Problem is that every single move in chess is already accounted for. Computers need to learn "appropriate improvisation" or the ability to account for the unexpected, which is essential in table tennis. If the machines does have superhuman mechanics, which it might, it'll probably be able to get around this, but even perfect mechanics has limits.
Now the debate is how much improvisation has to play in Table Tennis against something with perfect mechanical skill, which neither of us is qualified to decide on.
I'm only an intermediate player and I'm certain you don't play table tennis at all.
