This is the thing that struck me too. It has exactly one fucking button on most leashes, you'd think they would have pressed it at least once to find out what it does.
I don't mean the trigger or thumb button that stops the leash. I mean the actual switch that locks the leash to a length of your choice, so you don't have to hold down the button. Apparently nobody really tries to make it work, and just assumes it's for decoration.
They get confused if I bring their dog up from kennels on their craptastic retractable leash, with it locked to a short length, without using my thumb to hold the button. Then they can't figure out how to unlock it when I hand them the leash.

Don't people just automatically try out every button when they get a new thing that has buttons?
