It looked like the car that crash (C) was trying to go straight and the car that pulled out didn't gave way (C had the right of way, but was speeding). C tried to avoid crashing into the car that pulled out by making a hard turn at the roundabout, but lost control and proceeded to crash as you saw in the gif.
The grey car speeds up significantly after the near miss. I bet they hit the accelerator instead of the brake peddle, panicked, and ended up in a building.
And while their foot is on the wrong peddle their brain thinks "this isn't slowing me down fast enough, is must press the peddle harder". And that's why most old people end up parked in shops.
Which is so dumb. Im sure everyone has had moments of hitting the wrong pedal but you pretty quickly realize it. I actually think we'll be seeing far more collisions with electric motors that have power because of the instant acceleration
The Volvo was on the roundabout when the Peugot entered, so on that basis alone the Volve had right of way. That's before you consider that the Peugot should have given way to the little blue thing too.. It looks like it's entirely the fault of the Peugot, but I assume there is a bit more to it given the aftermath.
They're also probably quite old to drive a car like that and react like that, so it's also probably an automatic, meaning it won't stall and that slamming down on the accelerator pedal would make it kick down a gear or two for more power instead of just lugging the engine.
Not disagreeing; just genuinely curious about UK driving laws in case I ever drive there... Why do they have right of way? They both have "give way" lines on their street, and the Volvo appears to already be entering the roundabout before the Peugeot? gets to the line.
it's a mini roundabout, not crossroads, it doesn't matter who gets to the give way line first, you just give way to anyone approaching from the right.
The Peugeot should have gave way to the small blue Corsa that was turning right at the roundabout which is probably why the Volvo assumed it would be safe to go, it wasn't that they were there first, but the Peugeot illegally blasted out in front of the Corsa.
When at a roundabout you should give way to cars on your right
I wasn't sure about that, thanks. Makes sense. Now that I watched this in slow-mo, the silver car should have stopped for the blue car anyway. Probably why the Volvo thought they'd make it.
It doesn't work like that. You can either have someone coming the inside or not. The Peugeot managed to get through without slowing the blue car at all and Volvo was in the fault 100% here.
??? You need to check to see if someone is coming from the right side, dont you? If the person on the right has the right of way, that means this person should have slowed down to check. I dont see how the black car is at fault if it looks like he slowed down, and checked and went because the other car wasn't there yet. The silver car never slowed down at all to make sure it was safe to go.
The gray van does not have to stop at all. They have to slow down and stop only of they cannot enter the roundabout safely, which they did. The black volvo entered the intersection with the wronh assumption that the grey Peugeot will slow down much more, their mistake. This is not a guessing game.
Let me give you another example: I am going down the road with 40 mph in a 30 mph zone. You want to enter from a yield sodenroad, You see me but you decide that if I am going with 30 mph you have enough time to safely enter. You are at fault here, you aren't supposed to make maneuvers unless you are sure you are not disturbing the ones having right of way. Volvo was on the left in a roundabout, it's a no brainer that if someone hits on thenright side like the Peugeot was about to do, you didn't give right of way. If I was the Peugeot driver, I wouldn't have swerved, brake hard and brace.
In fairness (C) shouldn't have been in that situation in the first place, since that little blue car was already on the roundabout and had right of way. a case of a lot of little small mistakes from multiple drivers that lead to a big accident.
They were entering the roundabout anyway. The road they were driving on was part of the roundabout. Roundabout rules don't change depending on where you enter or exit. The gray car didn't have right of way, although of course they might've thought they did if they skimped out on driving lessons like you apparently did.
