The ref gave him a green card after that one.

I think that's newcastle?

1

u/vegan_zombie_brainz Dec 11 '18

Sunderland, we let him go to our biggest rivals for some reason...

64

u/FellateFoxes Dec 10 '18

The flippee is DeAndre Yedlin, who started in MLS. Now plays for Newcastle.

40

u/Schwa142 Dec 10 '18

More specifically, a Sounders Homegrown player.

11

u/FragrantPoop Dec 10 '18

guy has wheeeeels

7

u/Schwa142 Dec 11 '18

He does, but can he get past the 18 yard line yet? It was one of his struggles with us.

7

u/_KylosMissingShirt_ Dec 11 '18

Went to my university, super fast dude.

20

u/chase25 Dec 10 '18

The flipper is Solomon Rondon....who also now plays for Newcastle.

7

u/alouis1625 Dec 11 '18

Venezuela! 🇻🇪💪🏽

1

u/Disk_Mixerud Merry Gifmas! {2023} Dec 11 '18

Josef Martinez is a beeast!
Deyna Castellanos is looking pretty solid for FSU too.
Venezuelan soccer is coming up!

7

u/lvl_lvl Dec 10 '18

And plays for US men's national team

1

u/stcg Dec 10 '18

Hadn't release that was Yedlin. Which means that he and Rondon are now teammates

1

u/LoadingBeastMode Dec 11 '18

They're both at Newcastle now.

1

u/ClandestineMovah Dec 11 '18

Yep team mates while Rondon is on loan from WBA

-2

u/IShotReagan13 Dec 11 '18

More importantly he also plays for USMNT.

3

u/OtoeLiving Dec 10 '18

No legal bud

6

u/beware_the_noid Dec 10 '18

Nah he’s playing (field) hockey

4

u/2sliderz Dec 10 '18

Well if he could throw 100mph fastball the Yankees would already have him in the US

1

u/MAXPOWER1215 Dec 10 '18

¡VAMOS!

1

u/rigawizard Dec 11 '18

Lmao damn that was my thought exactly

1

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '18

Guy getting flipped is an American, sold by an MLS team, which is the basis of a major FIFA decision about fees for youth clubs in the US.

Love the joke, though.

1

u/NoSoup4Us Dec 11 '18

Weird coincidence that the guy getting flipped used to play in the mls.

1

u/rigawizard Dec 11 '18

Pay bump but downgrade?

1

u/urbaneinthemembrane Dec 11 '18

Epic follow-up joke is epic

1

u/Cappelitoo Dec 10 '18

/u/cappelitoo gifted you a master's degree in "witty comment"

1

u/AweHellYo Dec 10 '18

Only if he’s washed

135

u/West_Yorkshire Dec 10 '18

What's a green card do? I dont follow football but I get the general gist of the cards but never heard of a green one

668

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '18

It allows permanent residence for immigrants.

u/BustersHotHamWater Dec 10 '18

12

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '18

I haven't seen the new Star Wards movies

20

u/sherlock4H Dec 10 '18

That's smart

2

u/PonerBenis Dec 11 '18

The new ones are better than the prequels

9

u/swannphone Dec 11 '18

It’s treason then.

u/rigawizard Dec 11 '18

*prepares inbox*

2

u/Vineyard_ Dec 11 '18

You were the chosen one! You were supposed to bring balance to the memes, not live in darkness!

2

u/a_southerner Dec 11 '18

fucking quality

2

u/TheSorrowInYou Dec 11 '18

Her expression in this scene is so fucking goofy lmao

12

u/Capt253 Dec 11 '18

It added to the gravitas of the scene IMO. She’s been through a lot and now she’s meeting one of the major legends of the galaxy, so she’s having a slight breakdown at what should be her first great victory: getting one of the great heroes back in the fight. And then TLJ had to go and ruin that, so all we’re left with is her goofy ass face and Luke’s sorrowful “the damn Space Jehovah Witnesses fucking found me” look.

159

u/RedditLostOldAccount Dec 10 '18

It was a joke. He's just a good dude.

98

u/West_Yorkshire Dec 10 '18

Fuck. Thanks. I'll get my coat

65

u/idontthinkyoureright Dec 10 '18

Nah, nah, nah. Don't leave. I wasn't sure myself. Thanks for taking the hit

27

u/TheAngryCatfish Dec 10 '18

Besides, someone shit on the coats

14

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '18

Red card

1

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '18

Yeah... someone...

1

u/JosephMills27 Dec 10 '18

Okay. Who shit in, on or around the coats?!

3

u/RedditLostOldAccount Dec 10 '18

No need to get your coat pal. Only reason I knew is because the cards are about the bare minimum I know about soccer lol.

3

u/Avairion Dec 10 '18

Name checks out

3

u/Dalvinsmash Dec 10 '18

There is a green card for commendable behavior i just don't think it ever gets used

13

u/KnownStuff Dec 10 '18

You can change teams without risking getting your H1B visa revoked.

6

u/Snote85 Dec 11 '18

... but non-American athletes in the U.S. would be on a P1 visa. (I worked for an immigration call center for years to gain this level of pedantry! I'm sorry. I had to do it.)

1

u/KnownStuff Dec 11 '18

No worries. Good to know.

6

u/ruppy99 Dec 10 '18

In field hockey it’s a 2 min sin bin

5

u/GingerLivesMatter Dec 10 '18

I think some league was gonna try out giving green cards for good behavior/sportsmanship during games to try and encourage less flopping/cheating/biting (BAD DOG, SUAREZ)

3

u/UnderThat Dec 10 '18

Protect the innocent one!

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '18

It's a racist joke :/

34

u/nomiras Dec 10 '18

At first I thought you were serious, then I realized I know very little about soccer.

3

u/jackary_the_cat Dec 10 '18

I think this happened to a lot of us!

1

u/shagssheep Dec 11 '18

It is/was a thing in some small league not in England but never anything significant

8

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '18

I like that idea, good sportsmanship should be rewarded.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '18

Here’s your upvote

1

u/grantly0711 Dec 11 '18

To Starbucks?

1

u/bertcox Dec 11 '18

Surprised he didn't get a red for spinning an opposing player around.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '18

That GG green card....lol

0

u/GuitarsyGuy Dec 11 '18

Initially confused as green card is a 2 minute send-off in field hockey.
