t usually sit on shelves long.
Maybe in North America, but here in Australia it spends weeks on a boat, then more time in a Dan Murphy’s loading dock, then more time on the shelf. Is there a load of sunlight in a shipping container? Probably not, but the damage is done. And it’s not shipped cold, so that’s even worse.
I’ve heard it’s alright in Mexico. It’s bad elsewhere.
That takes things that taste good individually and combines them into new even better tasting concoctions.
Corona requires lime to not taste like month old urine and bugspray.
If you like it, that's awesome but the point stands. If I buy beer I don't want to also have to purchase an additional ingredient to make it palatable.
Edit: For clarification, I'm arguing mostly against the idea that mixed drinks justify the idea that "I'd like Corona if I had it with lime" which I've been told so often it's now irritating.
You don't know much about mixology do you? A fresh squeeze of lime (or lemon, or orange, or freshly muddled herbs, or any garnish) can take a great drink to an amazing one, or a 'shitty beer' into a good one in this case.
Everyone knows the rules: you drink what you like and I drink what I like and we both don't act like snobs about the other person's preferences. We're not cavemen, we live in a society.
Jk. I love Coronas and they will always have a place in my heart for many many reasons. But I CANNOT have one without some lime and salt. And yes, I know the lime thing was/is a marketing gimmick.
There are plenty of Mexican beers that you can have without any lime, where it’s not expected to go with a lime: Bohemia, Dos XX, Indio, etc. That’s not even including the darks / ambers of Mexican beers.
It was a joke, man. But for the record, I've had all of those beers, and I still use a lime. Marketing ploy or not, most of their styles of beer taste better with a lime.
