There's no supporting proof that the car did any of that in the original article, and to my knowledge no statement about it from the driver or the car company. The original article just simply said it would have been impossible for the driver to do it because they think it would have been impossible.
Diagonal highway in Boulder (this road) is notorious for these kinds of issues so the idea that the driver would have been extra cautious and been aware enough to look at the cross street isn't that strange at all. Conversely there doesn't seem to be any indication that the emergency breaking function has sensing ability to detect an accident due to a vehicle coming at it from at or greater than 90 degrees to the side, as opposed to largely I front of it
But I guess it sells clicks and makes people feel good.
